July 2012 Weight loss adventure with a prize!!!

On July 1st weigh yourself and write it down. Do NOT send it to me. On July 31st weigh yourself again and PM me with your loss. This is weight lost not % lost. I will announce the winner July 2nd.

PM me for address. FQ’s need to be received no later than the 10th of month.

You cannot win 2 months in a row.

Chit chat is allowed, as well as WAYWO, (what are we working on). Please stay positive and uplifting as that is what keeps us on track. Come to this thread for tips, recipes, encouragement and {{{{HUGS}}}}}}

The prize is a themed FQ. At the end of the month, I will mail all the FQ’s received to the winner by the 5th of the month. I will contact the winner and announce the winner with the number of FQ’s they will receive.
July is the heat of summer so think of cool. This month's theme is shades of blue. Please send quality what you would want to receive. As always if you cannot send the theme fabric please send what you have. If you don't have a FQ, send a linear 1/4 yard. If you have signed up to be in the competition, please send the FQ to hostess by the 10th of the month. The winner has worked hard for this reward.

Eat healthy, exercise, try and lose weight but most of all have fun!!!!!!!!!!!

Sign up deadline to be included in the Prize Adventure is the 3rd of each month at 9 p.m. CST, with your FQ postmarked by the 10th of month. You can always contribute to the thread, but it is only fair to have a cutoff for those trying to win.

TO PARTICIPATE, JUST SIGN IN HERE ON THIS THREAD BEFORE MARCH 3RD. THERE IS NO NEED TO PM FOR PARTICIPATION, JUST YOUR ENDING WEIGHT LOSS FOR THE MONTH.

You must sign into the thread at least weekly to be eligible for the winning "skinny quarters" or to be declared "best loser for the month."

Okay, here 'tis July. My weight is down from June, so goal is to keep it that way. I PM'd for June earlier this morning and will follow this posting with PM for July. Then I will be sure to log in weekly (or more) and keep up with the group that way. I am working on some handwork right now. At the first of each year, I start looking for different challenges that are posted from different groups (Hoffman Challenge, NQA challenge, etc) and see how many I'd like to try. This year it was 3. I finished 2 of them - didn't enter them because of difficulties with them that I knew would knock them out of any judging, but they were finished. I'm working on challenge #3 and hope to have it finished soon. I'll try to post pictures soon.

brenda21 07-01-2012 09:13 AM

I'm in for July and I too, need to post a little more often...June was crazy with no a/c most of the month! Anyway, I hope everyone enjoys the 4th of July with family/friends, stay cool, stay hydrated and stay positive:thumbup:

cdmmiracles 07-01-2012 09:20 AM

Pam H 07-01-2012 09:20 AM

Sign me up for July.
When you send your fq to Cindy include a postage stamp that she can use for mailing out to the winner.

Everose 07-01-2012 11:12 AM

Cindy, I'm in again for July. I was a gainer for June - up 1.2 lb. Up and down all month but that's part of life. Now I'll see what July has in store besides some hot weather.

Take care everyone - be good to you.

Jim's Gem 07-01-2012 11:55 AM

I'm in for July. Must do better than June!!!! You already have my FQ.

irishrose 07-01-2012 12:36 PM

I'm in. I lost almost 2 pounds, but June was an up and down month for me, too. I've started the list. welcome back to those who have posted already. I will send June's FQ directly to the winner. to me. My apologies for not following protocol.

Mim

Everose 07-03-2012 11:10 AM

Congratulations Cdm!!! Way to go.

As the weather heats up, I am more tempted to eat things that are not as good for me. Junk food and processed are my "easy outs". So I have tried to keep salad makings in the refrig and eat healthier. Lots of water. Do I want to cook (we don't have air in the house), NO but I want to be a healthy eater also.

So take care - be good to yourself.

quilthappygail 07-03-2012 03:02 PM

Hi all . I have been away for a while but would like to join in for July. I have not gained but about five pounds and I did much better with all your support and cheering,. can not promise to post each day but will do as much as possible.
Gail

cdmmiracles 07-03-2012 04:00 PM

thanks, everyone!! Cindy.....is sending a stamp enough?? Or would including a $1 with our fat quarter be better?? Also, I saw on a previous post where some had sent more than one fat quarter - how do we know ahead of time what to send theme wise??

blondeslave 07-04-2012 03:12 AM

Anybody in the group have experience with migraines? I have the occasional migraine maybe once a year but the one triggered by the cortizone shots doesn't want to leave. It started Friday and while nothing like it was the first couple of days I'm still getting twinges and it's not entirely gone. I still have pressure behind my eyes and at my temples. I've never had a headache linger this long and as I'm going out of town next week I need to get stuff done. Anybody have any remedies that help get rid of a headache that doesn't want to go?

