What were the circumstances of your first meeting? Was it by chance or planned?

I met my Jim on a blind date. My mother knew a lady who thought that we might become friends because we shared some of the same interests. He called me one night and we talked for over an hour. The date was set up and I went to his house one evening. There a long conversation and then we went out to dinner, after which we came back to his house and talked some more. This first date was on April 30, 1993 and two months later we were already talking marriage. We got married on May 6th, 1995.

We met at a church social evening. My Mom's husband spotted the new visitor and introduced us. We married 1 year later and have been best friends ever since. We will celebrate our 28th anniversary in September. We have 2 boys aged 21 & 16 and 3 Golden Retrievers.

Edie 04-14-2010 01:19 PM

I met my Roger through my now sister-in-law. I fell in love with him the minute I saw him and within three months he asked me to marry him and I accepted (March 18, 1960) and we were married in the Little Brown Church in the Vale on June 11, 1960. Boy talk about for better or worse, richer or poorer, in sickness and in health - we made it. We will be renewing our vows on June 11, 2010, celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. Whoo-Hoo !!!!!!!!! We have a son, three grandchildren and the ever popular Bess, our avatar!!!!!! Edie

High school sweethearts. We will be married 39 years this July (which is so hard to believe, considering we're not even that old!) We have a 36 year old daughter and 34 year old son and one beautiful 4 month old granddaughter (from our son and his wife). My husband is my best friend and supporter!

Granna of 5 04-14-2010 01:35 PM

My husband has been my boyfriend since 4th grade. I tell everyone that I chased him until he caught me. We dated through out high school and when we went to college in different towns it almost killed us. So we got married very young and have been married 43 years this July. He is my best friend. We have a son who is 37 married w/2 children,
a daughter 34/married 3 children and a 3rd son 27/getting married on the 22nd of May. God has been good to us.

Darlene 04-14-2010 01:46 PM

Barbm 04-14-2010 02:21 PM

He was my boss. Married 18 years this year, together 26 or 27- I don't remember.... it feels like yesterday. He's my soul mate.

thequilteddove 04-14-2010 02:22 PM

I had moved to VT to be w/a guy I had been having a long distance romance w/for two years. When I got here I joint the VT Nat'l Guard. I was a long distance runner & joined the VTARNG Marathon Team. My hubby, Phil, was on the team but I had no idea he existed.

Years later the guy I came to VT for was long gone out of my life. One day my girl friends & I were working out in the weight room at work bitch'n & moan'n about not being able to meet nice guys. Phil was there work'n out too & for some reason I just walked up to him & asked him where he met women... I had no idea who he was or whether he was married or not. I had no intention when I asked him except to probe the mind of a male.

I'm not sure how long it was go'n on, but one of my female co-workers noticed that he was come'n in to our office a lot... use'n the phone, the copy machine, what ever (he didn't even work in our building) She said he was check'n me out & sniff'n around. I was clueless (no wonder I couldn't find a man, I couldn't even tell when one was interested! lol) One day, on a Friday, he called & asked me out. Of course I said no, maybe some other time... I mean really! No way I was go'n to go on a date when I was called on a Friday for a Friday date, no matter how desperate I was lolol We made a date for the following week & I spent the entire week 'research'n who he was'.

Our first date we hit it off really well. The typical talked so much we closed the restaurant down date :-D I was determined I wasn't ever get'n married again. After two years of dating he purposed (St Marcos Square, Venice). By then I knew I wanted to be with him for ever, but was still too scared for marriage. When my daughter was 17/18 we moved in together (she was 13 when we met). We were engage 5yrs when I woke up & realized I was ok w/get'n married. Here we are 10yrs later and he's still able to put up w/me *giggles*

I can't even tell you how many years we were together when someone pointed to a picture on my desk from my marathon days & said to me "Isn't that Phil"? All those years of look'n at that picture & I had never noticed! Just goes to show you, some things are just meant to be :)

Jim's Gem 04-14-2010 02:27 PM

I met my husband at our church youth group. He was this good looking new guy that I just had to meet. We were at a week long event during the summer (this was the first day) and we were playing some kind of takcle football game and I made sure to tackle him!! We hung out the rest of the week and then...... I was too young to date (14)so we mostly hung out at church events and then had to find friends to double date with us. By the time I turned 16 and was allowed to "date" he went away to college. That didn't stop us!
We were high school sweethearts, dated 5 years before I married him at age 19, he is 2 years older.

