Some may remember back in 2010 I did a $120.00 DYI of my ugly kitchen until we could afford to have it totally redone. I had those ugly 1970 lamimate cabinets, old appliances, laminate countertops...well my redo was awesome, painted the cabinets white with special cabinet paint, sprayed my countertops and then coated them with clear poyurathine (how ever that is spelled) put on knobs and lasted 4 years and even would be longer, but we saved, and saved and decided to finally do another upgrade, which will be our last oh just FYI...thae 20.00 countertop that I sprayed with stone paint still looked good...the contractors were amazed and counld not believe how real they looked. Well here we go.....Day 1 - Clean out day, took off knobs, cleanned out drawers, counters and ready to contractors.

Day 2 - this was what I cam home to after work...they found two dead mice, thankfully they got rid of them before I got home. Appliances in my livingroom. I have to admit though they were clean...all dust and everything removed...they had a dump truck ready and took it all away.

Day 3
Day 5 - I skipped a day...it them putting in the new lights and bringing in the cabinets but they were not installed yet

carolaug 06-15-2013 09:08 PM

Day 6 they removed the fan and rewired it so its not in my livingroom...LOVE it - Day 7 more shopping...we ordered a new diningroom light, light for about the sink. I think Monday they will start on the floor and order the granite countertops. Still a lot of work to go, but so far its going very fast.

calano1 06-15-2013 11:41 PM

Total transformation ...it does not even look like the same kitchen! :shock:Love the new cabinets! Enjoy your new kitchen!!!

carolaug 06-16-2013 02:38 AM

I can tell I was on pain killer with my post...the fan is now in the livingroom and love it. Not getting much sleep I have a shot in the shoulder due to frozen shoulder. this is day three and still in lots of pain and no sleep. I was hope every few hours. Oh well...hope you enjoy the progress of the kitchen. I can't wait till my house is back in order.

Tartan 06-16-2013 03:31 AM

Looking good! My sympathy for the messed up shoulder. I mess mine up last year and it took most of the year to almost heal. I still have to be careful not to overuse it but at least the excruciating/not being able to sleep has passed.

alwayslearning 06-16-2013 04:23 AM

Boy, can I have your old cabinets? Sure are better than mine! Congratulations on the new kitchen. Hoe you heal quickly.

Joset 06-16-2013 04:55 AM

that looks so nice you will love it

this was what the cabinets looked like before i painted the white and added knobs. I miss my white redo that was only 120.00 but can't wait for this new kitchen. Its like a whole new house.

QuiltnNan 06-16-2013 01:17 PM

great transformation! you have given me an idea for my upcoming kitchen redo... i would have replaced all of the dry wall... but i see that i only have to do the middle :)

Cyn 06-16-2013 01:27 PM

I can't wait to see the finished project. It's looking awesome!

Jan in VA 06-16-2013 02:08 PM

Wow! That's all I can say, wow!
I've lived through a kitchen remodel, barely, but also was pleased afterwards.
Yours looks really great! Good job.

Jingle 06-16-2013 03:33 PM

We have done lots of re-dos of everything. Several times have lived here 44yrs. I always hate the mess but, love the finished. Like everyone else.

Nonna Judi 06-17-2013 04:55 AM

Amazing transformation! Please keep us posted with pictures of the finished room. I did this several years ago. It just changes your life!

janegb 06-17-2013 05:11 AM

Great looking kitchen, lots more cabinet space!

tessagin 06-17-2013 05:27 AM

Your kitchen looks good. Can't wait to see your completed kitchen and I know what you mean. My DH and I redid our kitchen and nothing as extensive as yours. Well maybe. I needed more space than a rental would let me have. This was before I got my real estate license. He took a shipping crate and turned it into a cabinet. The counter was bigger than the base counter at the sink. he added cabinets above and pantry along the side with lower cabinet for step stool and waste basket. We only did this because he thought he was going to purchase the house. Nothing in writing. Like I stated this was before I got my license. We were combining to house holds. Took us 4 months of after work and weekends. Will never attempt again.

raynhamquilter 06-17-2013 09:39 AM

Looking good. We are a revamp done. It is chaotic, but I love the new granite. Keep us posted.

IrishgalfromNJ 06-17-2013 09:55 AM

Looks like you are getting some extra storage space. Nice job.

MothrNatr 06-17-2013 05:29 PM

Your first redo looked really nice. It is a pain to get the kitchen redone, but when I did it I planned out the extra outlets that I thought I needed...still wished I would have made some double. Best thing I did - undercabinet florecent lights for tasks and they are great to leave on when one is coming home late.