Pam H 07-04-2012 06:26 AM

Blondeslave, I certainly have experience with migraines - 30+ years. I am on a preventative which has really taken them down a couple of notches; both in frequency and how severe they are. A lot of my minor ones I can ward off with a Pepsi or Dr Pepper. Ones a little more stubborn can be knocked out with Excedrin (or store brand equivalent since they've been recalled). I have a Rx I take for the more severe ones. You might want to call your doctor that gave you the injections. I'm sure the migraines are a pretty common side effect and they would prescribe something. OR maybe your have a strong pain killer left over from a previous surgery that would knock it on it's butt. I hope you are able to get rid of it soon, like today. I'll talk to my daughter, the pharmacist, to see if she has any ideas.

Crystal.........whichever you chose to send. It doesn't matter to me one way or the other.

createfourpaws 07-04-2012 08:01 AM

So what is everyone doing today? I will be working on some embroidered quilt squares. Last night went to my first horse race. Got to see Pat Green in concert and watch some fire works. Had a great time.

Still waiting to hear about a job.

Pam H 07-04-2012 08:10 AM

Cindy, I hope you get a job very soon.
It's too hot here to do anything outdoors. I went and worked in my garden early this morning. Picked a few green beans. Maybe enough for a meal. We are going to a movie this afternoon. My daughter and I will see Magic Mike and hubby will see Ted. Too bad there isn't one we can all agree on.

quilthappygail 07-04-2012 09:44 AM

Happy Independence Day everyone. Be careful in the heat and drink lots of water.
Special thoughts to all those who are suffering with no power in the country and a special thank you and prayers to our military wherever they are today.

nancia 07-04-2012 09:59 AM

i am adding borders to a tumbler quilt. i am using pale pink and aqua for the borders since the quilt has lots of color. i warn you ahead of time, i will post pictures so you'll want to have your sunglasses at your side! i get migraines from bright light--like the light reflected off a shiny part of a car, or a flash of light-- so i've had to be very careful handling this quilt!lol. not laughing at the migraines, i promise. i have had them since i was 13, way long ago! some are disabling, and some are almost like a normal headache and i can continue whatever i was doing, but with limited head movement. i have had several that mimic a stroke, and those are the hardest to deal with. i never know if i should go to the hospital or just wait for the pain to start. i usually get the aura which is quite pretty, but foreboding, then i get 'swiss cheese' vision, and then slam, the pain. the second day i feel like i have a very bad hangover, and it's often worse than the original. then 48 to 24 hrs later, poof! it's gone. some i will get 3 or 4 starts in a day, the whole aura and vision thing. july has always been my toughest month with several every week. i used to take a preventative but it lowers your blood pressure and that makes me pass out. on the VERY positive side, i get fewer now, and may even make it thru july with none!
i know i'm too late to sign up, but i will follow along as you are my friends and i like to know what you're doing and be with you. so good luck to everyone! unless a miracle happens i wouldn't be much of a contender.
cindy, i am sooo jealous you got to see pat green! i love him, but he doesn't tour outside of texas very much. he was in pa a few years ago and i was right in front of him not 3 ft away. yes, i'm old and very happily married, but i still love a good singer, and he is one of the best! place in my heart for him always.

Well said, Gail. I want to quilt today, but I will clean house and venture ouside long enough to water the flowers in pots and walk the dogs. I need to wait until it cools off a bit, but not so late the fireworks start. My poor Lilygirl can't handle fireworks. I used to take my dogs to fireworks displays, but I sure wouldn't this one.

I am starting to count calories today. I've never done that in my life, but it's time to do something. Eat clean, drink water and exercise.
Judy

irishrose 07-04-2012 10:17 AM

nancia, you can sign up if you'd like. I haven't posted the list yet. I think there is power in being part of the group even without hopes of winning. BTW, pm me your address. I didn't sign up in May because I was pouting over not losing weight, but acted like I had, so I'd like to send you a bright FQ. I'm so sorry about your headaches. I used to work in a school computer lab in the afternoon and only teach my remedial reading classes in the morning - not what I was hired for, but as you know in a school settting, nothing is constant except change. One teacher couldn't enter the lab with without starting a migraine so I took her class at the door which was not acceptable to the other teachers as they had to stay in the room with their students. I am not a certified teacher and therefore the teacher was to stay while I taught. I couldn't make them see she wasn't off playing, but doing exactly what they did - correct papers, etc, only in a different setting. Grrr. You have my sympathy and I want to see the quilt. I can't quilt today, so I'll do it vicariously through you.