LBryan13790 04-14-2010 02:31 PM

My landlord was lamenting how all the single girls sat on one side of the church and the single boys on the other, so we started a single's Sunday School Class.

Let's just say the class folded a year later because there were no more singles left!! (That was 16 anniversaries ago.)

amandasgramma 04-14-2010 02:43 PM

I was widowed in 2001. Went online and met a lotta goofs (that's the nice word for them!!!!) Finally, after talking to him for a month or more (he was 125 miles away), we decided to meet. I had a "feeling". Sure enough, the minute we met, I knew. Took him a month...LOL We dated for 2 yrs and got married in 2005!!! Feels like yesterday, but also feels like we've been together forever! I wouldn't change a minute of this...........:)

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 04-14-2010 02:47 PM

I was the secretary in an Engineering Department. He was the newly hired Engineer from out of state. We knew each other almost a year when we got married. It will be 19 years July 4, 2010

fun2quilt 04-14-2010 02:55 PM

We met on a blind date weekend before easter and got engaged over the 4th and married labor day weekend that same year! This year will be 24. We have a 22 yo daughter and a 20 yo son, no grandbabies, not ready anyway nor are the kids. LOL Seems like everything that year revolved around a holiday!!

MadQuilter 04-14-2010 02:56 PM

I was 15 and babysitting on Base. Of course I was running late. On the way to the apartment, I met a group of people in the stairwell - one of them was a young GI from another base. He claims that he fell in love with me at first sight. (It took me a little longer.) The topic of age never came up but boy was he shocked when he found out that I was jail bait. lol

36+ years later and still in love. I think that is pretty darn good.

Tink's Mom 04-14-2010 03:11 PM

My husband claims that when he saw me across the room at a party, that he told his cousin that "he was going to marry me". I had dated that cousin for a little while...he introduced us and the rest is history....been married 34 years, dated for 3 before that...

JJs 04-14-2010 03:20 PM

IrishNY 04-14-2010 03:49 PM

A friend introduced us the summer after we graduated from HS, started dating the following April and got married 16 months later in August - we were both 20. Spent the first 8 years putting each other through college, had four kids, 2 jobs and then 6 more years of college for me.

The kids are 17-24 and we will celebrate 30 years in August. I am way too young to be married this long!

Pam 04-14-2010 03:54 PM

We were both in the USMC serving Uncle Sam! Next month we will have been married for 30 years. We have 2 kids and no grandkids. I sure hope my kids keep on waiting for babies until they are done with college.

Scissor Queen 04-14-2010 04:09 PM

We met the first time in the tavern where I was the bartender. We met the second time in a bar when I was driving the taxi and hanging out in the bar between fares. We got married in that bar a year and a half later. It was 18 years this February.

Honey 04-14-2010 04:10 PM

I was invited to a wedding by a girl that I worked with. She and her sister were friends. The best man was the sisters boy friend. When she introduced us, she said she all but heard the music, so broke it off with him immediatly and told him to go for it. Two days later he asked me to marry him and I tolk him he was crazy!! He was very persistant. That was 40 years ago. We will be married 37 years in September. We have 1 daughter, 3 sons, 5 grandsons and a cocker spaniel.

Jim's Gem 04-14-2010 04:11 PM

I love reading everyone's stories. I didn't say that we will celebrate our 30th next month and have 4 great children ages 21-28. No grands yet, but maybe soon!!!!

FunkyMonkey 04-14-2010 04:33 PM

We met at a bar, he was stationed at an Army base about an hour from the bar. The rest is history.. 15 years later (on april 8th it was 15 years). Seems like just yesterday.

mbunny 04-14-2010 04:33 PM

We met on the shuttle bus at work (yes, nothing says romance like a reconditioned school bus). Dated a year, moved in together, bought a house, got married, eventually had our daughter (age 3) - we've been together 10 years this spring.

sunflower126 04-14-2010 04:34 PM

We met on a blind date set up by mutual friends who were dating. The night we were to go out my friend was grounded by her parents. We went to the drive in anyway. We will be married 44 years in Sept. Renewed our vows on a cruise for 35 years. We have a son 42 and a daughter 40. Our oldest grandson is 17, a girl 13, a girl and boy 10 (cousins) and a girl 7. Don't expect anymore--I feel sad about that but it's too hard to raise a lot of kids today. My daughter always said the children would not outnumber the adults in her family.

