I thought this was pretty amazing and hadn't heard about it before. For those of you who love corn on the cob, it’s an absolute must-see! No mess to preparing it and no silks to try to brush off of the corn (it comes out perfectly clean).

I hope the video works for you.

CloverPatch 10-17-2011 10:28 AM

so is the corn "cooked" at that point or does it still need to be prepared??

I feel like this is a stupid question, so pardon if it is.

caquiltingdeb 10-17-2011 10:28 AM

Wow, love corn on the cob, can't wait to try this. Thanks for posting the link.

He says it's ready to eat after cooking in the microwave.

I usually like to wash the corn after I shuck it to get any bugs or anything hiding in there... oh well, just extra protein I guess!

BellaBoo 10-17-2011 10:36 AM

Great!

butterflies5518 10-17-2011 10:41 AM

neat idea - would have never tried that.

Zhillslady 10-17-2011 11:07 AM

I'm gonna get corn on the way home and try that

No not a stupid question because I was wondering the same thing myself. Is the corn cooked or does it still need to be cooked? Neat way to get rid of the silk though.

Peckish 10-17-2011 11:13 AM

He says when it comes out it's ready to eat, so I'm assuming it is cooked.

This is the question I had!

Airwick156 10-17-2011 11:19 AM

I think it is already cooked as its being cooked for 8 minutes in the microwave. I already have shucked corn in my freezer maybe when we go to town if I remember I will grab a couple ears.

I have always cut my corn like that and pulled off the husks but never have I cooked them in the microwave like he did.

How long do you think corn needs to cook?

Cheri_J 10-17-2011 11:24 AM

My parrot loves corn on the cob and I hate shucking it. I will definitely try this even though Pooperbird will not be very patient waiting for the corn to cool! Thanks for sharing.

Glassquilt 10-17-2011 11:40 AM

That would work for hubby & me but don't think I could feed the whole family if they all showed up for dinner. I know they wouldn't want to eat in shifts. :)

blueangel 10-17-2011 11:48 AM

Thanks

He cooked it for 8 minutes.

caquiltingdeb 10-17-2011 11:53 AM

He cooked 2 ears for 8 minutes, he said 4 minutes per ear. Did y'all listen to the video?

I've been putting shucked corn in the microwave wrapped in waxed paper for about 4 min. It comes out perfectly crisp and ready to eat. No need for boiling water. I don't know how you'd do it for more people than 2 but it works for us. I'll have to try this next summer if I can remember it by then. Looks like a good idea.

gale 10-17-2011 12:39 PM

When it comes out of the microwave, it is cooked.

for bugs, you can cut them off and the chewed parts after it's cooked. Same with bad spots.

I microwave corn in the husks (but not for 4 minutes an ear) and then wrap it in a kitchen towel for 5 minutes or so afterward.

We always rinse the ears after shucking to help cool them down, so we can remove any bad spots or buggy spots then. I have not yet tried this method of shucking though. I saw it last week but I don't know if anyone is still selling corn in the husks around here.

hlponyfarm 10-18-2011 02:52 AM

I tried this last night. it was wonderful adn perfectly cooked!

finch 10-18-2011 02:55 AM

Seems like a neat idea.I usually put my cleaned corn in the pressure cooker ,add 1 cup of water and cook it for 3 minutes.I am going to try this, just for the heck of it though.

babyquiltlady 10-18-2011 02:56 AM

Perfect. I grew up on a farm and this is about the style I used. Either way - fresh corn is the best!

mim 10-18-2011 03:00 AM

except that I like to leave a stub of the "stem" as a handle to hold it while I'm eating. I don't like buttery hands. I'm sure it tastes better than corn that has been boiled with a lot of water which dilutes the taste.. I layer some husks on the bottom of the pot and use 1/2 inch water and steam the ears.

I love corn fresh from the garden --Mmmmm

WMUTeach 10-18-2011 04:18 AM

What fun! I hope I remember this when the grand kids come to stay next summer. Then will think I am crazy, weird and just the best grammie they could ever have when I shake the corn out of the husks! Thanks for the 8:00 am smile!

YES IT IS COOKED THE MICROWAVE COOK THE SHUCK,SILKS AND CORN.

sandpat 10-18-2011 06:07 AM

Hmmm....I'll have to give this a try, thanks for sharing. I don't usually cook my corn but for about 2 min. per ear, but I assume with the husks on...you need that extra time. We LOVE corn on the cob though and this is worth a try!

annthreecats 10-18-2011 06:16 AM

I passed this on to all my relatives. Thanks.

mhansen6 10-18-2011 07:00 AM

All these years I have been cleaning the husks off then boiling the ears. This is so simple.

Couldn't you use those little corn holder thingys?

janjj 10-18-2011 08:10 AM

I will have to pass on this too although it seems like an easy way.
I do not like to microwave anything - It changes the molecture structor of the food - so is not really good food after microwaving it. Sorry but that is how I feel.
Why eat something that by doing so has been changed into something that is not healthy?

phyllvog 10-18-2011 08:15 AM

I will have to buy some corn and see if this really works. Neat!