Vanogay 07-04-2012 02:07 PM

Happy 4th everyone. Congratulations cdmmiracles for losing last month. I lost in June so I'm hoping that is gone for good. We ate rotisserie chicken and salad for our 4th of July dinner and will have watermelon in a little while. My week has been hectic. A rather large quilt store went out of business and closed her doors on Saturday. She donated all the remaining fabric to a non-profit. Our guild is one of two guilds meeting at that non-profit and we were asked to inventory ALL the remaining fabric for them AND to disburse it to different charity guilds in the local area. On Monday, 8 of us worked all day (9-5) counting yardage off each bolt (you know, 2 wraps equal 1 yard) by manufacturer. Then we had to move it all to the non-profit to set up for the next day when the first of 8 groups came in to receive their fabrics. It was set up for each group to get 82 bolts (that's bolts) plus I made each group a notions bag with threads, rulers, patterns and I can't remember what all. I have been so tired - and if it can be true, I'm tired of looking at fabric!!! However, that being said, today I trimmed two quilts for binding, finished 1 block on a quilt of my own and put a binding on a small wallhanger. Guess I'm not that tired of fabric after all. With all that work and tomorrow meeting the last of the groups, I haven't had time to eat - that's a good benefit out of all this. Keep cool everyone.

meanmom 07-04-2012 06:14 PM

I lost pretty good last month:) So far July my weight loss is bad I am sure. I am in Hilton Head with my brother and SIL. Itis really hot but there is a nice breeze coming off of the ocean so it doesn't feel so bad. My SIL eats constantly, so of course I have been too. Tons of bad things and lots of fancy drinks. I am sure I have gained a little as my new shorts are a little snug. We have been getting a lot of exercise. There is water aerobics every morning and yoga. Yesterday we went on a 2 hour kayak trip. We went thru the salt marshes. It was nice. Today we rode our bikes about 10 miles after water aerobics. We also went on a walk along the beach. It is so easy to be lazy here they pick you up in golf carts to take you to the beach. So ice and relaxing. I have to go back to reality on Friday and will behave then. Happy 4th to all.

I had a lovely day yesterday. Glenn and I went to see Magic Mike(I had to agree to see Ted this weekend). It was a fun movie. Then I actually came home and sewed my little watercolor quilt together. I had all of the squares fused on the grid already. It turned out quite cute. I'm thinking of adding borders to make it big enough for a couch throw for Glenn's mom. Not sure though-after sewing it's only 16 X 23. My wee Gracie Allen is utterly fearless until the fireworks start. Then she likes to have her mom. I'm sure in her mind she's protecting me from the big bad fireworks. None of the other hounds even pay attention to the fireworks. Glenn gets a little jealous that she always comes to me when the noise starts.

meanmom 07-05-2012 03:45 AM

My daughter had a lot of trouble with migraines a few years ago. The doctor sent her to a headache clinic. They suggested a caffeinated drink with Excedrin migraine. Followed by tons of Gatoraide or poweraide or something like that. Up to a gallon. They said most migraines are caused by fluid leaking out of the blood vessels in your head and all of the electrolites in the gatoraide would help to fix this. Good luck getting rid of your headaches. My migraines seem to have gone away with menopause.

July FQ challenge participants: Let'see if we can get our quarters in on time this month. For me, it's just so easy to continuously forget when I leave the house.

Post often and consider posting a goal somewhere - mine is on my calendar. No one but me knows what the big 2 is - I want to lose 2 pounds this month. I am actually considering posting my weight right here every day. I certainly need to be more accountable. No, you do not have to do it, too. What you do need to do is plan. A former leader told us "If you want to meet a goal, you have to have a plan. Failure to plan means planning to fail." Planning begins in the grocery store or fresh food market. If you don't bring the chips or whatever your weakness is into the house, then it won't be in the house when a snack attack hits, but the apple will.

Off to clean - I'd rather be quilting.
Judy

Konnie 07-06-2012 04:28 AM

Truer words were never posted! I had pringles in the cupboard callling my name. They went into the trash! I live alone so anything in my cupboards was put there by me! I need to be more accountable while grocery shopping.
went to a cookout on the 4th and did very well
but I planned for that. I knew ahead of time what I would allow myself to eat and it worked. Need to do that planning everyday! Stay cool everyone and drink lots of water.