Mousie 04-14-2010 04:34 PM

The mouse had been dating different ppl, here and there, trying to heal from a very broken heart...cried a lot from that.
Brothers best friend had a crush for a long time and was like a brother to me, more than anything, but I was lonely so agreed to see a movie or just go riding around.
Kept telling him we are just friends. He wasn't believing it.
My parents were getting ready to go to a Halloween party and asked if I wanted to go.
I said no, but then the friend called. Oh geesh...shy little mouse could go to a big party with all those people, or stay home and keep trying to convince this guy that she wasn't interested that way.
So, off to the party we go.
About 3/4 way through the evening, Mousie spied a good looking guy helping with the kids around the pinata.
Mother was dressed like a "bum" with a jug that had some "recipe" in it and insisted that Mousie have some.
Mousie got just a wee bit tipsy, so she was thinking out loud about the handsome guy.
A friend of the family was standing there and hollered to him, and said "somebody wants to meet you."
Mousie was looking for a mouse hole
But the handsome guy ran track in high school and sprinted on over and put his arm on Mousie's shoulder, and Mousie about died.
She thought she had been liplocked by a total stranger.
No, he just kind of spun her towards him a bit.
(Guess it was that boldness that made Miss Mousie's heart go pitter pat!)
They walked and they talked and after a couple hours, standing under a tree...in plain view of a lot of ppl! but oblivious to all others...the handsome guy planted a light, sweet kiss on Miss Mousie's lips, while someone in the crowd yelled, "woo hoo!"
They saw each other every day for 20 months and got married in June, three weeks after Mousie graduated.
They have 3 beautiful daughters (with hubbies), and 4 beautiful granddaughters: 7,6, 3,2...and two kitties ;)
The wedding was 33 years ago in June :-D .
Miss Mousie married the guy that made her laugh instead of the one that made her cry. What a smart mouse ;)

My sisters boyfriend did not have a car but his "friend" did so they ask me to go out with his friend on a blind date. Unbeknowns to me this friend had seen my picture and wanted a date with me. We had a date every night for three weeks as I was home on leave from college. Before I went back I knew we would be married. Finshed college in 6 months and married two months later. (eloped) that was 53 years ago, four children, 10 grands, and 2 great grands.

I met Melissa on a blind date in 1988. She was a friend of my ex-girlfriend and my ex set us up together (I know, weird).
We started dating and 4 weeks later I asked her to marry me; 2 months later we were married. We'll be married 22 years in June. :D

I'm an internet wife! We met on line, then saw one another in person 2 weeks later. Then 2 weeks later we met again, and eloped that day. I have the most wonderful guy in the WORLD. Six very happy and fun years. My kids adore him, His kids are good with me too. Even my 19 year old cat doesn't remember not having him (he had never had a cat). I lived 700 miles away in Wyoming, but love little rural desert Utah. Yup, it's all perfect.

John and I were just friends in high school, actually I was going out with his brother at the time. He was already done school and had a job traveling all over Canada. We realized we missed each other and the rest is history as they say. He was 24 and I was 18 when we got married. That was almost 39 years ago. We have a daughter 34, a son 31 and two adorable grandchildren. I still love him to bits!!!

Larry and I met in college. A very small college then. We had several classes together. Second year we both ran for student counsel. He was Pres, I was secretary. We dated that summer, were engaged in November, married 2 days after graduation. I now teach at the same college. We will hit 47 yrs. in June. Have lived in the same house 43 yrs too.

Pamela Artman 04-14-2010 05:14 PM

Match.com. He was one of my matches, so I sent a "wink" to him. He responded with a brief note, we started emailing back and forth, met at a restaurant after 3 months and were married 6 months later! We've been married 5 1/2 years.

granniebj 04-14-2010 05:16 PM

My daughter actually introduced us. He lived in the same small town, but we had never met.

Oh, I forgot to tell you, we were both members of agroup called The Rehoboth Minutemen, and dressed up 1776 to get married. AND we were married in a barn. How many people can say that?

My husband and I met June 17th 1972. When I came home from work my roommate told me she had packed the car for a weekend camping trip.

While there, I met my husband. It was definitely love at first sight. We were married August 7 the same year.

This year will be our 38th Anniversary and we are still best friends and very much in love!
