I have made lots of Roman blinds (shades). Here in England you can get a heading kit but I just do as OP have stated. They are not at all difficult and IMO make a lovely dressing for a window.

Saw something similar at the quilt show in Phoenix. They had a roll-up flannel display board but it was pretty expensive. Thinking of trying to make one like it for my sewing room. It could roll down over my closet doors and roll up when not in use. What do you think?

I have made several. I used instructions off of the internet and I must say they came out good. Not hard to make. Just take your time and make sure you measure many times before actually cutting or sewing. If you sew, you can do it.

I made some for my old drafty house. I used insulating fabric (from The Warm Company, I think) between the front and back fabrics. Instructions were given to sew magnetic strips between the folds. Then long magnetic strips were put on the window casings. The shade was held tight to the casing to prevent cold air leaks. They made a huge difference in the warmth of the room.
