I just got a new Kindle and am trying to find free books to download. Can anyone help me figure out how to do this? I think I will love it, but after being used to free books at the library I hate to pay. Thanks.

Kkimberlee 06-01-2011 01:09 PM

Go to amazon, search Kindle Store for free books.

That is how I have done it, but I am not reading much with the two kiddos right now, so I haven't gone through the free books yet, LOL!

mucky 06-01-2011 01:12 PM

Every time I do that I get a list of books to buy that tell me where the free book websites are. I must not be searching correctly.

Kkimberlee 06-01-2011 01:12 PM

You can also find an author, get a list of their books, and then sort by price: low to high. Any books they have availble for free will be at the top of the list.

Publishers rotate their free books, and so you might get different free ones depending when you search in the month.

mucky 06-01-2011 01:15 PM

Thanks.

quiltsRfun 06-01-2011 01:15 PM

Google free kindle downloads.

Kkimberlee 06-01-2011 01:17 PM

The nice thing about amazon is that once you set it up, you can do a one-click puchase that will load the book onto your device {I use the kindle program on my iPhone} the next time you open the device and it has wifi. Makes buying freebies easy and quick. Remember they are digital and you can delete them just as easily if you don't like them in the first 5 to 10 pages.

sandilee 06-01-2011 01:42 PM

I googled "free ebooks" and it gave me a list of networks to go to. They also send you updates thru emails to keep you updated. If you wish to discontinue these updates just click on "unsubscribe" at the bottom of email.

SharBear 06-01-2011 01:47 PM

I have found that I can search easier logged in to Amazon and sending the books to my Kindle. If you go here ...

http://www.amazon.com/b/ref=amb_link...d_i=1286228011

You can get to free book collections. I read in the Wall Street Journal that there will be an update to Kindle software by the end of the year that allows e-books to be borrowed from the library! Yippee!

raedar63 06-01-2011 01:48 PM

My library that I download audiobooks from also has E-books. Search E-books as some places also call them ebook. I thought about a kindle but since I discovered free audio books I sure get a lot more done. I am one of those that will NOT put a book down till it is finished. Too bad I am not like this with sewing lol

MzMcKee 06-01-2011 01:51 PM

While on your kindle make the following selections :
Menu
Shop in Kindle Store (you may need to turn on your wifi)
Under Featured select Kindle Top Sellers (it will list the top 100 paid books)
Look in the upper right hand corner and see "Kindle Top 100 Free" using the buttons select this option.
TaDa! ;)

mucky 06-01-2011 02:02 PM

Yes, I heard September. I can't wait.

mucky 06-01-2011 02:02 PM

Wow, that sounds like a winner and will do as soon as I can. I knew I'd get an answer here.

Try kindle.com and look for the drop down menu for free books.

Joanie2 06-01-2011 03:48 PM

Sign up for Pixels of Ink to get free daily books. I check every day about 2. Have downloaded about 130 books so far.
Great site.

Scraps 06-01-2011 04:37 PM

Remember to turn on WiFi for shopping for books AND to turn it OFF when done or your battery will run down quickly. Otherwise, your battery charge will last a few weeks. Yes, I learned the hard way :-)

Great site.

I was going to suggest this site. I check it daily.

merchjag 06-02-2011 03:21 AM

you can get free books for the kindle also-just have to look. If you don't have wifii, it's hard to download. I have a Mac and after an hour with the geek squad -I just said I'll download it at Paneras where they havewifi-I like my Kindle but I still buy some books because they just feel better in my hands. ;-)

zelda2 06-02-2011 04:44 AM

our local library belongs to a much larger group (our town is only 8,000) and the network has many free ebooks, just ask at your library.

I had purchased the Nook and returned it because I wasn't impressed with the free books and wasn't willing to buy books. Our former library director goes to the Guttenburg website for free books. These are the classics.

Elizabeth in Texas 06-02-2011 05:51 AM

I subscribe to Kindle Nation Daily. They list all new free books on a twice daily basis. There is also a link for bargain books.

I love my kindle! I'm looking forward to the upgrade later this year that will allow us to "borrow" library books.

melissacross 06-02-2011 07:57 AM

I go to Barnes and Noble they have a lot of free and some very cheap e-books there

KSellers 06-02-2011 08:09 AM

Many libraries have downloadable books now, so you should inquire.

Susie42quilter 06-02-2011 08:42 AM

Try these: girlebooks.com; http://www.smashwords.com; free

bookspot.com;1001books.com; diesel-ebooks.com;readprint.com; ccel.org; bookyards.com; worldlibrary.net; feedbooks.com; munseys.com; manybooks.net
(kindle format*azw); gutenberg.org; some of these you need to register, which is free, some you need to select mobi, for it to be readable on the kindle, some you select e-books format. Hope this gets you started, good luck. Happy reading

mucky 06-02-2011 09:00 AM

Do I go to these websites on my Kindle or on my computer?

Roberta 06-02-2011 09:06 AM

Free books most every day on the Knob.com. I believe that's the name of the site and I'd send you their email but I didn't receive mine yet today.

They have free deals for Kindle and Nook plus some really inexpensive books. I download from there all the time.

zelda2 06-02-2011 09:32 AM

you can do either way

Our local library has downloads for the Kindle. Check with your library.

mucky 06-02-2011 09:59 AM

Kindle doesn't have the software as of yet to do that. Supposedly coming soon.

macygma 06-02-2011 11:29 AM

our Library here has free downloads. I don't know if you can sign up online but the site is:

my PC and read from the PC?Would I need a special
something on the PC? Also want to listen to talking
books on PC..from downloads. Info appreciated.

Quiltbeagle 06-02-2011 12:49 PM

You can go to the Amazon site and click on the Kindle tab...then over on the right side of the page click on the free stuff, but this is much better... Here is a link that you need to check every day (or even twice a day). This guy puts free books on this blog from the Amazon site as well as off site that can be downloaded into your Kindle. He has the same information on a blog that you can subscribe to (and pay for) through Amazon by the month, but this is his direct webblog address:

http://fkbt.wordpress.com/

I've probably gotten over $500 worth of books free with the help of his site since January. LOVE my Kindle!

gramquilter2 06-02-2011 03:56 PM

You can download e-books from the public library.

QandE2010 06-02-2011 05:18 PM

You can just log onto your internet browser, then go to this website, which lists the top 100 free books and the top 100 best sellers.

Go to: http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom...deId=200388510
This is Amazon / Kindle support and it instructs you how to read Kindle material on your PC. (And has lots of other good information) Check it out

Gatormom3 06-02-2011 05:55 PM

Go to www.ereadernewstoday.com and sign up (free) for their daily emails. They alert you to free and low cost books via email and they are also on Facebook. Great source for free books.

genafan201 06-02-2011 06:28 PM

ereaderiq.com is a really good site also...you can track freebies, new to kindle books, and price discounts.
