Everybody loves "The Cat in the Hat", and of course "The Grinch" is famous at Christmas. How about "The Lorax"?

Is he among your Dr. Seuss favorites?

Greenheron 07-18-2011 12:58 PM

No, I don't care for the Lorax but I do like Green Eggs and Ham.
And Horton Hears a Who and Horton Hatches the Egg. And the Cat in the Hat Comes Back. One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, I Can Read With My Eyes Shut! And that great question: "Oh Say Can You Say? Twenty-five years in kindergarten develops a taste for GREAT literature and read-alouds.

Remember what Horton said, "A person's a person no matter how small."

Love all things Dr. Suess. I am a Middle & High School media specialist, but we still use some of his stuff. A few teachers have students write poetry using his style of writing, and we use some of his stuff in history, such as "The Butter Battle Book". This work is his treatise on nuclear war--and you all thought his stuff was just for kids....

sweet 07-18-2011 01:04 PM

Yes to all Seuss! It's a winner for sure!

JulieR 07-18-2011 01:25 PM

LOVE the Lorax! That's one of my favorites for sure!

bearisgray 07-18-2011 01:27 PM

Never heard of it.

I'm still on Green Eggs and Ham and One First, Two Fish.

I didn't like the Cat in the Hat, either. Bad Cat! Bad Cat!

dogpursemaker 07-18-2011 01:49 PM

I like the Lorax, but when the Zax come in, let me know! My hubby and eldest always say, "There's mom and her twin!" Gotta love the Zax!

carolaug 07-18-2011 01:51 PM

He's cute!!!

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 07-18-2011 03:54 PM

The Lorax is hands down my husband and daughter's favorite. They can both quote the whole book.

genafan201 07-18-2011 06:01 PM

Green Eggs and Ham, green eggs and ham,
I do not like green eggs and Ham.
I do not like them, Sam I am.
I do not like them in a tree.
I do not like them let me be...

LOVE Green Eggs and Ham.

And don't forget the stand by "Oh the Places You'll Go"...I think that book has been given to EVERY high school graduate since it was written. I also liked "Go Dog Go"...

SueSew 07-18-2011 06:50 PM

I don't remember the Lorax at all. Cat in hat is iconic. A lot of Seuss is fun but drawings are not good enough; they are more about the wordplay. I think the Eric Carle fabric line for Caterpillar totally missed the mark in color saturation and lots of his work will become classic if not iconic.

Before I retired, I was a 6th grade teacher. Did a fun unit in which the kids wrote and did "raps" based on Dr. Seuss books. Loved Dr. Seuss, as there were great morals in his books.

kaykwilts 07-19-2011 05:20 AM

My favorite Dr Suess book in "The Sleep Book"....I got one in 1966 and still have it today...but I never see it around anymore..and that is sad, cause it's a great book to read at the end of the day!!

Emmy Sue 07-19-2011 05:47 AM

My son's favorite was "Are You My Mother?" He got teary-eyed every time we read it.

Pegleg 07-19-2011 06:13 AM

My favorite is "Oh the Places you can go"
I've given to all the graduates in the family with personal notes inside and then had all at the grad party sign making it a personal keepsake for the grad to look upon at different stages of their lives.

GrandmaLiz 07-19-2011 06:26 AM

I am the Lorax--I speak for the trees! I've noticed that the trees along the street in Wiesbaden (Germany) are numbered. I hear that they take their trees very seriously here.
Meanwhile, I do like Dr. Seuss. "Oh, the Places You Can Go" is a great one. One of my favorites is not a rhyming one. It's Bartholomew Cubbins and the Oobleck. If you haven't read it, you should. Goes to show what awful things can happen when we are dissatisfied with what we have already.

loriea 07-19-2011 06:39 AM

My favorite!

We read Dr. Suess to the kids since they were very young. Our older son understood the nuclear message long before we thought he would. We always called the book "The Butter Side Up"! Haven't thought about it in years! Thanks for jogging my memory!

