My new daughter-in-law is Japanese and we just got back from the wedding (in Hawaii) Hubby and I both want to learn. Thanks for the post! :)
She reads and writes English well but doesn't speak it much. She and my son talk to each other in Japanese! He picked it up from living there.

I can't wait till I get there! But I really want to bolster my reading before going... plus it will help with my classes that I'm taking here and then when I take it there!

Reading Japanese will be tough since there are over 2000 characters. The kids learn several a day starting in first grade! Kanji are a little easier as they represent sounds but are not used exclusively.

As for spanish try google and look up spanish language.

The thing with the Japanese, is that I start to learn learn come June 6th... when classes start for the summer... I'll be learning several at a time, and I'm okay with that...

I know how to read Spanish, not well... but enough to get by in Spanish, I'm trying to learn more so that I don't feel like I'm struggling when I'm not. It's a weird situation there.

There are a lot of free anguage sites on the internet too that having reading components. Some are fictions and others are current news items. If you look in the first few pages of a Spanish text book, you may find it has a companion site.

Also, Google learning Spanish, free lessons, reading Spanish beginner etc.


Personally I prefer reading books, but the internet can give you a greater variety of options.
