I've been working on different items like embroidery, hexies and yo yos. And some needle point. I got a couple small patterns of needle point at an estate sale and one box had the hoops. Looking at them and working on those a little at a time.

When I can't quilt, I either read books or watch documentaries on YouTube. I also make bags, pack packs, and purses.

I've been working on some embroidery blocks, and reading. Starting to feel the itch again to quilt, probably this weekend.

Since I'm a beginner, I'm trying several (easy) things.
I keep a ball of yarn and a crochet hook at work and in the house for something to keep my fingers busy. I can do dishcloths and have figured out a simple granny square (from watching a youtube video). I'm learning to sew, so I've made pillowcases, pajama pants, a tote bag (one looked like a cow), and now I'm working on an apron using some cute Halloween fabric. My mom, who has crafted forever, knits socks for everyone (and we love them!), makes fingerless gloves for me for when I do photography in the cold, or for at work when I have to do my outside rounds. She also does sweaters, collars, Christmas ornaments, etc. You name it, she can probably make it! My next projects (besides quilting) are making a cloak for me, and then some costume items for my son (to wear to places like the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, etc). Eventually, I'll get my woodshop built and have to chop out time for that as well. Retirement can't come soon enough! |
I will switch to knitting or maybe hand appliqué. If my hands are hurting too then I may decide to check Craftsy for some classes instead or watch tutorials. Reading is something I always do anyway. Filling the freezer with some meals and baked goods is a good thing to do and helps me out when I do get back to quilting.

I have been making Box It Up boxes using scrap fabrics, pet screen and metal tape measures. Pattern is by Stitchin sisters. There are 3 sizes you can make. I also made quite a few Snap to It bags from Annies Quilting for the Home, (2016 special issue). These little bags (9 1/2 X 4 X 3") are made from a 10" square, contrasting fat quarter and a piece of metal tape measure. Lastly I made small bags (9" X 9") with zipper using a tutorial from MSQC. These are quick and simple to do. All of these make great little gifts when you need something quick and simple!

I make "Bah, Humbug" bags. I gave every Guild member one for Christmas one year.
