I live in Dallas and I have to wear a hairpiece as my hair is so thin and fine that in places it doesn't even look like I have hair. I just get my hair cut when it startes showing under my hair piece. Can you believe that I went to ths so called expert to trim my hair and color it and it cost me 200 dollars. That was the end of that now I go to cut and curl shop near my homw and she does a wonderful job and it just 12 dollars, I only have maybe six strands of hair to cut.at 200 dollars that 33 dollars a strand.

stinson5043 05-10-2011 05:28 AM

Mine are free.My wonderful daughter in law does a great job.I just call and she comes to my house with the grand kids.sometimes I call for my hair to be done so we can also spend time with them.Life is good. :)

Mona Marie 05-10-2011 05:32 AM

I cut my own.

frauhahn 05-10-2011 05:34 AM

I once paid $45 for a cut-she did what she wanted, in spite of the fact that I told her what I wanted-it looked good when I walked out of the shop, but I had no tallent for keeping it looking that way. And a month later it was a total train-wreck! I always go to the same person now-she charges about $14. I'm pleased with the look, it is easy to care for, and grows out pretty evenly so that I don't have to rush in once a month.

redkimba 05-10-2011 05:42 AM

How much you pay for a haircut depends on what you want done to it. I just had mine done on Sunday - first time in at least a year.

I had him just part my hair in the middle & trim/cut 5 inches off. No washing (I had washed it prior to coming in & it was still wet); no blow drying or styling. He did a great job & it cost only $15.

charity-crafter 05-10-2011 05:43 AM

Hair Cuttery $16 + tip

But I recently found a beauty school that only charges $8. I have thick hair, and I only want a simple cut short and easy to wash and wear. So I don't have any big demands for my hair.

At least when the students cut my hair and I don't like it, I can say to myself "Hey, it's only $10. What do you expect?"

lheartsl 05-10-2011 05:49 AM

50.00 wash cut and style. I don't go that often, so It isn't that much.
I color my own hair. I go to the beauty supply store and get it at my discount...
I have my license, and I cut everyone eles hair for free no less. So its my treat...
Hey I think my family should get together and pay for mine! LOL

I pay $8.00 at the barber shop. She does a great job on my thick curly hair. And yes I am female.

Chasing Hawk 05-10-2011 06:42 AM

I haven't cut my hair is 20 years.

jeaninmaine 05-10-2011 06:59 AM

I have my hair cut pretty short, then let it grow for about 4 months and cut it again. The place I go to charges 25.00 including tip. I would go more often if I found a place that did a decent job of my hair, it's got a million cowlicks and very hard to give a good cut to.

Naturalmama 05-10-2011 07:08 AM

I cut ds and dh's hair and only get mine done a couple times a year. I pay $20 for just a cut (not incl tip) and I cut it myself in between.

And worth every penny to get a great haircut! :)

Same here.

Katz13203 05-10-2011 07:15 AM

There is only one person that can cut my hair right. I follow her from salon to salon. I get a wash and cut for $20 + tip.

Me too and she does a great job. She even came to my house when I was laid-up after surgery, and charged nothing extra.
Read about her in the local paper several months after I moved up from NYC. Article said she'd studied sculpture, so I figured she knew about shape.
Saved me driving to NYC every 5 or 6 weeks - gas alot cheaper then, but still.

That has been my problem too. I went to my daughters salon because she had bragged so on her stylist. First haircut great, second so-so, third awful. I just can't get a good haircut and I think my cut is really simple. I have decided I don't know how to describe the cut I want. Well, maybe not, it also seems like I get the cut the stylist wants me to have not even close to what I tell them.

JoAnnGC 05-10-2011 09:01 AM

When I lived in NY I went to some very expensive stylists who had worked for John Freeda, Vidal Sassoon and other famous trendsetters. When I moved down here it took me a long time to find anyone whom I really liked. I finally found a great haircutter who had been a trainer for L'Oreal Professionnel. He's in a very upscale salon now about a mile or so from where I live and I pay $65.00 plus tip for a really great haircut. Once I lost my job about a year and a half ago I could no longer afford or justify the expense of this luxury. Last month I went to Great Clips, paid $6.99 with a coupon, found a pretty good stylist who intuitively knew what would work best with my hair which is very fine and straight, tipped her $5.00 and walked out of there very happy. They didn't offer me a glass of wine or sparkling water or fuss over me as they did in the fancier salon but I would recommend this particular stylist anytime and told her so!

Iamquilter 05-10-2011 10:21 AM

I paid $10.00 a wash and cut. Now she retired two days before Christmas in 2010 and now I pau $20.00 every 6 weeks.

JanetM 05-10-2011 10:22 AM

Haircuts at a salon average $45. That includes washing and blow drying. Supercuts (chain salon) probably charge less.

cafegold2 05-10-2011 10:50 AM

Every 4-6 weeks I am charged $30. I add a 20% tip.

grannypat7925 05-10-2011 10:58 AM

My niece does mine and I give her $15. Well worth it as she is the only one who seems to be able to give me the cut I want.

charhend 05-10-2011 11:39 AM

Lets see.............Just had my hair highlighted, done in foil and it cost $80.00. The cuts are $20.00. When I have to pay $80.00 I have a really hard time leaving a big tip!

