I buy the cheap stuff ... if I don't like it I try something different the next time. I haven't found anything I really love either.

One of my best friends is a 57 years old woman. she has the most beautiful skin I have ever seen. She is black and her secret is that every day she uses a tiny bit if Vaseline around her eyes. There isn't a wrinkle on that face and she looks more beautiful than many younger women I have met. When Emi was born my thyroid function was lost completely and the first symptom was that my skin dried up. I was so jealous because she is 10 years older than me and her skin looked so much better than mine. That made me go to the Dr and find out that I had not had thyroid hormone for quite some time. I took the pills and solve the problem, but her skin still looks better.

That's interesting, because I had an aunt whose skin at age 70 made her look like 40. She had very dry skin, and her secret was using Vaseline as a moisturizer every night. Not all skins can handle Vasleline, though; mine would break out in acne. She also never got a suntan.

It also helps to live in a climate that is humid year-round. Humidity in the air prevents the skin from chronically drying out. Keeping a moisturizer on your skin at all times is a good alternative, as it will protect from drying winds, dry air, air pollutants, etc. It is the cumulative damage from all these things (and sun) that ages the skin. (Actually, sun is probably the single most damaging thing for skin; wind, dry air, and pollutants are probably a close second.)

I don't think there is a huge difference among low- and high-priced moisturizers. Whatever your skin can tolerate is good, and lanolin is the ingredient that is supposed to be the most useful. A lot of the higher-priced lotions and creams simply feel nicer on the skin, become invisible faster, don't leave a greasy feeling, maybe smell better, etc. Although retinol and similar ingredients are good, the amounts in over-the-counter cosmetics are often not worth the high cost. It's cheaper to get a doctor's prescription and pay for a tube yourself.

I have used "Serious Skin Care" Products for a good 15 tears. I am 72 and when I go shopping with my oldest son (54) everyone tells him he has a beautiful wife. Makes him so upset. I use their retinol cleanser 2 rimes a week and put moisturizer on 2-3 times a day and a heavy moisturizer at night, I have never had the smile lines on either side of my mouth until 6 months ago when I started having some dental work done. Now I am working to get rid of them I have extremely dry skin, so lately I have been using Garnier
and it seems to work but all of the SSC line on HSN is the best I have ever used and not high priced.

I just use soap to wash my face, then oil of Olay around my eyes, ect.

I use a moisturizer by Estee Lauder around my eyes and an oil-free lotion by Merle Norman for the rest of my face. My real secret - oily skin. I have almost no wrinkles because my skin is still oily. It's supposed to dry out as you get older but not me. I'm ok with it. ;)

Pretty clear from looking at my picture that I can't claim to have avoided the sun. lol

The part about genetics is true - you either have good skin genes or you don't.

I used to try to use moisturizers and cleansers, but they all made my face break out. I'm 61 now and have used nothing specifically for moisturizing or cleansing other than Dove Sensitive Skin. People tell me I look younger than my age, but people say a lot of things. :)

I remember being 25, applying for a job where the manager looked at me and asked "How old are you? 15?" I didn't get the job; I suspect the manager thought I was lying.

I also remember being 15 and wishing I was 21 - all that freedom to do what I wanted to do, no restrictions. We all know how well that worked out, don't we?

Try
"Moisturel". The doctor reccommended it for my baby girl when her skin was dry. Excellent moisurizing, no fragrance. I use in everyday and it even works under makeup. I know it is available in Canada not sure about US. Sometimes I have to ask for it in stores, it is behind the counter in some places.

Skin products seem to be a very personal decision as we all have distinctive genetics and conditions. I was having problems for several years with spots on my face, particularly my nose, that simply would not heal. I tried several things, before my daughter suggested Philosophy products. She had some rashes that required visits to a dermatologist and that was a brand that he approved. I began with just the cleanser(Purity), moisturizer(Hope in a Jar), and a serum(When Hope is Not Enough). The spots began to heal and have not given me any problem since. Once in a while I will see a little redness appear on my nose but it is gone in a day or two. Anyway, I love the stuff!
