I never read profiles and nothing is in mine, I am a very private person. -- J.

These days it's just not safe or wise to put too much personal info on the internet. That's probably why you don't see more profile info filled in...

DJinSC 03-10-2012 09:42 AM

I didn't know you could! I've been reading this board for several weeks and finally joined. I have just added to my biography after reading several others. I didn't know how much info they wanted. I've got to say, I enjoy the sisterhood I feel with this board. After moving to South Carolina, I really miss my quilt buddies and all the sharing we did. I've already picked up some useful info by reading here. I still have to learn all the features--I'm not very good with computers . . . Not looking forward to trying to post a picture.

So Traveler -- where in Upstate New York? Ever heard of Oswego or Mexico?

Well, I've updated mine now! I don't think there is anything too 'personal' in it that could be used for nefarious purposes - I just hadn't got round to it until you gave me the nudge.

Likewise, I don't normally read other people's profiles. But that may change now. :)

And I was amused to note that my birth year is given as 2011, LOL. I can't figure out how to change it, but feel safe in saying that that is just a leeeetle bit out...

I had fun doing my profile - just go into settings and fool around - be sure to save it.

You summed up your history in an interesting nutshell Bobbielinks. The profiles are nice to have and it is great when you click on one and someone has actually filled it in. It makes the folks on here come to life, so to speak. I'm about half and half on reading the profiles, depending on how much time i have. I do like to check when someone has posted something interesting so i can get a picture of the person behind the words or ideas.

I view often, and also get disappointed when I don't have a chance to get to know that person a little better. Sounds like you and I have much in common. Met my DH my first day as a Freshman (9th grade) high school, married him when I was a Senior, and we're working on 40 years this year.

I look often. It helps me connect with the person. I especially love the avatars

nhnative 03-10-2012 02:54 PM

I usually check out the locations first to see if there are any from NH or Ohio and then I like to pm them.

NatalieMacDonald 03-10-2012 05:50 PM

Good point. I don't know what is on mine but I'm going to jazz it up! I'm getting more comfortable on here and it's time for an update. Thanks.

I look at profiles sometimes, especially if I see a lot of posts by someone and feel a kinship for whatever reason, or she's in Texas, and I'm wondering if we could be neighbors. I can understand that some people prefer to remain more private, however. We have all seen scary stories about people making contact through the Internet for nefarious reasons. If someone posts regularly and seems to have a genuine interest in quilting, that goes a long way toward assuring me that he or she is trustworthy. This site is remarkably well moderated and free of trolls and unpleasant people. I love the way threads are organized and that there is no requirement that we stay exclusively on the topic of quilting. After all, if you were meeting people live in your community to talk about quilts, you'd also get to know them in other ways. You'd ask about their families, etc., and you'd find out what else you might have in common with them. QB is a wonderful community because it's much like that.

I do enjoy reading profiles and seeing avatars. Today I checked out the makers of blocks I got from a swap. But SewBizGirl is so right. Anyone could make up a profile to get in, and could be the next BTK or Ted Bundy, looking for a "mark."

sewwhat85 03-10-2012 07:52 PM

i never look at it not sure why i dont

Rubesgirl 03-10-2012 08:36 PM

I usually look. I'm curious and like to see what others are about. :-)

Momma_K 03-11-2012 05:41 AM

This has to be the most interseting post I've read in a long time! I enjoy reading about others but never thought of anyone reading about me....maybe I need to upgrade my profile!! Thanks for the entertainment ladies...! All of you seem to be so kind to the other. No wonder why I love this place!! Ha! To bad one of my favorite places on earth happens to be in "outter cyber space!" I don't think I made any scense!! Ha! Well now you know a little about me...I'm a nut!

ShiAnnF 03-11-2012 07:28 AM

O.K. all of you readers. I did update my profile. Now you know all about me.