Quilt Mom 07-19-2011 06:48 AM

We read Dr. Seuss books to our girls a lot. The Lorax was a favorite.

JoAnnGC 07-19-2011 07:00 AM

Yes to anything Seuss! The Lorax is a classic and was probably one of the first children's books to teach about protecting our natural environment and it is still very relevant today. Children love this character :)

QuiltnLady1 07-19-2011 07:12 AM

Love Dr. Seuss!! Horton Hears a Who is a favorite, as was Cat in a Hat, but DS absolutely loved How the Grinch Stole Christmas -- we had to read it year 'round. Even DH had it memorized. Last Christmas I started reciting it to DGS and remembered most of it -- he was reading along and correcting my errrors. It was great fun. (His Mom, DD, never approved of us reading Christmas books when it was not Christmas so he only gets to enjoy it in the fall.)

paulswalia 07-19-2011 07:17 AM

I once memorized the whole of the Lorax for a high school speach team competition. Could I repeat it all from memory today? Not so much.....

svenskaflicka1 07-19-2011 07:38 AM

i'm from the days of "on beyond zebra" and "the 500 hats of bartholomew cubbins", and "bartholomew cubbins and the oobleck". i have to cop to loving all things seuss. horton, the sneetches, even that naughty cat in the hat populated our lives for a very long time. (but on beyond zebra captured my heart when i was little...)

greaterexp 07-19-2011 09:09 AM

All Dr. Seuss are wonderful. I liked the Lorax, but I've never seen Horton Hears a Who fabric. Would love that!

Greenheron 07-19-2011 09:34 AM

For a read aloud with a pre-schooler try Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You?

Quiltbeagle 07-19-2011 09:35 AM

I've never read the Lorax ...but how I love Green Eggs and Ham, how I love them Sam I am! LOL

and Yertle the Turtle was a treatise on Hitler. Very political. In sum, if Dr. Seuss wrote it, I love it!

Sharonsews 07-19-2011 11:10 AM

Love Green eggs and ham.

That's my all time favourite Dr. Seuss book. I even bought the digitable version for my iPod Touch. I would love to see Lorax fabrics!

aliaslaceygreen 07-19-2011 11:55 AM

YES... and yes to almost any Dr. Seuss!!! And to any baby/kid books !!!

RugosaB 07-19-2011 12:25 PM

I love Dr Seuss, and always really loved The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins, but I have no idea why. I don't even wear hats!

charlotte37830 07-19-2011 02:50 PM

I love Dr. Seuss. It would be hard to pick a favorite.

PKITTY1 07-19-2011 03:11 PM

I love the Lorax. It was my favorite children's book and still makes me cry. I gave a copy to my oldest nephew for Christmas this year. My brother told me that is was very welcome as he was going to buy it for Luke anyway.

TonnieLoree 07-19-2011 03:23 PM

I love all things Dr. Seuss. He is my favorite doctor. :-)

reginasoup 07-19-2011 07:41 PM

I am the Lorax. I speak for the trees!!!! One of my favorites. I always showed it to my class on Earth day.

garrow4 07-20-2011 05:09 AM

Oh yes to ALL Dr Seuss books. I just love them. But still think the creator was on drugs. How else could he come up with the words and the creatures he used. LOL Still ya gotta love his crativity.

Quilt Mom 07-20-2011 08:08 AM

'And to think that I saw it on Mulberry Street'
'the 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins'
'Bartlolomew Cubbins and the Oobleck'
'Yertle the Turtle'
I guess I did not see the political statements made by the author when I was reading the books as a child. I just enjoyed the silliness of the rhymes and illustrations.

clarinet87 07-20-2011 08:39 AM

The Lorax is my favorite Dr. Seuss book of all time. The movie is also fantastic. I still remember watching it every Earth Day in elementary school.

traumaRN 07-20-2011 08:51 AM

Hmmm, I love One Fish, Two Fish because it was the one that both my daughters could read first. But probably my favorite to read was Fox in Sox; and yes, my tongue was numb every time I read it! (It definitely is a read aloud book)
