Has anyone else been watching that Craft Wars show?

I was so excited to learn that this show was coming on the air... finally a show about crafters! Something with so much promise. I was looking forward to seeing the crafters/artists given a bunch of supplies and using them in unusual ways, making (hopefully) beautiful things.

Well, I've watched for three episodes now, and I'm giving up. The challenges are SO stupid. The stuff they are making is beyond horrid and ugly. The judges are so over-the-top and their comments are so scripted (it's obvious to me that somebody is actually behind the scenes writing the lines they are saying in their critiques, which are supposedly off-the-cuff). They blast the crafters for using glue guns and glitter ... then in the next challenge, they ask why they did not use glue guns and glitter! Are you kidding me?!

Like I said, this show could have been GREAT and I'm very disappointed in how it's being handled. Just my humble opinion, of course!

nygal 07-18-2012 09:34 AM

I watched one episode and it isn't for me. I pass on this show.

Hilarious!!! yes, when I saw this show for the first time...I thought..hmmmmm...this is really the lamest show on TV today. Ive been a crafter forever and I think this is the most ridiculous thing Ive seen. So cheezy.

Same here. I don't even think I lasted the whole episode. It's pathetic!

nativetexan 07-18-2012 01:33 PM

nope, didn't appeal to me.

AFQSinc 07-18-2012 01:59 PM

I finally got a chance to see it. I watched half of an episode the first time, a portion of a second episode and then a full complete third episode. I didn't like it at all. I didn't think the challenges (or at least the ones that I saw) were realistic. On the full episode that I watched the final challenge was the crafters had to make a playhouse out of school supplies. The comments seemed canned yet totally random,( i.e., not consistently reviewing each component of each project in the same manner), at the same time. I don't see the show lasting very long.

suern3 07-18-2012 02:25 PM

I don't even like the adds for that craft show. And I am really tired of everything having to be a competition like so many of the cooking shows now. Who really cares have fast someone can cook ingredients that no one has heard of or would really want to eat. Apparently there is too much TV air time available. Thanks for bringing this up and letting me vent. I'm not usually such a crab:)

Boy, you said it. Too many channels and too much time. And the "reality" shows are cheap to produce. And it shows.

Susanna10 07-18-2012 03:35 PM

Started watching one show and changed channel. Stupid

AuntieD 07-18-2012 05:22 PM

I couldn't keep watching after the first few minutes. Too bad cause it had the potential to be interesting. But then I don't like the cooking shows where the food to be cooked is off the hook and the judges can be just plain mean.

QuiltnLady1 07-18-2012 05:29 PM

I watched about half of the firs and have seen the end of the third one -- the challenges are really crazy and the results looked to be awful. What a waste of time. I had high hopes but I guess being outrageous with awful judged is suppose to be great.

Scakes 07-19-2012 03:24 AM

I watched 1 show or at least kept the tv on for the show. I thought it got boring very quickly - not enough crafting and too much talking, griping, whining, etc. I had planned on giving it 1 more try but just don't seem to have the slightest inclination to do so. I'd rather look at the internet, or a book or magazine and get some usable ideas.

ljptexas 07-19-2012 03:44 AM

I was excited too that there finally was a show for crafters but after viewing a little, off it went. I agree with everyone! It was kind of stupid. The results were horrible. True crafters (like us) would never create such monsters. Didn't like it at all. I miss the quilting shows that used to be on tv (the Carol Duvall Show & others), a real craft show. All I get now (Sat am) is Sewing with Nancy & 1 more.

I second this motion.

oleganny 07-19-2012 04:18 AM

I, too, was excited when I first heard about this show - then saw a trailer of it, & read the synopsis on the guide & passed - lol. I do like some of the cooking shows, though. There are a lot of things we would never eat, but sometimes we do get ideas on new ways to prepare things we like, & techniques we can use.
about once a month we try to fix something new - either new ingredient or new preparation method.

While I was flipping channels, I ran across it. It was in the middle of an episode, so I was kind of lost for a minute. I watched for a couple of minutes, then by eyes crossed and I was done. BORING! I agree that the challenges are stupid and no real skills are shown. It reminds me of a VBS project ( not putting down VBS, I love it, even now) but materials and projects for young kids (with supervision). Maybe some good ideas for someone teaching art to elementary age students or home school.