Pam H 07-06-2012 06:56 AM

I might have a hard time in the snack department for a while. I am buying every little thing that my daughter wants to eat or that I think she might want to eat. I AM NOT going to gain weight because she is pregnant! It should improve a little when she moves out in 2 weeks. But maybe not. Her hubby will be working pm's so she will probably be at our house most evenings.
One more day of this heat in the midwest. Looks like I will survive.

brenda21 07-06-2012 07:01 AM

back on track with walking now that a/c has been fixed and house is back to normal...already mailed my blue fabric to Cindy and cdm yours is in the mail for June. I'm working on three doll quilts rights now...first one just needs binding. Weather is SO HOT here in Texas! Going to try and get quite a bit of sewing finished this weekend.

nancia 07-06-2012 07:12 AM

i went to a baseball game last night. what fun! our team lost, 6 to 1. the pitchers just couldn't make it happen. i was sooo good. i told myself i could have 1 kosher hot dog with relish, mustard and ketchup, and a cold drink. and that's exactly what i did! no ice cream, no p'nuts, no cracker jacks. ooo, i think i sprained my arm patting myself on the back!:o:D. i did splurge and bought a couple trenton thunder t-shirts. we have another game coming up!
my other big news--- my brother se400 arrived! my friend vicky packed the box chockful of goodies! now, if i can find a place to put everything-- and how to use the machine--i will go to town! i bought a new bookcase to hold all the stuff my other bookcases can't manage! i'm sending vicky my serger since she has a friend who needs one. it's still in the original box, unopened, from 20+ yrs ago when i bought it. i hope it works! i'm pretty sure the warranty is up!:D i'm just glad it will be used and appreciated. well, ladies, i'm back to reading about my new machine ! talk to you later!
brenda-- it's hot here too! reminds me of home:). so glad we have a/c! my poor sister is sweltering in dc with no electricity since friday or saturday. she's the kind who always has a freezer full of food, all garbage now! on the plus side, she works in an air conditioned office. bet she's working overtime!:)

irishrose 07-06-2012 12:40 PM

Great job planning and sticking to it, Nanci. Is that an embroidery machine? I think my serger is broken. It likes to break lower loopers. You get what you pay for and I went low on that one, though I did get a lot of use out of it in the past.

I went to a lily farm with my dark skinned daughter. It's 95 or so out there. The owner said umbrellas are mandatory today. K said no. The woman looked at me and said there's no option for you with that fair skin. I still am burned a little, but I have three new lilies to find spots for. K has many. Her fire last year destroyed so much of her landscaping that she's had to start over in several areas.

I have a love/hate relationship with AC. Love the cool although I hate the house closed up, but with a history of congestive heart fauilure it's not an option. The air is on. What's for dinner? Right now I can't think of anything I want except sugary things and that won't do. Salmon? That will do.

I am losing weight and getting healthier.
Judy

Greetings!!! We had almost 2" of rain last night - my lawn looks wonderful again. (green like it should at this time of year).

Working on a UFO and I need advice. I am doing a braided border because it needed something. On the right is just the 4 fabrics from the squares. On the left is the 4 fabrics plus the one I used for a small border. Which would you go with?

Eating hasn't been to bad the last days. I did have a small loss and if I can keep this up it will be great. I am still adding extra fiber to meals and finally seems to be working. So take care and be good to you!!!

Pam H 07-06-2012 03:29 PM

I think I would prefer it without the white border fabric. I can pm my address. I see it say's Pam's Christmas throw. LOL
I'm off to the store to get some things for dinner. We are having green beans (from my garden!), corn on the cob and watermelon. I suppose we will need some meat to go along with it. Since hubby doesn't mind this heat, I will let him grill tonight.

irishrose 07-06-2012 03:58 PM

Pam, I just went out and straightened the black roofed shed in this heat. My GD has had a change of plans and will staying with me for a few weeks. The problem is, the guest room has become a junk room. My wheelchair and rolling walker are so bulky they had to go. Now I have to water the flowers in the pots and walk the dogs. Geez, it sounds like I'm whining. Nah, I have a nice cool house to come back to. I'm glad the car has AC, too. I have to make a 200 mi RT to pick her up at the airport tomorrow.

I had a grilled cheese sandwich and green beans. I will have raspberries later. That's about all I have time for.

nancia 07-06-2012 10:56 PM

everose-- i'd use the fabrics on my right ( no light color). it sure is pretty!

THIS IS A HEALTH ADVISORY! TAKE HEED! july is national ice cream month. i feel unpatriotic not eating any. is that treasonous ? please take care, you could be caught unawares by a blue bunny! or get stuck in a breyer's patch! and when your not expecting it you could be mugged by ben and jerry! ooo, i've been haagen daaz like that! ( by now you should be so nauseated by the puns you won't want any ice cream for the next 24 days!) don't need to thank me, it's all in a daaz work:D

and yes, the machine is an embroidery machine as well as a sewing machine. it has an lcd screen and some bells, and whistles. but i still haven't come to the part where you set it up to do a 10 color design. o, and i don't have the right thread and stabilizers. yikes! it's a whole new w:eek:rld!!
