I'm an insomniac!

Murphy 06-17-2011 07:08 PM

Early morning-love, small nap, late night. That is my ideal day (smile).

yellowsnow55 06-17-2011 07:08 PM

I'm not a morning person either.

Same here...but I my problem is I have a job..and I have to get up. Guess I should be happy I have the job!

Summer Spice 06-17-2011 07:09 PM

The best part of my day are the early morning hours...

NikkiLu 06-17-2011 07:10 PM

Me too - somebody was seeing a really pretty sunrise and I had to admit that I have never seen one! I don't sleep too late but do not do too much in the mornings but I do build up steam all day and could be vacumming at midnight if everybody else wasn't already in bed.

cjomomma 06-17-2011 07:10 PM

I have to be a morning person because I have kids. Ive gotten to the point that if I sleep in past 6:30am then I feel like I have wasted my day. I also stay up til 11:30pm unless I'm super tired.

Charlee 06-17-2011 07:11 PM

Oh Lordy!! I am SO not a morning person to the point that even tho the office opens at 8am, the boss told me to stay home til 9am because "You're so much more civil then!"

As for appointments? I went to a doctor once who suggested a followup appointment. When I went to make the appointment, the receptionist suggested "7:30 ok with you?" I replied that I didn't know they were open that late. She told me she meant 7:30 am...I told her my clock only has ONE "7:30" on it, and it had NOTHING to do with "am"!!!!

Carron 06-17-2011 07:14 PM

I love mornings as long as I am in bed. I am very much a night person.

I'm not either, yet at times I must rise and stagger around the house at 5 AM, that is Oh dark hundred!! We go to some early drives out of town and the road trip is long and thank goodness I'm not the driver. I sit back in the back seat and nod off, cuddled up in my lap robe that lives in the van in winter. But usually I stay up late and for the latest hours I'm on the computer till 2 or so and then to bed, after discussing which side of the bed the cat will sleep on. He usually wants my side but I'm bigger than he so I usually win. He gets even with me, at about 4 AM he will jump from the top of the wall to wall bookcase and land on my full bladder....I've learned not to sleep in the middle of the bed.

craftybear 06-17-2011 07:20 PM

I agree with you the older I get I don't like to make early appts. in the morning

I'm a night owl too. Thats when I do my housework and most of my sewing.

babyfireo4 06-17-2011 07:27 PM

Not a morning person. So much so that during the school year I'd get my son up and off then take a nap lol. DH and him never have figured out how I can stay up so late and get up early hehehe

bjeriann 06-17-2011 07:28 PM

I have never been a morning person. DH was on mid-nights for 18yrs, now he's on days. He thought I would get up with him at 4:30 am, It happened twice, now he would rather I stayed in bed. If we see each other in the a.m. it's because I haven't been to bed yet.

Ditto, big time.

CloverPatch 06-17-2011 07:46 PM

I am torn. I like sleeping in, but I also enjoy waking up early and having a full day. Mornings are peaceful, but also boring so that is another reason to sleep in.
I go back and forth. I don't make appts till after 10am.

When recently ask to come in at 8:30am I asked "why? feel like pushing your luck?" At that early Im either going to be VERY irritable and tired, or too sleepy to care.

akisan 06-17-2011 07:54 PM

I sure do the same thing now that I'm retired. At times I stay up until 3:00 am quilting. It somehow relaxes me and I enjoy the peacefullnes at that time. And yes, I do spend a lot of time reading this board.

earthwalker 06-17-2011 08:04 PM

Love very early mornings and late nights....I can get by with about 4 hours sleep, but as I am married I make it 6 as it is bothersome for everyone if I'm up and about rummaging around. Always been the same, ever since I was a child.

virtualbernie 06-17-2011 08:16 PM

I stay up until about 4:30 a.m. and sleep until 11. I learned to do this because my daughter and her 3 kids with ADHD lived with me and the only me time I got was after they went to bed! So, so peaceful!!!!!!!!!! Now they've moved but I see no reason to change my schedule. I even insisted on a daytime nurse to take care of my foster son so that I could sleep in. I also don't make appointments before 12:30 in the afternoon--later if possible. ;)

Nanamoms 06-17-2011 08:24 PM

I am definitely NOT a morning person. Don't speak to me before at least 10:00 am, sometimes noon. If I have to get up before 10:00, I have to take a nap around 4:00 pm; then I can stay up until around 3:00 am. All my friends and family KNOW not to call me before 10:00 AM.

I make all my appointments in the afternoon. Even my hairdresser asks if 11:00 am is too early for me? LOL And you should see the surprise on the medical receptionist's face when I stagger in after 9:00 am for "fasting" lab work! They always double check to see if I've eaten or drank anything and I say no...I just got out of bed! HeHe

If I've had a long day, say keeping the grandbabies, I'll lay down briefly but the longer I lay there, the wider awake I get. My mama told me that I was born at night and sleep all day and that's why I'm this way...and you know mamas never lie!! :)

janedee 06-17-2011 08:29 PM

I am definitely a morning person - am always up early with the birds probably because of my work - I start at 6.30am and am so used to it - downside am needing my bed by 10pm!!! but love watching the sun coming up and the listening to the birds waking

I hear the birds too--I just hear them BEFORE I go to bed not when I get up

My kids are all grown now but I agree with you that if I sleep in past 6:30 that I feel like I have wasted my day. I love getting up early because it makes the day last longer!! I'm all for taking naps in the afternoon though.

