How can I fix this?

My GD's hat got ruined and I need some ideas on how to fix it. (It's got sentimental value or I wouldn't bother). Thanks in advance.

If you have the same yarn, open up the stitched seam and rip the knitting back to before the hole. Then pick up the stitches and re-knit with new yarn. Do the same on the other part that is also involved in the hole. It will take a while, but it you are a proficient knitter you can do it.

Go to a local yarn shop and ask for help. Put a decal or some decoration (a knit flower, etc.) on it. Depends on the location of the hole.

I can't knitt so my inclination would be to hit all the edges with fray check and cover it with a cute patch sewn over it.

yes if you can't fix it yourself completely, I would add a flower to that area.

fray check and a cute patch, broach, or flower would probably work. May I suggest using a needle and thread to catch each loose loop and pulling the hole together before the fray check so there will be no further runs.

My thoughts too! There are some really cute crochet flower patterns on the internet or I am sure that you could purchase one. Just sew a matching piece of fabric to the inside of the hat and then sew a really pretty flower on the outside. This is the style today. I receive many ideas for girls hats and most have a large flower on them. Good luck!

Great advice!

I have repaired holes (not as big) but get yarn as close as possible and a yarn needle. Then darn as you would for a hole in socks. By picking up the loose rows and weaving in the yarn it will keep it from running. Then fill in side to side. If you don't like the finished look then you can place a fabric or store bought designed patch over the area. This way no knitting required.

I like the idea of the fray check and closing the hole as much as possible. I think a felted flower or two would really add interest.