Rann 05-10-2011 11:43 AM

I pay $10 to $12 for a cut which consists of a shampoo, cut, dry and style. Funny but her weekly shampoo and sets cost a lot more and are the same thing except no cutting is involved. Makes no sense. I get a perm every 3 months for 40. I travel 45 miles to get it done since she does such a good job and dread the moment she decided to retire.

Rann 05-10-2011 11:44 AM

Oh, and she will hand a tip back to you because she owns the shop.

BellaBoo 05-10-2011 11:47 AM

I had a beautician that cut my hair just like I wanted it and I paid her to give me lessons how to cut my hair. I cut, she supervised. I haven't been to a salon in years and my hair is always just how I want it. Oh, never cut across, hold the scissors vertically and snip 1/4" at a time. Learned that years ago. The hair doesn't have that just cut look to it. That tip paid for itself many times when my girls had bangs and always needed a trim but hated the just cut look.

bubbe1659 05-10-2011 12:03 PM

used to pay $50.00 every 2 months....my hair grows very fast....as it was being cut i could see it growing (lol)...my husband talked me into going to his barberand you know what he did a better job on my hair than the "stylist" and it costs me $15.00 including tip

Patchworkmarion 05-10-2011 12:05 PM

I barter for mine.My neighbour cuts my hair, and I baby sit for her.Everyone is happy.

QuiltnCowgirl 05-10-2011 12:14 PM

My color, cut & style is $70 every 5-6 weeks. I've been going to the same hairstylist for 15 years.

gunny148 05-10-2011 12:16 PM

My wife gets her cut at 25 to 30,

Could you find a picture of what you llike and take that with you?

ssgramma 05-10-2011 12:41 PM

I have taken a picture or picked one out of their style mags and still not looked anything like it!

First life after high school I went to beauty school and it really gripes me to have to come home and even up the sides or bangs no matter what the price was! Now I make them double check and then I check it!

In this town I have yet to have a really good haircut low end, mid-range or top price. Did get one in Denver while visiting a couple years ago and for $65 got the best cut I have had since CA.

jad1044 05-10-2011 01:02 PM

$11 includes the tip for a haircut from a lovely young lady - who has her shop in her garage next to her home in the country - so she is close at hand if her hubby needs her in the field, or help with the cows, or bringing in a newborn calf; a jolly person, who just makes your day! and being from the farm myself, and living on one, we can wile away the time just talking "farm"........ no gossip, just farm talk.....

galvestonangel 05-10-2011 01:34 PM

I pay $30 for shampoo, cut and style (I have short hair). Color highlights and cut is about $100.00. I have been going to the same person for about 15 yrs.

One place my DD used to go was $100.00 for cut, extra for blow dry and even more for style. She had a permanent color put on for lots of bucks by them, it did not last a week. They would not stand behind it, she no longer goes there.

kylenstevesmom 05-10-2011 01:56 PM

I met my stylist at a begininers quilting class!!!

She also grew up in the same area in SK that I did, and knows my parents neighbours.

I finally bit the bullet and went to her, and I paid $55 for a cut, blowdry, and intense conditoner. Normally it's about $80 or so.

I've helped her out with some stuff, and she appreciates it, so she pampers me when I go to the salon.

I used to do my own color, but I go to a beauty school and I think it's about $40 or so, but I love the color so it's worth not having the mess in my bathroom.

I went to beauty school, so I do the boy's hair (they won't let anyone else touch it) and when I have time I will do the boy's dad's hair.

Marge L. 05-10-2011 02:33 PM

Haven't had a perm for 20 yrs. Get it cut every 4-6 wks. It varies, and only pay $10 for shampoo & cut.

Marge L. 05-10-2011 02:37 PM

Haven't had a perm for 20 yrs. Get it cut every 4-6 wks. It varies, and only pay $10 for shampoo & cut. When all of the family was growing up, I cut the boys (5) and hubby's myself. I'm not a professional but must admit I did do a pretty good job. Eventually my FIL had me cut his.

barbt 05-10-2011 03:24 PM

mine is $ 30 for wash cut and set

karenchi 05-10-2011 03:29 PM

Well, I have short hair and it was costing $18. (+) tip...
I got fed up when the gal kept stopping to answer the shop phone.
So now I go to a place that costs $12.00 and always use a 10.00 coupon....I'm happy!

sewphie 05-10-2011 03:32 PM

I pay $22 for a wash and cut and always give a $2 tip for wash and $5 tip to the hairdresser.I think the hair dressers work very hard and deserve a good tip.The young girl that washes my hair is in training and she couldn't believe it when I gave her a tip, guess it doesn't happen much.

gbquilter 05-10-2011 04:02 PM

I am a retired hairdresser and pay $25.00 for a haircut every 4 weeks too. I also have thick, wavy hair. If you are happy with your haircuts then you are paying the right amount. I used to travel two hours to get my haircut. But the person who cut it was the one who taught me to cut. And she was very good.
