So I think I just broke my little toe. I was minding my own business, carrying some laundry to wash and the stupid fan jumped out at me!!! One of those round metal ones on a v shaped base. It grabbed my little toe on my left foot and hung on for dear life, so now it is red, swollen, and pointing east ..lol. Theres also a suspicious white dot on it near the foot that Im hoping isnt bone trying to poke though. Im off to the er, I know they cant do much for a broken toe, but when I wiggle my toes the big toe and the one next to it move, not the other three. And Im not babying it when I wiggled them either. I tried to get them to move, nope, no dice. Of course Ive been unpacking all day and Im hot and sweaty and need to take a shower first..oh and do something about the chipped polish on my toes too..haha!!

Jim's Gem 06-27-2009 06:32 PM

OW!!! I hope you get it all taken care of and feeling better.

ScubaK 06-27-2009 06:40 PM

good thing you don't live here...broke or not, it would heal before they see you in ER!
sowwy, bout your toe, and naughty fan, lovestoquilt:cry:
feel better soon :D

littlehud 06-27-2009 07:51 PM

It's always best to have it looked at. Get better soon.

amma 06-27-2009 08:01 PM

Oh No!! Sorry about your toe!!! I hear a well place smack or two with a ball peen hammer cures those types of fans from that kind of behavior

I'm glad to know that you are taking the time to do a mini pedicure before going to the ER, I'm assuming you will be taking extra care with your hair and makeup too   A girl must always look her best ya know!!!

Ducky 06-27-2009 08:01 PM

Oh, so very sorry to hear about your toe. Don't you just hate it when they leap out at you? My husband has had couches and wall corners stalk and attack his little toes. We've been married over 32 years and I bet he's broken both little toes at least 15 times (combined). Talk about klutz!

Take it easy and keep it up. (my mantra to my DH).

littlehud 06-27-2009 08:27 PM

Oh Ducky, you are sooooo bad. :D :D :D :D

Doesn't he just hates when those walls move when he isn't looking !

Sorry about your toe, hope all is well And who knows maybe a good looking doc will be there to take care of you  Always made me feel better

Don't worry. You are not alone. I smacked into a chair in April. Could not wear shoes for over 3 weeks. Good thing I don't work. Hope yours does not hurt too much.

Amma and L2Q, forget the mani-pedi-hair. All the ER nurse really cares about is whether you have clean undies and socks on. Trust me, I know these things. She says as she mimes holding something with her arm outstretched, and holding her nose with the other hand.

loves2quilt 06-27-2009 11:57 PM

Ya'll are too funny! I just got home from the er and I didnt just break it, the bone broke and twisted. And I get to call the ortho dr Monday, surgery was mentioned and is a probability. :( They want me to see him no later than Tuesday. yippee I saw the xrays, theres about a 1/4 jagged diagonal split. Im now sporting the latest shoe fashion..haha and it friggin hurts. Dang fan!! I cheated on the nails, just threw another coat on top of the chips..and my socks and undies are always clean, lol. My sons socks on the other hand, you just about need a gas mask when he takes off his shoes, he has the worst smelling feet

sewaholic 06-28-2009 02:14 AM

Well no one can say you do things half arsed.
I feel your pain. Guess you will have to do some hand sewing with your foot up.

gaigai 06-28-2009 02:15 AM

OK, Loves, I know that the docs told you to stay off your feet and keep that foot elevated. It should be kept as high as you can, preferably higher than your heart. And keep ice on it for at least 20 minutes 4 or 5 times a day. That will really help the pain too. Good luck sweetie. And chuck that fan and get one with a round base!

loves2quilt 06-28-2009 02:57 AM

Gaigai, they did tell me stay off it and to use crutches too. And to keep it elevated but they didnt mention how high, is there a reason to keep it up high like you said? They gave me some Lortab and thats helping. I keep a bag of frozen corn that we use as an ice pack, it molds around your foot, ankle whatever as it melts and doesnt hurt like chunks of ice seem to do. Its in the kitchen and the crutches are upstairs (as is the bathroom!) and the kids are in bed so you wanna to grab that for me? LOL :D Sewaholic, you got that right, I once was running UP the stairs, tripped and broke a bone in my other foot. Im talented that way! Ha Ha

beachlady 06-28-2009 03:02 AM

Wow, thinking a broken little toe to surgery! That fan must really hate you to do all that damage. And you better listen to Gai, cuz if you don't, she will come over. Feel better and heal quickly!

