Any time I have a question about something being a scam that comes from what looks like a reputable source I go to their website and see if I can complete the action that they are requesting from there. I never click on a link posted in the email. Also, if you have questions about the authenticity of the email forward via online website to the security/fraud section and inquire if it is from them or not. Ann in TN

I would say SCAM big time don't answer

sandpat 06-20-2011 06:16 AM

SCAM>>>SCAM>>>>SCAM>>>>> Hope you didn't reply!

Owllady 06-20-2011 06:36 AM

Always type in the address you want to go to and make sure it is for the one you want. Never go straight from your email account. This is a pain, but that is what the scammers and frauds do to honest people.

SewExtremeSeams 06-20-2011 06:51 AM

I have a free hotmail account. It's a scam. Delete it. Your program should have put it automatically in the 'junk' folder. :-D

mile hi quilter 06-20-2011 06:57 AM

SewExtreme, I thought the same thing.. I was wondering why it went to my inbox??

Sneed 06-20-2011 07:09 AM

SCAM, and I thank you for putting this post out for others to see and read and become aware.

pbreon 06-20-2011 07:14 AM

HOE YOU REPORTED IT TO THE HOTMAIL !!!!!!

pignwdw 06-20-2011 07:15 AM

I had two of these same messages about my yahoo account when I logged on this morning. I marked them as spam and deleted.

Not sure why it went to your inbox. However, IMHO, I think scammers:

1. can't find a better use for their thinking skills
2. keep inventing ways to trick trusting people

:-D

PS: Hotmail verifies active accounts by you opening your account up at least once a month. It could be a longer period of time but it is definitely connected to you simply opening your account and at least looking at it. Hope this helps! :-D

IdahoSandy 06-20-2011 07:57 AM

It is a scam so don't buy into this. I have gotten this one before and forwarded it to the server with a note. They e-mailed me back saying they would never do this and thanking me for letting them know.

DELETE! DELETE! DELETE! Scam with a capital "S"..never give your social security number or password for sure! Most places will call rather than e-mail. Do NOT reply to the msg.

pkelly1947 06-20-2011 08:21 AM

I've received this several times & it is a scam. Hotmail had me forward the info to them so they could trace it. Since then I haven't received any more.

debbieoh 06-20-2011 08:55 AM

SPAM BIG TIME

lillybeck 06-20-2011 09:04 AM

I got this same email a few months ago. I deleted it and am still using my free msn account.

valsma 06-20-2011 09:07 AM

Do NOT reply or answer this email. If you can contact the company by phone from your end, do. This is a scam. Companys will not ask this information from you.
Bad email. Scam, phishing. There is a new one I heard about the other night, it is a phishing scam but they called it something else.

klgreene 06-20-2011 09:08 AM

Have you been using your Hotmail....I have hotmail and I didn't get that email.....don't give them your information, it's a scam...

BARES 06-20-2011 10:21 AM

Here is the MSN Windows Live link. This is directly to the HOTMAIL safety and information area. Click here and look around. There is probably a place to report (send the email) what you got. Hope it helps.

grannypat7925 06-20-2011 11:33 AM

DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS! This is not how those places operate!

auntiehenno 06-20-2011 01:17 PM

SCAM

gerswin 06-20-2011 01:21 PM

Do Not reply. no legitimate email from a free email source would ask for that kind of info. really doubt you would loose your account if you don't subscribe, but i have seen where a persons account was taken over by an illegitimate source and used to send spam. led to many difficulties. instead contact hotmail directly rather than respond to email also let them know that you received this and who sent if the info is included. good luck. :?:

flowergrand 06-20-2011 02:17 PM

I have returned several of these to hotmail to see if they are valid. They are not from a current or valid email address and are to always be ignored.

linda701 06-20-2011 02:27 PM

Thats a scam no doubt.

scrappylady 06-20-2011 03:17 PM

Yes I got that one about 6 months ago and did not do a thing about it. My thought was If "they" contacted me then "they" must know my account is active and if "they" would just look at all the activity that goes on with my account "they" would not be sending be this "letter". I believe I sent it to the scam link on Hotmail, too.
So many dishonest people out there anymore. :-(

Carron 06-20-2011 03:19 PM

Don't do it!!!!!!!

mile hi quilter 06-20-2011 03:34 PM

Thank you all so much for your input, well its been 24 hrs. and my hotmail is alive and well,LOL and I did report it, and changed my password..... have a great evening..

mimee4 06-20-2011 03:57 PM

I checked snopes.com, too. Yup, it's a scam!!

annpryor 06-20-2011 04:17 PM

I would not give them any information.

GiGi 06-20-2011 05:12 PM

Reputable companies do not send stuff like this out! Delete it. GG

Lady Diana 06-20-2011 05:26 PM

linmid 06-20-2011 06:16 PM

This is definitely a scam they would never ask all those questions. Don't don't don't answer, download any attachments or anything else with personally calling your server to find out about this.

pjnesler 06-20-2011 06:37 PM

Bad Bad Bad, why do people do this? When I've gotten this sort of stuff, I've forwarded it to the appropriate site, pay pal or whoever, so they know someone is pulling a scam. They need to be aware somthing is going on.

milikaa1 06-20-2011 06:45 PM

Scam! They never send emails, first clue is "Dear Acct holder", they would know your name, once you give them your info they steal your identity........also, look for misspelled words and errors and different language. I got a few last month and sent it in for phishing scam.

nightquilter 06-20-2011 07:50 PM

SCAM. all hotmails account holders did not get this.

DonnaB 06-21-2011 03:55 PM

Definitely a SCAM!, delete it, and go thru your regular email addy.

nwm50 06-22-2011 10:08 AM

DOB/country question....raises the hair on my neck!

irenecarter 06-27-2011 09:04 PM
