Tink's Mom 07-23-2011 01:41 AM

First, I spend 3 hours trying to get Tink to stop pacing the floors...it was storming. Lots of thunder and lightning...so I ended up rocking, cuddling, just trying to get her to go to bed...
I just get her to lay down and was going to try to close my eyes....and my hubby yells from our basement..."We're flooding"
We have flood control...so we haven't flooded in 20 years. Our sump must have failed or the valve is stuck in the open position.

We have a finished basement...and 2 bedrooms down there, plus the family room. My husband found out about the water when he got up to go to the bathroom. He had about 2 inches in his bedroom, the family room rug is ruined...but I wanted a new one anyhow....but not this way.
It is now 4:30 in the morning and I still haven't gone to sleep. This is going to be a long day.
He got irritated at me while we were picking things up. I left his side and went into the other bedroom and picked up the bolt of warm and natural that I was storing in there. It is dry...I had it in a high corner. :D
When the sun comes up...the sewer cover in our front lawn that covers the flood control, will be coming up to see what the problem is. I just hoping that all that's needed is a new sump...but I don't know why we didn't get an alert that it was failing.
Oh well...the basement did need a good scrubbing...but not at 4 am.

How awful for you - will insurance cover the damage? I hope so. (((((((Hugs)))))))))))

That is never a good thing.

So, so, sorry to hear that sad story. I to hope and pray your home owners will cover the damage. That doesn't mean they cover the hard work you had to put in.

My heart goes out to you and best of luck.

I'm so sorry for you..... that's a lot of work to clean it all up....

mom-6 07-23-2011 03:37 AM

This must be the week for it! We had a similar situation at the candle shop. Still haven't figured out for sure exactly how it happened as it hadn't rained. Had to be from the water hose near the front door, but still weird. Luckily nothing was damaged except cardboard boxes. But mopping up and getting product out of wet boxes and into dry ones took half the day. Like you we had intended to do major cleaning but not that way! And not till next week after we had all Jerry's stuff for the New York Renaissance Festival out.
Now take a deep breath and be thankful you found it before everything got ruined! Then go take a nap.

we just finsihed with the the aftermath of our basement flood. So I know what you are going through. Hopefully the process is smooth for you.

While I feel for you cause I've been there, I'm 70 miles south and I was praying for some of that rain. It's been ... don't remember how many weeks since we've had any rain to speak of. I'm expecting to see heavy losses in the corn and soy around here.

Best of luck with the cleanup and getting the problem fixed.