Rhonda 06-17-2011 09:13 PM

My grands when they are here know that even if they see me walking and talking I am NOT awake til the fuzz in my head is gone. Usually an hour after I get up. I prefer to stay up til 3 and sleep til 10 or 11. WHen kids are here I have to get up earlier but I call it kid time and I get off kid time as soon as they go home. Most of my grands are now old enough I don't have to be up when they get up.It kills me to revert to kid time. I do so much better when I can stay up til 3 and sleep in. MY mom always calls me every day about noon and ask if I am up yet. I have one son who thinks it is hilarious to call me at 6 or 7am. He knows he is waking me up! He is an early riser and always has been since he was born. He is up at 3 or 4 am every day.

I am a night owl I love the hours from midnight to 3. I know the phone won't ring and my DH is finally asleep. My mom is asleep and won't be in and out of my door. It is truly me time when I know I am uninterrupted. I can concentrate and not have to stop to answer anyone.

cctx. 06-17-2011 09:24 PM

I try to be a morning person, but I'm not.

Painiacs 06-17-2011 09:30 PM

Not a morning person!

snicker dee 06-17-2011 09:31 PM

I do like mornings either. One of the funniest examples of this came via my DGD. From the time she was an infant, she definitely was NOT a morning girl. My DD would get her up, dressed and fed to go to the babysitter... but then our little gal would disappear. We would find her in someone's bed, under blankets on the couch or with her blankie curled up somewhere. She is almost 13 and still is not a morning person at all.

quiltingcandy 06-17-2011 09:43 PM

I tried for years to be a morning person. Going to school and going to work, I really tried to be a morning person. Even after two children, it just isn't part of my body chemistry. I am just much happier when I an sleep-in in the morning.

Gramof6 06-17-2011 10:01 PM

Ohhhh I do not do mornings unless it is absolutely a no other choice matter! I stay up until around 3am & do not like to get up until 10am. An afternoon nap happens ever now & then. lol

Linda Star 06-17-2011 10:58 PM

Yep a night owl here. That is my computer time. It is 2am and I'm thinking I better go to bed because we have a busy weekend.

craftybear 06-17-2011 11:00 PM

I know I need to get to bed now also 2:59 a.m as I have to help hubby with metal building early am as he gets up at 5:00 am.

Kas 06-17-2011 11:03 PM

I need my "me" time with 4 kids. I am up late, but not as late as I would like. I have to go to bed by 1:00 or I can't wake up in the morning to get them to school. The summer is a game changer, though. They stay up later, so I do, too!

sandilee 06-17-2011 11:08 PM

I am a nite owl, also. Hubby is a day person.

Yes, like you, I love to surf internet at nite while I sit in my chair, quilt or watch t.v. that I have taped thru the day.

Nite is sooo peaceful!

Linda71 06-17-2011 11:10 PM

Let's see, it is now 1:09 am. That's morning isn't it?

ckcowl 06-18-2011 01:52 AM

i LOVE MORNINGS!!! sitting out on my deck at 5am having a cup of coffee and watching the birds wake up and start to sing- the deer wandering up the hill- the sun just cresting the horizon...ahhhhhhhhhhh
the best way to start the day in my world.
i'm the only one in my family of parents, siblings- the rest of them all think no day should dare begin before noon- i'm about over my day by the time they are rolling out-
i am at my best first thing in the morning- productive, happy- ready to face the day- by 2 in the afternoon i'm winding down and ready for a relaxing afternoon.
ahhh but early morning---so peaceful-so beautiful===so many of you miss so much sleeping away half the day...but that's ok- i enjoy it for you :)

QuiltingGrannie 06-18-2011 02:25 AM

I'm an early bird/night owl!
Love my Early mornings - like to be up 5ish. If I sleep to 6 or 6:30 I feel like I've missed half the day!
But also like to stay up til after 11.

If I didn't have to sleep - I wouldn't.

I like early morning appointments - get them out of the way. Prefer to work the day shift instead of afternoon or evening shift at work.

Buttons922 06-18-2011 02:42 AM

I get up about the time you go to bed. I usually have all the online newspapers read when my morning quilting Board message arrives. Had a rule with my kids growing up....you wake mom up when you stay up late. I will wake you up when I get up!!! Only had to use it once.

dakotamaid 06-18-2011 02:49 AM

Another morning person here! I'm a farm girl from way back and I am always up by 5:30 or 6 AM. I love that time by myself.:)

sueisallaboutquilts 06-18-2011 02:58 AM

I believe the only time I EVER saw the sunrise was the day I had my second son. I love the idea of early morning but I'm definitely not a morning person.
For the last few days I've been getting up early and I'm tired all day :(
