I keep some flour sack dishtowels on hand and the grandkids like to go through my embroidery transfers (mostly Aunt Martha's) and choose a theme for the person who will be the giftee. They tell me where to iron the design on the towel and then they use my permanent fabric markers to color the designs. Then, we put the towel in a brown envelope and we go to the Post Office and mail it to their friend or mom or dad, etc. The giftees love them and they can be used and washed and still look great.

How about going to the library and getting a movie of a different country and then fix a meal from that country.

You probably feel you already have more than enough great ideas - but here are some more.
You said you like to show them movies and shows from the '50s and '70s. Ask in advance, and your library can get you some that you don't have via inter-library loan. Have they ever seen... Born Free (movie telling the story of Elsa, an adopted baby lion and how she grows up) Here Come the Brides (TV show about three brothers in pioneer times looking for wives. Bobby Sherman played Jeremy, the youngest.) Finian's Rainbow (movie) Get some good plays from the library and have each person read one of the parts. Have any projects needing doing, like putting up a gazebo or a new shed? The kids could help. If you don't already keep chickens, have them put up a chicken pen and buy a few chickens. |
Spent alot of time in OK, graduated from OSU, it's way to hot to do much outside this time of year!!! Just north of Ponca City in Arkansas City KS, use to be a Crayola Crayon factory, they did tours and it was awesome!!
OKC has a wonderful hands on kids science museum! Great Salt Plains was amazing, my kids loved it and even did science project the following year after we visited. You've gotten some awesome suggestions from the members of the group!!! Tye Dying shirts is certainly always a hit with the kids! Whatever you do have fun and enjoy the time. It will be great memories for all. Anne |

Wow, i love this thread, so much fun, but i have to admit, i only got through first 3 pages, cus so many ideas! :) So i hope this idea hasnt been said yet. How about, the older ones are teens, how bout making some kind of digital memory book of camp and grandma and grandpas? The older kids can even help the younger kids on this. Like they could take lots of photos, play dress up, and take funny photos of each other, photos of fun stuff you guys do. And then, they can even edit the photos. You can edit a photo into a pencil sketch, print it out, and they can even colour them. Or if there's a video camera around, the kids could make a fun video. It sounds like you're gonna have tons of fun :) Oh, and if they've never seen The Honeymooners lol, you gotta find a copy of that, our kids used to laugh so hard over that show lol

Go to Leonardo's in Enid. A great hands on museum and huge outdoor wood playground maze. My grandkids love it. There is also a park on the south edge of Enid that has a small train you can ride, miniature golf course and a couple of other rides. Great place for a picnic lunch. There is also a water park on west Garrison.

Having my grandkids everyday, i have to keep them busy with different things to keep them out of trouble. Although mine are little 1,2,3,5 they still like the "other" things we do besides play.
I have picnic day in the livingroom, we do tents out of blankets for camping day, we bake "special treats" for mommy, play with shaving creme, play dough. Finger paint white tee shirts, Papa loves his little hands tee shirt...i made it into a pillow I hope this helps...have fun!!! |
We used to celebrate "Christmas in July" way back in camp days.
Pick a day that is not too windy & make glitter ornaments, snowflakes from pipe cleaners and picture frames. Get those gifts done early! Make it a big Santa's workshop secret! If you pm me your address, I will send you Mr & Mrs Santa paper dolls- in swimsuits! Serve gingerbread ! Also I love Mod Podge with fabric scraps. Recycle some cans, jars, whatever. Give the kids the scraps & get the older one to fussy-cut some figures to glue on last. When the school year starts, it's hard to find time. Now I am going to send you a photo of leaf printing- another favorite of mine. |
