Mail Carriers, Clerks, and Postmasters

Every year at this time we try to give to those who serve us throughout the year especially our postal people. Do you do something special for yours and if so, what? Don't forget the homemade cookies!

I live in a small town of about 60 people and our mail comes via mail carrier (rural route). He is a friend of the family and I made little quick breads, and we have hunters who give us so many jars of homemade jellies and jams each time they come we can not keep up, so I made a little package of breads and jellies to give to him and he ended up getting in trouble as the head postmaster here (who can be a real pain) said this was accepting bribes while on the job. So now we give them to him when not in his official vehicle. Even though he uses his own personal car for delivering mail.

What a load of crap that you can't give a gift to someone without someone else saying it's a bribe! We give to the postman, the paper guy and I usually leave some cookies for the boys on the trash truck! This year I'll probably take a plate of cookies to the gals at the bank, they've been so helpful this year. Also the Dr. office as I have an appt right after Christmas.

We share with our carrier all through the year. She loves our garden. She especially loves my pepper jelly ;-)

I give my daughters bus driver a gift a few times a year... Xmas gift- usually something from Home Depot or Lowes- hes a guy after all !! , a valentines goodie bag full of chocolates, Easter goodie bag - Homemade jams & Jellies... He is the best, wont leave till he sees me and my daughter is safe and sound..

Mail Lady gets a gift card....

Im making my Post office lady a tote with a few goodies inside.. Soaps, hand lotion, note pads, pot holders, and whatever I can think of..

A group of us have taken in a family and for the twelve days of Christmas we leave gifts at their steps, ring the bell and RUN LIKE CRAZY to the car.. or just leave it in their PO box..

That postmaster is out of line. The Postal Service does have a policy of limiting gifts to a $10.00 value anything over that may be considered a bribe. However, there is no law nor regulation that requires these servants to report to their gifts to their bosses. I know of several postmasters who tell there people this very thing. So be as generous as you wish.

A bribe to do WHAT???!! exactly? deliver your mail before everyone else's?

well, the carrier shouldn't even let the the p.m. know he got a gift. we give ours something every yr. since i order lots of stuff on line, and she delivers so good, puts it on the porch. bags it so things don't get wet. etc. yes, and i know it's part of her job, but we like her.
