I haven't a clue but let us know what you fine out. It looks to me like some kind of squash. I would cut it in 1/2 scoop out the seeds put butter and brown sugar in the hollowed part and bake it like you would acorn squash.

If not picked will it get bigger? I believe it's a golden honeydew melon. I bought one at Walmart. Only bigger. It was 3.98$. Tell him to let them get bigger. They are delicious. Can we see one cut in half?

Is it a lemon cucumber? It could be a cross, these things seem to cross easily, depending on what pollen is swept in with the wind.
Lots of things like this have been cultivated just for fun, and one day a piece of pollen comes in and makes a brand new, fabulous tasting new fruit or veggie, and you can sell it to a nursery or sell the fruit yourself. Or most of the time you simply get a pretty thingey. Might be worth while hanging it up in a cool shady place and seeing what it looks and sounds like when dry. Might be a gourd or one parent might be one. Do like the experts and check out the leaves and stems. In fact, if you take it to show the county guy, take part of the plant with you. That will make it much easier to identify. |
It is a melon of some sort. I tried to grow some cantalope, Ambrosia I think was the variety, that were about that size and looked a lot like that. Had very little taste and didn't do too well.

I'm leaning towards some type of yellow melon. It is ripe, so they probably don't get bigger and all of the 3 are this same size. I cut it in half...picture below..
It does act like a cantaleoupe when cut..the meat is somewhat soft, but not mushy. It smells stronger of cantaloupe and then..the taste..well, to me it is tart. DH says really tart and he didn't like it. I thought it was kind of good, but it does make you pucker! :lol: The closest thing I saw was the melonamarillo..but when I did a further search on google..I got an image of a girl with...well...melons. (Not a good idea for searching when kids are present if ya' know what I mean..:roll:) |
