Making donuts?
 

I was talking to someone at work about making homemade donuts. My Mom had a thing that you put the donut batter in and pushed down the top peice to drop a donut into to hot oil. Then the other person mentioned that his Mom had something like a waffle iron with the round shapes , to pour a batter in and close the lid and let them bake in this unit. I remember having one of those too, many years ago. I don't know where it went. Does anybody remember this and what it was called? I would love to find one again. The donuts were real tasty and not greasy.

the King Arthur Flour catalog has a pan that you can make donuts in the oven. Probably can find one cheaper elsewhere.

There are donut makers in just about every store now. I've seen then in WalMart and the Kitchen Collection. Like a waffle maker, close the lid and they bake. When we want donuts I cheat and get a can of biscuits and cut the center out, drop them in oil and either roll in sugar and cinnamon or drizzle a glaze. Tastes really good and they're cheap!

Thanks , I will have to check them out more. So much for trying to go on a diet; but my little GS loves donuts. His eyes just light up whenever he sees them and has to have one with sprinkles. So maybe this is something I can pass on to him.

Funny you should ask! The one I have is called DAZEY DONUT FACTORY. I just saw same ads last weekend for the donut makers and pulled out my donut maker that I had received as a gift probably 30 years ago! Used it a few times, then moved and it got put in the back of a shelf and forgotten for a while. The recipe book is not in the box but bet if I look long and hard enough I could find it. Am going to look for recipes for donuts when I am done here. Any one have some good recipes for them?

I have one like your mom had. Got it at a house sale for $1.00. Never used it but had to have it.

my dad usually gets a couple doz donuts when we all come to visit for the morning grazing... We eat while we wait for the rest of the family members get up.. Well I was one of the last to rise and shine and of course MY car was behind dads car and he couldnt get out of the driveway.. BUT WE HAD DONUTS !! apparently my mom, my sis and my lil one made donuts from a can of Pillsbury biscuits.. they 'fried' each side a few minutes till golden and when slightly cooled they glazed with can frosting.. they used the biscuit cutter to make the holes too !! they were super yummy and no one noticed that they weren't 'bought'..

I have one, it makes 5 or 6 mini donuts at one time. I got mine at Penny for under $20

I remember m grandma making donuts with one of those that the dough goes into and she pushed out the donut shape into the oil. I just roll mine out and cut them with a donut cutter and then drop them into the hot oil. I know that the deep frying isn't as healthy as ones that bake in the oven. I just have never baked them.