Your pics are great - you will love it when it is done and everything is new!

Middle of week two...The excitement is replaced with mess and stress...its coming along and they are doing a wonderful job and really doing it right...but its taking a long time...I am glad he is doing it the right way really..but really would like my house back...think 2-3 more weeks to go...aurgh....tired of take out food or going out to eat after a long day at work. Oh well...I need to relax...here is the progress from yesterday...oh and they patched the livingroom walls from the holes they needed to make for the electrical wires for the fan that was installed.

Hang in there....we had ours re-done a while ago....had to cook outside under the patio (good job I insisted it be done in summer:)). Looks fantastic....love the floor (and the cat).

omacookie 06-20-2013 03:09 AM

I see that the inspector has done his job. Now to finish it and get a home cooked meal. I know the pain of a schoulder injury. Had one a few years ago and it took much time to heal. Also be careful and DO NOT over do it. PS The Kitchen is looking good. Almost like HGTV makeovers ! Hugs

luvstoquilt 06-20-2013 07:03 AM

I am a remodel finatic...I LOVE a project and have redone my kitchen several times...I would "flip" houses if I was wealthy enough to do that. I envy you your project...it is looking amazing! Love your inspector, too. The thing I hate most in any home restoration is working on the center hallway...it seems to ruin the whole house for me until it is finished and I swear there is a tiny machine somewhere that manufactures white powered dust that settles on every square inch in the house!

carolaug 06-20-2013 04:23 PM

I agree about summer...thank goodness we did not do this in the winter. The floor is almost laid...tomorrow they will finish and grout. I had then do it offsite so its taking longer and run out of tile thankfully they had more at the store. Then two days will not walking on the floor. I am hoping the appliances can get moved out of my livingroom next week. I think my cats are getting tired of all the work and want there home back too...hopefully two more weeks till its done...ok maybe I am dreaming...

Well the floors are done and look great...but the contractos have not been back since Tuesday...little upset about that...appliances still in my livingroom...aurgh...they will be here on Monday, I hope. I want contractors hours...work when they feel like it...this is a very expensive job...the countertop goes in on July 8th I hope...and then they will finish up that week..fingers crossed.

MamaBear61 07-09-2013 03:33 PM

leaha 07-10-2013 03:33 PM

you have no idea how lucky you are, days a couple of weeks? I have lived in this house a year, and 4 months, and ALL that time we have been working on our house, the contractor, came every day after he got off work at home Depot, I went months on end with no kitchen, not having my home to me, with dust, LOL oh you know all of it. Now my contractor is out of work for at least 2 months, Had an operation, and he has some things to finish up here. So maybe some time in Sept. he will come back and finish. I live with hope, LOL

leaha 07-10-2013 03:34 PM

by the by, your kitchen looks fab!!

carolaug 07-10-2013 03:41 PM

We contracted Lowes to do the work. The designer was/is incredible! Thank goodness we have Lowes to call and complain to when the contractors do not show up...it has been a huge help. We have been using Lowes for all kinds of house improvements and if something is not right its great to be able to call them and let them deal with the contractors and they do...and they do come back if any issues arise later. I would recommend Lowes as the place to have when doing house improvements projects.

mike'sgirl 07-12-2013 10:45 AM

I love the whole thing, looks great, but I really like the wrap around cabinets next to the fridge. That is really nice. I haven't seen that before. We are looking at buying a house this winter that needs a new kitchen. Might look at yours as an idea for ours. Hope you shoulder is better. Gina

pal 07-12-2013 11:10 AM

Oh, your kitchen is gorgeous!!!!!!!! We are about to begin the process of having our kitchen redone - we've picked out the cabinets and gotten a new floor plan - but, in the end, I will still have a mini-kitchen that will cost 3 times the amount we paid for the house 45 years ago. So we would gain cabinet & counter space but still have a tiny kitchen. What to do, what to do?? But now that I've seen how beautiful yous is I have hope.

Annie68 07-12-2013 11:16 AM

Oooh, that is a beautiful kitchen, and worth all the inconvenience of the redo, right?

On the right side of the botton is the trash cans, trash bag holder also on the right side where the cat food go, both have pull out, which is awesome. In the drawers coffe and tea. Almost done..can't wait until the frame and curtains get installs.

BMP 07-12-2013 12:43 PM
