Hummer's bath

I have a small fountain next to my slider and 2 feeders by my sliding glass door. I have 10 feeders in my yard but the ones by the slider are their favorites. I think they like to watch us as much as we like to watch them. The other night one of the decided it was bath night and spent 3 or 4 minutes swimming in the water pool at the top. I think he was actually body surfing on the water bubble at one point. I saw this once last year but this year I was able to get my camera and snap a couple of quick pictures of the little guy/girl frolicing.

Absolutely charming. We love to watch them too. I have to get what we call shepherd's hooks to put the feeders on. The cats can get up the other kind.

This is adorable. Hummers like to fly through gently sprinkling water to bathe and this set up for them is like a hummer spa. What fun to be able to watch them this close. TFS

Hmm. It seemed my hummers were late coming this spring and was thrilled when I began to see a few at the feeder, which is suspended from the gutter outside the enclosed back porch. So I cleaned the window, refilled the feeder and there are no hummers. Do you suppose the clean window is a factor or where did the little birds go?

Thanks for pics---love the hummers !

We turn on a sprinkler, watch them come for food and bath..flying through the water.

Endora 06-05-2017 05:34 AM

They are just the sweetest little things aren't they.

Three Dog Night 06-05-2017 05:47 AM

They do love the water- they become the most active on cooler days when we have rain and living just north of Seattle we do have rain.

I have actually had them perch on me, and at least one will come tell me when the feeder is empty, hovering in my face and chirping.

How much fun. I enjoy the ones that flit around here.

My folks had a mobile home with a 20' window across the front. On the awning they had several hummingbird feeders. They would laugh about how much time they spent watching the little birds flitting from feeder to feeder- cheapest entertainment ever!

We have 3 feeders here at camp in the ADK. Had a visitor Saturday night who took all of them down. Mr Bear or momma bear then went and did the same. So now they go out at 8am and in at dusk. One hummer almost came into the camp when I opened the door to hang them! They are a blessing!

Marvelous creatures...they can fly backward, forward, do figure 8's...just amazing. Thanks for sharing these photos.

I love them but no matter what I do I can't get them to come to my yard. My fried lives about five miles from me and she has them every year. For Christmas my son bought me a Hummer to hang in my tree.