Edie 07-19-2012 05:10 AM

Actually, I think it is an absolute insult to my intelligence!!!!!! Edie

JANICE E. 07-19-2012 05:30 AM

saw part of the show and didn't like it., turned it off

Caswews 07-19-2012 05:31 AM

watched about 15 minutes of it and changed it to the History channel . LOL

marymay 07-19-2012 05:42 AM

I did watch the 1st show. Are you kidding me. I don't feel this is crafty at all Just a HOT MESS

kydeb 07-19-2012 06:46 AM

I watched one episode - not my crafting style for sure!!!

Scissor Queen 07-19-2012 08:36 AM

It's a contest show. It's not an instructional show. If you don't like contest shows with crazy ingredients/materials and crazier challenges you're not likely to like Craft Wars either. Personally I think it's kind of fun. It's not going on my regular schedule but if there's nothing else on I'll watch it.

wraez 07-19-2012 08:40 AM

I saw that the show was going to be on and read what it was about and right away I figured it wasn't going to be a good show so I have not watched one episode. Sorry to hear that my prediction was accurate. I would rather hear what a great show it is ... bad reviews contribute to 'crafts' being hokey, silly, stupid, waste of time etc. Too bad.

k9dancer 07-19-2012 08:43 AM

I agree, it's not very good. Since when does everything have to be about speed? Whatever happened to quality?

Latrinka 07-19-2012 09:05 AM

Never heard of it, but it doesn't sound like I've missed nuttin!

Dakota Girl 07-19-2012 09:43 AM

I was also very turned off by the whole show.....very stupid

kyquiltlover1942 07-19-2012 10:33 AM

I agree, it could have been a great show. I thought I would learn some new tricks and get a few ideas. After watching the first two episodes, I felt I could learn more form my Brownie troop 45 years ago.

Juliebelle 07-19-2012 01:04 PM

I also only watched one show, the host is terrible and the judges make me want to reach out and shake them. Not my cup of tea.

Pat G 07-19-2012 02:31 PM

I didn't get beyond the first 10 min. of the first show & I'd seen enough. I think they're getting desperate for "reality" shows.

And those "Housewives---" shows are so demeaning to women. All of those women with their fake hair, plastic faces, spray tans, drinking, fighting, & screaming at ea. other. They supposedly hate ea. other yet they're always at parties with ea. other. How stupid is that !!!

Pat Grant 07-19-2012 03:45 PM

I even went so far as to tape the shows! I watched two of them and called it quits! Mentality of a 5th grader!!

CraftyCricket 07-19-2012 05:29 PM

I watched about 5 minutes and said " Yup, theres got to be something better on" and changed the channel.

quiltingcandy 07-19-2012 05:38 PM

When I first heard about it I set the DVR to record it. Then I read what it was and thought I didn't have time for such silliness. It reminded me of an episode of "Mama's Family" with Vickie Lawrence and her friend would do "crafts" and give them to various people and the one item being mad from dryer lint. This new show seems to be along that line. Find something bizarre to use and give it away.

Lyncat 07-19-2012 07:57 PM

I was excited about it and then sooooooooo disappointed. Hahaha, quiltingcandy. You nailed it!

Krystyna 07-20-2012 03:00 AM

I don't think I made it through the first episode before turning it off. Very disappointing.

Geri B 07-20-2012 06:18 AM

yes that show is all of the above mentioned comments..........and on top of the stupidity of this show, the moderator--Tori Spelling(?) really needs to do something with her horrible hairdo and bright red lipstick.........yuck!!!!!!
I too thought this would be something like the "old" craft show with Carol ------, but should have realized everyone is interested in canned phony "reality" programs now........back to Masterpiece Theatre or the History Channel.....

DonnaC 07-20-2012 06:34 AM

Wouldn't it be great if the producers of this show read message boards like ours? Maybe they would get some real, decent ideas for making the show better.... nope, not gonna happen!!

annasgirl 07-20-2012 06:35 AM

The show disappointed me, too. The crafting seems so cheesy.....

Scissor Queen 07-20-2012 06:49 AM

You all seem to be missing the key word in the name of this show. It's Craft *WARS*. It's not supposed to be even slightly instructional. Every watch Cupcake WARS. Yeah, they don't teach you how to make cupcakes either.

raynhamquilter 07-20-2012 08:10 AM

Tuned in, watched for a few min. and turned off. Stupid in my opinion.
