In a recent thread about what to give as a hostess gift, many of you suggested giving an apron. I l-o-v-e aprons and would not step into the kitchen without one, but I really don't know anyone who wears them except maybe us older folks, so I have hesitated making them for others, in spite of the great patterns that are out there right now. Comments, anyone?

Don't wear them, never have, never will.
Don't need one to sew and I try to avoid cooking.
I'm in my 40's and love my apron. Especially when I'm baking - I get covered in flour etc. And my 6yo ds loves his apron too - he loves to help cook.
I wear one when I have a lot of cooking going on, like I did preparing for yesterday's feastivities! I make one for myself for Christmas too. Sometimes they are just so durn handy to have on.
I used to wear them when I was raising a family and got away from it and don't anymore now. Don't know why I quit.
I love them. I only wear them when I am baking cookies at christmas. I think its a christmas thing I just have to have it on. lol. Also when I am frying anything. I have ruined one to many shirts so I wear the apron. I love making them as gifts. I made my DIL and GD matching ones. Have you seen the tutorial on Missouri quilt co. It is fun and fast to make
I love wearing my aprons!! I have worn one since I was a kid. My grandkids love theirs too. I have different ones for the seasons. My favorite, it an old blue one that my son made for me when he was i junior high.
I think it would be a great hostess gift! |
I wear them if I'm doing some cooking with flour. I love that some 'retro' aprons are coming out at Joann's. I think I'm going to sew one today. I will post a picture when I'm done.
PS - I wear my 1860s one with a bib that needs to be pinned on. |

I always put one on whenever I cook. I love my aprons and of course, I sew them for me and my daughters and friends!
Sometimes. Depends on what I am cooking.
I love to use aprons. I really need to sew myself a few more, and a few for friends and family!
Used to wear them...don't know why I quit
When I put an apron on I feel like I'm continuing the tradition of my Grandmother Wilson's. She always wore an apron except when she walked to town to pick up her mail or something... She was a wonderful role model for me, and I miss her...

I love my aprons. I make them for my dd and sisters too. Haven't seemed to find time to make one for myself lately so the next one is mine. Can never have too many. :)
I used to but not anymore.
When I was raising my family I always wore one. Now I avoid going into the kitchen (husband does most cooking). My daughter loves aprons, so I enjoy making them for her.
I haven't for a while! I only have one...a white butchers apron. I used to wear it when I was frying or canning or doing messy jobs. I guess I need to get it back out and use it!
Thanks for reminding me! Maybe I will whip up a new one. :D :D |
I wear a half-apron over my chest.
It's a great source of amusement for my family. It does help keep my shirt front clean. |
When I remember to put one on. :)
Aprons are back in style. I love them.
I have 4 signs in my kitchen:
"I serve 3 kinds of meals:frozen, microwave, take out" "Martha Stewart doesn't live here...deal with it" "The only reason I have a kitchen is because it came with the house" "The best thing I make is 'Reservations' For these reasons, nope, I don't really need an apron.   Naomi |
I love aprons and have several from my MIL & grandmother.
All my neices cook and If I made them aprons I think they would love them and use them. Cause I made them....maybe |
I wear one when cooking...I am a pretty messy cook, and would rather wear an apron than have clothes with spots on them. I have an apron a friend made for me, and I have also appliqued on purchased aprons.
I usually only wear one when i cook Thanksgiving dinner, and now i dont' do that anymore. I need to make myself a few, i have ruined some tops.
I wear them most times. Have ruined to many clothes and learned my lesson. They have made a big comeback and a lot of younger women are wearing them now. They've become a sort of "kitchen fashion statement"!

http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-98393-1.htm Would be lovely to send along with an apron or pattern! |
I am 54...and I ALWAYS wear an apron...even when I am wearing jeans and a tee-shirt and most definitely when I am dressed in my school clothes between a day in the classroom and an evening meeting! My DD who is 23 loves the aprons I have made her (even though she said her apt-mates would tease her). A couple years ago, at Xmas, I gave aprons to my DIL, 2 nieces, a sis-in-law, and to my asst at school. Everybody loves them and still mention them to me. There are a bunch of cute apron patterns...the one I made them was kind of an assymetrical thing with one side longer than the other. Very contemporary looking.
I love aprons. I have always worn them for cooking. I now have a craft apron that I wear, it just makes life easier. They are coming back into style and use.
just hung mine up as I am done cooking for the day. I only wear it when I have nicer clothing on. Most of the time I'm in an old t-stirt with jeans and don't care. Today I am wear a pretty summer dress.
I wear an apron, but only the long kind. I don't understand the ones that are only like a skirt and only cover below the waist...I am always getting splattered on the upper half. :)
I wear one almost all the time I am in the kitchen. love making them!

I wear one sometimes, like when canning and baking.
I always wear an apron when cooking or cleaning the kitchen.
my youngest, not quite 30, wears them all the time! she loves the ones that have the most coverage--the ones i see as bar-be-que types, or coverup types. she dresses "pretty" every day, and when time comes to cook, or when company comes over, she tosses on an apron over her duds. (it must be her personal rebellion--raised by a t-shirt and blue jeans type, and she dresses to the nines every day, and is most often seen in heels. she certainly is a cutie, and puts her old mom to shame!)

Hi fellow oregonian. I live up HWY 58. We just camped at Cresent lake and I wore an apron while cooking. I wear one almost 99% of the time. Then if you leave it on while you eat, it does double duty:)
I wear mine working outside. It gets a lot of dirt my clothes would normally get. My grandmother was never without one, used it for carrying in the eggs, the berries, the apples, pears and walnuts and even the wood. Plus they have pockets and I can't live without pockets.
