Linda, where are you?

My name is Linda. My mother said that when I was born it was the most popular name in the nation. This being due to a beautiful actress, Linda Darnell.

I was wondering how many Linda's we have here. Everywhere I go there are lots of Linda's my age (in the 60 something range). Not so many young Linda's, though.

So if you are a Linda which is Spanish for Beautiful BTW sound out!

LindaM 08-18-2012 11:58 AM

Here! A few Linda's even in my small country school growing up - my best friend was also a Linda.

At my job now, we had a running joke that you either had to be Linda or Kathy to work there - we had many multiples!

Nanamoms 08-18-2012 02:42 PM

My first name is Lynda, spell with the "y"...does that count? I'm in the 60 something group!!

luvTooQuilt 08-18-2012 02:51 PM

scrappy2 08-19-2012 03:33 AM

A Linda here too.

Learner747 08-19-2012 10:21 AM

Hi. Ladies! It is nice to meet you. Over the years I actually had a little baby named after me. I am so humbled. :o In our area I know of four Linda's with not only my first name but also my last name. Lots of confusion at the doctor's office, bank, and mail. :D

Alice Woodhull 08-20-2012 04:05 AM

I chose Linda for my daughter born 50 years ago this year. I liked the name then and still do. I was torn between Linda and Brenda, but the family already had a Brenda, so I stuck with Linda. She likes the name too.

lovelyl 08-20-2012 04:19 AM

Another Linda here! My dad picked my name for me. I just hit the 60's group last Nov. Growing up, every year in school there were at least 3 or 4 girls named Linda in my class. I taught for 27 years and never had a Linda in any of my classes. I wonder why the name fell out of popularity?

SuzzyQ 08-20-2012 04:37 AM

Another Linda present!
I ws the only "Linda" in my small rural school till I was in Grade 5 when a family moved into the neighbourhood with a nother Linda. Mom named me after her aunt MeLinda.
No more Linda's after me in my family but my daughter and DIL are .... Lyn or Lynn & they also passed on their name & spelling as a second name to my grand daughters.

Linda OH 08-20-2012 04:57 AM

Another Linda checking in! There were 5 named Linda in my small class of 68 students.

SewExtremeSeams 08-20-2012 05:11 AM

Checking in! DH and I are Lynn & Linda! We laugh when mail is addressed to Ms. Lynn :D:D

When I was a homeschool Mom years ago there were always lots of moms named Linda in my support groups.

Nice to meet the rest of you.

kydeb 08-20-2012 05:47 AM

My older sister's name is Linda Darnell :) and yes, the name came from the actress!

nanOmint 08-20-2012 06:18 AM

When I was in high school 55 years ago, I became aware of a lot of baby girls being named Lynn or Linda. I determined that some day I would like to have a baby Linda. And so my first born is named 'Virginia Mylynn' affectionatly referred to as 'Ginny Lynn'.

lmw54 08-20-2012 07:20 AM

I'm a Linda and I'm 58

bglock1 08-20-2012 07:25 AM

My mom is "Belinda" and she is also 58! Growing up everyone called her Linda. Now people call her, by mistake, Brenda, Glenda, Melinda and anything else close to that. At her work there is a Melinda and a Linda, also her age.

Tigger 08-20-2012 07:27 AM

Another Linda here in the 60's age group.

Iraxy 08-20-2012 08:14 AM

Yes, it does. And, I can still hear my Grandma Chula say in her high voice, "Linda (she pronounced it Leeenda), Linda, Linda... que bonita! when she saw me with her sweet hands on my cheeks. I miss her so much. :)

I wonder why the name fell out of popularity?[/QUOTE]

I think names go by generation. Often the names that were popular in our grandmothers' generation are chosen for our babies. I notice some new babies being names Audrey and Agnes, which were popular in my mother's generation. I am a 60-something named Linda, after Linda Darnell....she must have been one-great-actress to have so many of us named for her! Did you know there is a Linda Club? http://lindaclub.org/ Linda in Ky

linhawk 08-20-2012 08:45 AM

Here I am
1940

drgranny 08-20-2012 09:41 AM

Here I am! There were 5 lindas in my small high school so we all went by first and last name. There is another Linda in our town with my last name. We go to the same doctors. Also I have a sister in law with the same first and last name. Middle initial is also the same.

dirty1mom 08-20-2012 10:03 AM

Hi! I am Linda, age 59

lyndaloo 08-20-2012 10:28 AM

I'm Lynda, born in 1945. There were 8 Linda's in my 8th grade PE class of maybe 40 girls!

damaquilts 08-20-2012 10:40 AM

I am not named Linda but I do have a friend named Linda and yes she is in that age group

Halo 08-20-2012 11:03 AM

Count me in. I'm a Linda in my 60's. Had several Linda's in my school & know lots of Linda's in my area. Most are close to my age.

carolynjo 08-20-2012 12:07 PM

When I taught school, I had 7 Debbies (Debbie Reynolds) in one class. One Debbie told me there were 15 Debbies in her home ec class! So, Lindas, enjoy your uniqueness.

lfstamper 08-20-2012 12:09 PM

Another Linda but not 60 until next May...lol.

quilter1 08-20-2012 12:14 PM

I'm a Lynne but my Mom spelled it Lynn- does that count? Same generation too- I am 58.

Navy Wife 08-20-2012 12:25 PM

Another Linda here! But I'm a lot older at nearly 75. I never asked Mama why she named me that!

mammab 08-20-2012 01:02 PM

When I was in middle school, in one of my classes there were 5 Linda's, the first 4 names on the roster were Linda with last names beginning with A, B, C and D. And my mother thought the name was not so common.

missgigglewings 08-20-2012 01:07 PM

My younger sister's name is Linda Darlene...yes, named after the actress! she's a quilter in Illinois, but doesn't do the on-line stuff!

laurlync 08-20-2012 01:17 PM

My mother's name is Linda and she is in her early 60's. She said there were so many Lindas in her class, she wanted something "different" for me. I was born prematurely and she didn't have a name picked out yet, but after just a few days she came up with the name Laurlyn. Not many of us around for sure!! LOL

Ccorazone 08-20-2012 02:02 PM

I have both a cousin and sister-in-law named Linda. Both over 60

sew-many-things 08-20-2012 03:52 PM

Here I am, another Linda. The name was very popular in the 1940's.

linkd 08-20-2012 04:26 PM

Another "Linda" here too, born in 1949, dropped the 'duh' when I was about 14. I just go by Lin now. growing up in Southern California, I was the only Linda in my class (large) class. We had a Belinda and a Melinda, and even a Jolinda. The 2 classes ahead of me were 'linda' packed however. I guess out near Hollywood the trend peaked earlier.

However, there were 3 of us girls that shared the same birthday. Sandy and Sharon were twins and I was older than one and younger than the other.

linda faye 08-20-2012 04:30 PM

Joining the group.....Linda.....late 60's....grew up and went to school with Linda Kaye and I am Linda Faye.

There were three Lindas at the TX campground last winter and we were all parked next to each other. Fun! :)

Linda C 08-20-2012 04:41 PM

My name is Linda. I was born 2/16/1940. I have met a lot of Linda's, but none as old as I am. Mom said she saw the name in the newspaper and liked it. I like my name.

quilter41 08-20-2012 04:59 PM

My name is Linda and I am older than 60 (2/12/1941). I really don't like the name, but I am stuck. In 4th grade there were five of us. How confusing.
