There is life after Facebook

auntpiggylpn 12-14-2011 08:02 AM

I knew there was! My friends got involved in FB about 4 years ago. We are all in the 35-45 years range. I always felt that I was "too old" for FB. And I still feel that way. I do have a FB page but seldom do anything on it. I like to read what is going on in my younger cousins' lives as they live in Washington DC. I only have 11 friends and I don't accept friend requests from people just because I work with them, go to school with them, or run may have gone to school with them. My profile is set so no one can view my information. I'm glad to see the younger people realizing how FB, texting, twitter, my space, etc are destroying the fine art of face to face conversation!!!

I'd rather just get a personal e-mail, thanks! I don't care if you're at the mall or at home doing laundry!

My younger relatives use Facebook as a regular communication channel, so I check on them that way. But it's not my life. Different strokes for different folks.

I am probably way out of the typical demographic of facebook, being almost 68, but, I confine it to a few friends and relatives and it is a good way to share some photos or generic information. I am in contact with those people anyway, by other methods, so none of us find it a bad thing. I don't allow my information to go to anyone unless they are my friend. Not friends of friends either. and yes, I know it could be hacked, but there isn't anything all that personal on it.

I use Facebook a little bit for the business... and I also use it personally (though not a lot). On the personal end, I do little things like post pictures of the first snowfall, or the goofy cat, hoping to bring a bit of "home" to my firstborn who is away at college for the first time.

I use Facebook to stay in Touch with my long lost nephew who we found on Facebook. I have not seen my nephew since he was about 8 years old. His mother took him out of the US and took him to Japan where she was from. She took him to keep my brother out of his son's life. But now that the nephew is grown and married, he has reached out to family when my little sister found him on Facebook. My mother went to her grave in 2003 not knowing where her grandson was.

I've never had anything to do with facebook.

I go to Facebook every day. Yes, it would be nice to receive personal e-mails, but let me tell you what I found there. I found OLD friends. I'm 61 yrs old and last weekend I got to meet up with classmates I haven't seen in over 42 yrs. I belonged to Jobs Daughters.........3 of the women I met up with had not come to MY class reunions because they were 2 and 3 yrs younger than me but we were in Jobs together. I have connected with old friends that, in years past, had a different lifestyle. Now our lifestyles are approximately the same. I found one playmate I'd had in grade school...........it's been PRICELESS to be able to communicate, to tell her how much I've missed her. Even one of my best friends, who refuses to go to class reunions because she said she sees everyone she wants to see since she lives in the same town we graduated in. Now she's connecting with old friends, too, and is VERY happy with Facebook. I even was able to find a niece on FB......I had divorced her uncle 25 yrs ago and according to that family, if you divorce one member, you divorce them all. I loved/love that girl/woman and am thrilled to be connected again.

Would I give up FB --- NOT ON YOUR LIFE!!!!!

I use FB to communicate with my grandchildren since the are deaf. that's it. I usually use email to tell them anything important. I keep telling them to watch out for crazys, not put any thing on FB that u don't want the whole world to know about.
