Every single time it is going to rain here I get overrun by the darn things. I hate them! They buzz around your head and annoy you, land on you, and just gross me out. They can't be little flies either...no they have to be these huge things that sound like a horse or something. I can't find the fly swat either this morning. The dog probably ate it. Anyone know how to convince a fly to go to those flystrips? I might have to break bad and do what dh used to do (20 years ago)......get a can of hairspray and a lighter! The only thing is I only have one can of hairspray and I really like it and this rain makes my hair frizz so I need it! I really see no reason why God created flies....must have been after Adam and Eve sinned!

LOL Oh Ginnie, I hate flies too! BUT your DH's method sounds like someone could go up in flames! If the hairspray catches fire in the air, does that mean your the hair on your head with hairspray on it would too? ;-) OMG! What a thought! Be careful, and you and your new friends have a great day! :-)

We have a blind dog who can't negotiate a double dog door, so we keep the inner door open in the summer, and just have a cut out in the outer door. And flies!!

These things work pretty well. I have one about 25 feet outside of that door, and while they aren't all gone, it keeps the population down. Of course, like all fly traps, they are disgusting, so maybe you have to disguise it.

I have bought the cheap wasp traps and it catches more flies than wasps!
i put a small piece of hamburger in it..and hang it away from the deck and patio door..works for me..

you can get hair spray (the kind that works with the compressed air,NOT the pump type) at the dollor store. i have used it in the house, because of the dogs and grandkids..

We have terrible flies around our area...lots of farms I guess. I buy 3 of the white plastic holders that have a yellow pest stip inside. I put one just inside the back door..and two in the kitchen...NO flies! I think the brand is called Hot Shot..They gave them at Walmart.
I never tried hair spray.

Try basil plants...a neighbor keeps a pot on her patio table and on her table in the house and on the bar in the kitchen.

well I would never do what dh did to them....too scared of flame throwers myself and he doesn't do it anymore. Guess he grew up lol! But I have sprayed them with hairspray to stiffen their wings long enough to get a fly swat after them. Besides if I used the flame thrower the kids would want to try it! No way!

I hate them too, and my nearest neighbors are about 200 cows, so we have way to many! I will try the basil!

My husband leaves the doors open in the sun room and they come in like they are welcome to be there too. I use windex, hair spray, bathtub scrubbin bubbles, awesome, spray starch. If it sprays I hit them with it. When they fall down I can smash their heads. Guess the animal rights activist would be mad. I have some mouse trap glue boxes out now to see if flies will go into it. If they will it will be an easy way out. If the basil works would you let us know please. I am going to go ahead and put some out.

they are such pests aren't they? Between the kids and the dogs its hard keeping the door shut....given that its the kitchen door there's always something to tempt them in too. I will try the basil.
