Jan in VA 07-16-2011 06:14 AM

This morning in mid-July, barely 10a.m., the sky is high overcast but bright, and the temps are not yet into the 70s.

All my doors and windows are open; the AC is off, the refrigerator is quiet, there is silence in the cottage.

But outside the birds are singing their songs, the crows are cawing, a few crickets are chirping, a distant cow lowing for her baby.

I'm sitting on the porch with the laptop in my lap, listening, in awe, only my breathing and the click of the keys occasionally......

What a lovely, peaceful, restorative morning. Praises!

What a wonderful day. Reminds me of a favorite Hymn..."Priase God from whom all blessings flow..."

genafan201 07-16-2011 06:26 AM

Jan, you are in one of the most beautiful areas of the country, IMHO. Enjoy your day!

I agree, life is beautiful and peaceful like that here in VT as well, but if I had to move it would be to your area.

annyroony2 07-16-2011 04:53 PM

You are in a wonderful part of our great country. It was a great morning to be out and about.

true4uca 07-16-2011 05:15 PM

On the other side we have 58-60 pouring rain. Having stew for dinner (winter comfort food). Usually too hot&dry (read forest fires) at this time to go camping. This year too wet.LOL.

amandasgramma 07-16-2011 05:41 PM

We have mornings like this, too. I absolutely LOVE it. We have very tall Lodgepole Pine and Ponderosa Pines around our property. I love to stop and listen to the breeze/wind blowing through them.........aaaaaaaahhhhhhhh Life is good!

OmaForFour 07-17-2011 03:28 AM

The sun is shining, the temp is not yet 70, the windows are open and the fans are off. The birds and crows are singing. No cars are passing by the house to bring people to work at the lab down the street. The air smells fresh and sweet and the cool light breeze is from the ocean over the hill. Dogs and husband are still asleep. This is a heavenly time of day. I am looking through today's QB as I look out on the sunshine and flower garden here in MAINE.

AliceQ 07-17-2011 04:27 AM

Oh how I love living in the country. It's awesome when I'm hanging laundry and the only sounds are the birds and the bark of a neighbor's dog. What a life! I'm sooo blessed!

I forgot....the occasional clip clop of a horse and buggy going by.

callie72va 07-17-2011 04:30 AM

You are so right, It is exactly the same over here in the Valley outside of Lexington.

Yooper32 07-17-2011 04:49 AM

Over here in WV, I know just what you mean. I haven't had the AC on for 3 days now, there has been enough breeze coming through that the only sounds here are the birds, my daughters cow and calf and the newest herd-mates, 11 sheep. They are quite noisy at times however. The horses are down the ridge now and they are pretty quiet all the time and the goats are so intimidated by the cow and the sheep that they have shut up pretty much. Ah, the peace. PS, how could I forget, the noise gets to quite a high level when the Guinies are startled, however. I have never heard such noise-makers.

jad1044 07-17-2011 06:36 AM

Wish I were there - woke up to 75* and windows steamed over from a/c on and so humid outside - a yucky day in store for here! Lucky lady you are - I envy you!

jbud2 07-17-2011 07:47 AM

I love to turn off the A/C and open the windows! Even though we have a filter system on the unit, I still think the house smells stale.

Funniest thing to me was last week my 4 year old GD was sitting in the bathroom doing her thing, window open, and she says "listen Grams. Hear that bird? It must be a blue jay or a hawk." Wow, you must have been talking to your Granpa!

GladGrams 07-17-2011 09:15 AM

Wait, I can't smell the fresh coffee

sak658 07-17-2011 09:19 AM

93 already here, but we did finally got some showers yesterday. Been a long time coming..

valsma 07-17-2011 09:22 AM

I love days like that.

JudieRQuilting 07-17-2011 09:24 AM

I would like to be there on the porch with you. It sounds lovely. However, it's not bad here in Oregon. We have had rain all week-end but I don't mind at all because the yard and flowers get watered and the birds can take a bath.

I celebrate the beauty God created!

mzmama 07-17-2011 09:36 AM

I remember those days while living in way Northen Virginia. I called it the top of the world.

Thank you for sharing Jan. Your thoughts bring up memories of my childhood when I would lay in deep grass on a summers afternoon watching the big puffy white clouds float by trying to make images in the clouds. Only the sounds of crickets calling to one another and the cows calling to be let into the barn for their evening milking. As I lay day dreaming the afternoon away.

luce321 07-17-2011 11:03 AM

Wish we had that kind of weather. The last month here has been so hot and no rain for sometime. About a week ago it started raining everyday and that has brought the temperature down some. Our A/C runs all the time.

Katts 14 07-17-2011 11:04 AM

What a wonderful way to start your morning.

Pam B 07-17-2011 11:13 AM

Sounds wonderful! Don't you just love mornings like that?!! You have a beautiful state to live in.

Teresa 54 07-17-2011 01:13 PM

I sat with my coffee and the newspaper with my dog Rosie at my side, we watch he birds, the squirrels and a ground hog all eating sunflower seeds from the feeder, all in peace eating together.
