I read online (maybe even on this site) of a lady who got one, and ended up not being able to call her next door neighbor! She could call everywhere else, but not next door.... seems strange to me. There's always a catch for something that cheap.

We bought 3 so that various family members around the country could connect. We had nothing but trouble and a lot of unauthorized charges to my credit card. Could never get a human on the phone that would agreed to do anything. The one time a man answered after I got the number directly, he was quite rude and wanted to know where I got their number. I lost a lot of money on this project and it did not work well. We gave them all up.

I love mine! It's only as good as your broadband connection so any issues will interfer with your quality.

That said, I don't even have mine connected to my computer any longer. I have it configured to send me an email then I check my VM and see if it's a call I want to return with my cell phone or not. It's a cheap way to avoid telemarketers for those times when you "have" to give out a phone number.

I like it because I can have a local number in a specific area.

Our preacher bought one and the quality of tranmission is lousy. He always sounds like he has mush in his mouth.

I am an international flight attendant and my son is currently deployed. We both have one and they work great!! We each even bought a little five dollar phone at Walmart to use with it. You just plug the MJ into the USB port on your computer, plug the phone into it and use it like you would your house phone. You can also talk through your computer, but I'm old school!!

We have had it for several years and are quite pleased. There have been glitches, but they often were due to our not using it correctly. We do not use the phone all that much, but really like that we have a record of our calls and a redundancy of messages.

My DGD has a Magic Jack. We used it on our trip through Europe. If we had a good strong internet connection, it worked fine. In some places where the internet was not as strong we got static and dropped calls. For us, it saved us a lot of money on long distance.

I have had my magic jack for 2 years. It doesn't work well with my sprint air card on my lap top, but it works fine on my IBM tower and the air card. I use it most at home through the DSL connection and it works very well. I do customer support and call all over the US and Canada. There are some telephone end connections that will not accept a magic jack call. Small telephone offices, make their money on calls coming into and going out of their offices. I use my cell phone or regular phone line for all calls that I can't use the magic jack for. It has saved a ton of money. Good Luck.
