I LOST my sewing room… ..The room where I was sooooo happy to “play” all day, where my gal pals came to sew with me (okay, it was cramped, but still fun). The place I was happy to just be in…I’ve been so sad without it for the past several months that I haven’t completed anything, heck I’ve barely sewn anything…

So what did I do? I pulled myself out of my frunk and took over the formal living and dining rooms! As Carol Doak once said, “Who needs those anyway?” We tore the carpet out of both rooms, threw down temporary floor cover, and then moved all the fun in! Now I have space to stretch out, and room to have a couple friends sewing at once. And… and I’ll have a much larger design wall soon!

I’m doing a happy dance! :-D

I really want to do the same thing, but my dh is slightly resistant. I say slightly because I'm getting a Juki with frame and he has agreed to put it in the living room.

This will get my foot in the door.

LOL!

tutty 07-26-2011 08:59 AM

wow some hb you have there !!! I say dance and dance with him !!! Enjoy

AtHomeSewing 07-26-2011 09:12 AM

Congrats on the new frame! You're well on the way to having the space! :D

Happy dance! I've thought about taking over the living room several times. I watch tv in my sewing room, the kid has one in his room, and SO watches in his office. We use the living room about once a month.

I am glad that you have a place to sew.

The other day I had a quilt laid out on my living room floor. I told my husband I would pick it up before we went to bed. He said "Why, we don't use that room anyway." So it is still there.

Congratulations, love to see pictures

Athomesewing,
Your original sewing room has been so inspirational! I came across picturs of it over a year ago when I was finally able to create a dedicated sewing space in my home. I incorporated a few of your ideas along the way, including the white cabinet for fabric, and having a dedicated spot to hang each ruler on my pegboard. Good luck with the bigger space!

AliceQ 07-27-2011 03:39 AM

Pictures, pictures, where are the pictures! I love seeing all the sewing rooms!

QuiltswithConvicts 07-27-2011 04:18 AM

Yahoo! So happy for you!!! I took over the dining room last October & have never been so happy. I guess I didn't really like being squirreled away at the back of the house all by myself with no TV. Just think how much closer you are to the kitchen now! Snacks are right at hand anytime!. Coffee pot right there, too. Lunch for the girls - no biggie.

Congratulations!

GladGrams 07-27-2011 04:38 AM

Keep on dancing, I agree with the fact that a formal dining room is a waste of space in any home that houses a quilter. Quilters don't have time to prepare formal dinners.

Good for you!! I took out my dining room too! No need for that anyway!

Awww, thank you JenniePenny! The ruler board has found a new home, although I did have to modify it as I didn't have a door handy, but it's still a good thing!

Great thinking. It may home to others, but it's DH's and your house!

Robin Lynn 07-27-2011 09:37 AM

Yeah, who needs a formal dining room and living room anyway.

talkn58 07-27-2011 11:04 AM

Sew happy for you, we have to have our space, I tell my hubs to stay out, my space only, otherwise he will "borrow" things that are not his.

Me too!

Excellent use for an underused room. My DH turned formal living room into his office. I got half the basement for my sewing area. Love it. I say use your home space the way it suits you not necessarily what it was designed for.

Show pictures once your are all set up.

QuiltingSister 07-27-2011 05:42 PM

pictures, we want pictures :-) Conrats on your new space!

I love it! I got rid of all my furniture in my living room furniture and dining room furniture and now that is my sewing studio. It is awesome. I love the huge design wall. My husband installed these huge natural lighting fixtures. I have the ironing table, cutting table, sewing cabinets, ironing table and storage on wheels. That way I can configure it to how I need it when I need it. I did keep the dining table. It holds my Alto cutter, ironing press, serger, bias tape maker, and a couple of in progress projects. The accuquilt and dies have their own cabinet. I call it my quilting studio and my old room is the quilting annex...haha.

raynhamquilter 07-28-2011 03:30 PM

How did you lose your studio?

Mar_ie 07-30-2011 02:39 PM
