At 2:30 this morning, my service dog started barking like a maniac. DH got up to let him out, but King wanted out the front door, so DH went out with him (no fence on this side). King chased some guy away from DH's truck. Yep, gotta get a dog. My King is a big friendly dog, until you break the 'His' property rules. I bet that guy is still running. :mrgreen:

We use ADT and have for many years. We are very satisfied and the nicest feature for me is the fire alarm which will alert the fire department as soon as smoke triggers it it we're not at home. To me that's important because by the time neighbors see the smoke or flames from the outside, the interior might be a total loss.

We can set it for "Stay" or "Away" the difference being that with "Stay" we can move around the house while the windows an doors remain activated.

The only "flase alarm" we had was when we first got it and set it for the full system, including the motion detector, and left for some appointments. We forgot about the cockateil who enjoyed full feathers - got spooked and flew through the motion detector. The police arrived and checked out the houes....so we knew it worked as it was designed to. Nothing since.

We also have a home safe. All valuable papers are kept in small accordian files. Jewelry and back up cds of all my digital photos are also tucked away.

When we put our ADT system in the contract stated that they would install another system with no installation charges in any other house we bought - primary residence. I don't know if they still offer this.

That is true!! Little busybody dogs bark at anything unusual.
They dance around and bite too!
I can hear the neighbors rat terrier/two houses away!

Just be careful and train the dog not to bark at cats, other dogs, things that are ordinary. Too many alarms do not work either.

Your neighbors! My 90 year old neighbor knows everyone who drives by or walks around.

I kinda like Smith & Wesson.....we use it.

I had a police officer stop by hear not ong ago, he was investigating a break-in a couple of doors down and wanted to know if I'd seen anything suspicious. I live in the country and cannot see my neighbors so he was out of lck on that one, but he sure did note the big BEWARE OF DOG sign on the garage that you can see from the road and said, "Well I doubt anyone with ill intent would have come down your drive seeing that sign" And I do have two dogs to back up the sign...a boxer that lives indoors, and a very large Malimute Husky that lives outdoors. I don't think we have to worry much

CAUTION: Forget the dog. Beware of owner!
I can't run, I do bite, have had my rabies shot, and I carry a big a** gun.
