looking for sore throat remedies

I have some of the Hall's pectin drops (fascinated by how those work, lol) and I've tried hot water with lemon and honey, which does help a little. Coffee (much to my disappointment) makes it worse.

What are your home remedies for sore throat relief?

Have used this one for years! Read it in a little book, Vermont Folk Medicine by a Dr, when my kids were little. He said to put a tsp or tblsp of brown apple cider vinegar in a glass of very warm water, gargle 3 mouthfuls and swallow the 4th one, every 3-4 hours. He said that he'd have his patients do this and also take a swab to have it tested for strep. By the time the report came back, their sore throat would be gone. Has to do with the vinegar changing the pH of the throat/germy area. We've used it for years and my kids got to the point where I didn't even have to tell them to do it when needed....they'd just go ahead and do it because it really worked. be sure it's a good vinegar and start with less if it's too strong for you but usually isn't in a large glass of water.

Okay I can do this!! I used to drink a little cider vinegar mixed with water back when I was a teen, it was so good at clearing up blemishes.

Thanks for the info!

Sorry, I like instant relief and buy Streptasils in honey lemon flavor.

I usually gargle with warm salt water. I believe the proportion is 1tsp salt to 1 cup water, but it might be less. I'm sure if you Google you will see this. Salt kills germs, and the warmth improves circulation. You can use this every hour if necessary. Just be sure not to swallow the water!

Think I'll try the vinegar too next time.

All that really works is gargling with warm salt water.

We would start the cold and flu season out by drinking a cup of hot water mixed with a couple tablespoons apple cider vinegar and a couple tablespoons honey each morning and we were never sick. There were 5 of us kids and there was no time to take care of sick ones :)

Gargle warm salty water! In extreme cases, every two hours. This works for bacterial sore throats. I doubt it works for viral ones.

I also go for the gargling with warm salty water every couple of hours. I also sip hot lemon drinks with a teaspoon of honey and some grated ginger throughout the day with two panadols every 4 hours.

If it's not an infection causing the sore throat the only thing that helps me is yogurt drink with all the bacteria. It comes 8 tiny bottles to a package and cost .88. Maybe a $1 at some stores. Walmart has it here.
