I'm not that old!

My DD who is 36 just got back from a field trip with her 10 yr daughter and her class. She was so upset when she called me. Evidently they went to a historical museum in our capital city and she saw things in the museum that she used to play with. She kept saying it wasn't possible - she's not that old! Of course my reply was "wait until you go to antique stores and find things you used to play with - I see them all the time!" Guess it just goes to show how fast things change in these high tech times we live in now.

I remember saying, my grandmother has some of those.
Then it was my mother has some of those.
Then it was me, trying to remember how long I've has some of those.

At some antique shows the dealers have signs sitting around saying
No one cares what your grandmother had except your grandfather.
Crazy...if you don't engage your potential customer in friendly banter how do they survive in business?

You still look 32 to me... :)

LOL I am sure I'd find a few things they'd consider as "old" that I remember. Like Spoolies for curling your hair? Remember those. Not sure I spelled it right.

Oh, I know. I spent some time in an antiques store over the weekend and found myself getting wistful.

and I was born after man walked on the moon.

Since I had my own beauty salon for years...I have collected several vintage things..and I have some of those Pink Spoolies...we used them in our hair back in the 50's...the wave clamps.. the permanent rods that they hooked up to a machine...now that was not so good...

I remember the pink Spoolies! Used to set my mother's white hair with them!

I remember Spoolies. My Mom tried them on my baby fine hair and had to cut a couple of them out, it snarled so bad. I also remember one occasion with rag curlers. Then their was the dreaded Tonette home perm. She seemed to cut my bangs about an inch long too. I have a picture of my birthday party with all my little friends, guessing about age 8. All dressed in pastel party dresses and lace anklets. We all have the over-processed Tonette perms and the shorty-short bangs.

Oh Oh- I'm not yet 60 and I agree with all of you! Years ago someone came out with spoolies for embroidery floss, but they disappeared before I got them. My aunt was going to beauty school and gave 3 of us Toni perms- they were hideous and Mom wouldn't let us cut our hair short to get rid of the frizzies. I was teaching a sewing group at a church, and one of the women commented on my antique (1976) Kenmore. KalamaQuilts has me pegged to a T. I've seen those antique show signs also. One vendor said he was tired of folks clogging up his booth reminiscing without buying anything.

Yep, spoolies. try sleeping in those things. I did!!! my very straight hair took forever to dry and we didn't have hair dryers then. well not in my house. Vermont Country store still sells spoolies I think. I know I've seen them in some mail order catalog. not called spoolies though.
