I suppose my husband must pay attention to SOME things I talk about...he surprised me today with this little gem...and tomorrow I get to go pick up my treadle from Tomilu on the board!

I need to find out her age and if I can find a manual for her, I have NEVER dealt with bobbins like this before!

Talk about FUN.....I am really happy!

Don't you just love it when they get you something you may
of hinted about wanting? That is great of him.

GreatStarter 08-26-2011 06:24 PM

Sounds like he is a keeper! Happy Anniversary to you both! Enjoy her, a hand crank machine is the one machine I would love to have (other than owning my own long arm machine).

I had my grandmother's machine which looked just like yours. I remember her sewing with it. Unfortunately, I sold it for $10 long before I found the Quilting Board. I am very unhappy that I sold it.

DogHouseMom 08-26-2011 06:38 PM

That is one of the prettiest machines I have ever seen. Congratulations on your new machine and of course the anniversary.

Now I'm off to give my husband some not so subtle hints.

jrharry 08-26-2011 07:13 PM

Very nice. Happy Anniversary!

jaciqltznok 08-26-2011 07:42 PM

here is something neat...back in '05 when we moved here, there was an estate sale a couple blocks over. It was the sale of the SINGER man..he did service and sales here for over 50 years!!!
I do not know why, but I bought a couple of those tool chest things with all the little drawers, full of parts to vintage machines...

tonight I got the box out that now houses those parts and in the mess was one lone key...I took it out and walked over to "Betsy" and guess what...it worked...now her case can lock..yay.....and I have 4 more bullet shuttles and a about 30+ bobbin spindles for her....how cool it that???

now if I could just get a manual so I can learn how to thread her..hehehe

Painiacs 08-26-2011 08:00 PM

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! Your husband picks out great gifts.

I have 1 of these machines - can't remember how old it is now. Have to admit I've not done much with it except admire it. It was sort of a gift from my dh. He went hunting for a few days and when he came home, he handed me a wad of money he'd won playing cards. I put it aside for later and next time we were at the flea market, I happened to find this machine and bought it with the winnings.

he is retired coast guard and I found the most wonderful gift at an estate sale of antiques. It is a Boat Lantern...used for signaling! He was like kid with it last night...put oil in it and played with it, showing me signals from outside when it got dark...such a kid...

Happy Anniversary to you and your husband. There is a yahoo site on vintage Singer machines that you should join. There is alot of information on how to clean and make it shine also lots of helpful hints on how to fix problems. Have fun with your new machine.

Julia 08-27-2011 06:35 AM

Happy Anniversary. Luck you. Can I borrow him for a while, when you go on retreat? LOL. Have been trying to find a treadle but no luck yet. Have a great day and enjoy another great year.

Shelbie 08-27-2011 06:43 AM

Our 35th Anniversary is tomorrow and I wish my DH would buy me a vintage machine. We have a big tractor parade protest in our community tomorrow so I guess it is potluck supper for us after the finish. I did overhear my DD talking about a special cake!

Wanabee Quiltin 08-27-2011 06:55 AM

Happy Anniversary to you. I have one just like yours, and it was a $10 anniversary present to me. I told my husband that I wanted to just bum around in this large antique shop and there it was sitting quietly on the floor in a corner. You will love it.

GramaLaura 08-27-2011 07:47 AM

Happy Anniversary!!! Enjoy your new machine :-D

tomilu 08-27-2011 07:50 AM

Happy Anniversary. What a nice surprise.

MargeD 08-27-2011 09:43 AM

Happy anniversary and I think you are a lucky woman to have such a thoughtful husband. I've mentioned things I would like for years and he never gets it, and after 42 years plus he probably never will.

karate lady 08-27-2011 11:43 AM

play with it and I am sure you will figure it all out.

dreamboat 08-27-2011 12:12 PM

Happy anniversary. Have you got your machine yet.
My boyfriend/companion for 28 years bought me a 15-91 in cabinet in 2006 for $10 and just this last summer he bought me a singer 99k with carrying case for $70. So I guess I will keep him. I also have a singer 66 treadle that I paid a dollar for on ebay in 2004. Looks like my collection is getting bigger.