oh, that's a good one, amma! - tip, about the ball peen hammer. Works great on husband's too!
yeah, I agree a girl does have to be on her toes...OUCH! sowwy, livesto quilt, I meant...look her best. That's why my spoon* goes everywhere with me. Doubles great as a mirror
You can't see it, in avatar, it's in my magical sewing kit, in my pocket...pockets make big things smaller, so you can get more in there...just look at my needle!

gaigai 06-28-2009 03:25 AM

Loves, the reason to elevate your foot higher than your heart, is that as long as it is below that level gravity keeps the blood there, which increases the swelling which increases the pain. So, the best bet is couch or recliner with a couple of cushions under your lower leg to keep it as high as possible. Of course I know that you have to take potty breaks, etc. But your family should be waiting on you, not vice-versa. They can cook for themselves and do their own darned laundry. Ignore the dust bunnies, they are indestructible anyhow! LOL

Sure, I'll get the crutches, just hold on! LOL

...broken little toes combined? Does that mean he broke both little toes at the same time?
...LOL, Ducky, well I guess you do talk about a klutz...hee hee hee!
My hubby wears shoes 24/7, but he has a problem with laundry baskets and such, whacking his shins...no skin on them...he has very thin legs, with a very round body, on both sides
I call him my tater man with chicken legs

L2Q...as for how high...till your eyebrows are lifted...(like a mini-facelift!)
Hear that frozen peas and corn work well for ice packs, but does it help flavor, when you cook them? :?
...handy place to keep crutches, - in the bathroom.
I hear in France, they prescribe suppositories* for everything, and a good pair of crutches would help with walking after that application :?
...wouldn't want you falling down and breaking something else...

But broken toes turn a nice shades of color! I did mine in on piece of antique furniture as I was pacing in the formal living room (talking on phone). After seeing stars and wiping the tears from eyes, I realized toe was not moving and got an ice pack.

The red and swelling turned to purples and blues and almost black and then to lovely green and yellow. A make up artist could not have done any better. Toe is fine, furniture is kept away from when pacing.

You can look forward to pretty colors too.

Bevanger 06-28-2009 04:16 AM

owie. i hope its not too serious. don't you know those fans bite. mine tried grabbing my leg yesterday. :(

You guys crack me up! I havent been to bed yet so Im kinda punchy anyway. If someone comes "snapping" rubber gloves at me Id be a runnin, er, hobbling. Or maybe a good smack with a crutch! Im sittin here on the front porch and it is soooo nice out, I might just sleep out here when I finally get my butt to bed. And before I hear any smart comments, not that any of you would do that (snicker) yes, it is enclosed. And youre right about the colors, wanna see? See how the top of the top is pointing out? I wonder how many times Ill manage to bump that? Oh and its a good thing I did a very quick swipe with the nail polish. Otherwise youd be seeing 3 stray hairs sitting there on my big toe, bold as you please, like they had a right to be there! Shaved those puppies right off, bit I wonder..when did that happen? And why?

gaigai 06-28-2009 05:00 AM

Ow, Ow, Owwwwww! That made me clench! But my second impulse was to say "I can straighten that out for you"!

Barbm 06-28-2009 05:01 AM

the pretty colors are starting, ahhh.

Guaranteed you'll whack that puppy a zillion times before it's totally healed. For some reason those injured toes like to grab onto everything when they're hurt.

well, that little piggy, won't be saying wee wee wee, for a bit...more like, oh me,me, me...fat little sausage isn't he?
hair on toes?...some guys love the hirsuit look!
me? I like slick chested guys...not a lot of fuzz!

it's a toe, conspiracy...goes back to putting your foot in it!

Barbm 06-28-2009 05:18 AM

FYI- I just looked at my toes to see if I had hair growing. None there. whew- wondered if it's common occurance, now I'm sure I'll be catching myself looking at people's toes to see if they grow hair. geez, thanks for the visual.

loves2quilt 06-28-2009 05:24 AM

LMAO!! Ill bet youre not the only one.!!! Lets see who else fesses up...ha ha I promised a friend I would drive her the airport in St Louis Monday, her mom is eldery and she wants to see her before its too late, its ONLY a 3 hr drive one way at that! Now how I can I prop my leg up..hmmm, wonder if itll fit out the window?

beachlady 06-28-2009 05:56 AM

That toe looks like it will never be normal again! Be careful with the 3 hr drive. Maybe your friend could drive your car going and then you could prop it up on the way. Then it would only be down for the way back. (I have a horror story if you want to hear it!) So please prop it up if you can!! Gai - tell her she needs to keep it propped up!!!!

gaigai 06-28-2009 08:31 AM

Beachlady that is an excellent suggestion! Listen to her loves.
