Is it possible to roast a whole chicken (with dressing) in a crockpot. I've never seen whole chicken for $.88 per pound & they are on special this week. No oven in my RV so need to use crockpot. LOL. Is this do-able.

Food.com says you can - I've never tried it though.

I think so. If your CP is big enough to hold it. I cook large pieces of chicken in mine all the time. I don't see a lot of difference in that and in a roaster in the oven when you put the dressing inside.

I do it, no problem. Just have to make sure the chicken fits!

I've done a whole chicken in my crockpot, but not with dressing inside. I found that when the chicken is done, there's a lot of chicken fat in the bottom of the crockpot. Because of that, I'd do my stuffing separately. But you have nothing to lose by trying!

I make ziti in the crockpot for family get togethers. Reserves my oven for other things on busy days...like home made bread!

I do it! I cook as many things as possible in a crock pot, so I don't have to watch as closely as other types of cooking.

I was wondering the same thing recently and don`t remember where I saw or read this but make small balls out of tin foil to put in the bottom so the chichen sits on top out of all the juice{fat}

I roast whole chickens all the time. Depending on the size of your crock, put an alumium pie plate upside down, or crumpled aluminum foil, in the bottom. This will lift the chicken up & keep it from "stewing" in the juices.

I read somewhere that it is advised not to stuff a chicken in the crockpot because it won't reach a high enough internal temperature to kill the bacteria. I wouldn't want that sitting in there all that time (8 hours?) I do chicken breasts and pork ribs in the crock pot but not sure I would want to do a whole chicken, maybe cut up.

The difference is that the oven is at a steady temp of 350 degrees and a crockpot is a slow warm up over several hours.
