I'm getting ready to start making some fall/halloween themed masks. I'm planning to use the 3D pattern but want better elastic. I was going to get the precut ties but they're all a bit short for using in a casing so I need to find the full lengths of elastic, but not flat elastic. I saw some round but it's about 1/8" and I want more like 1/4" wide and round, not flat. Soft so it doesn't hurt the ears.. Anyone know of which elastic cord would be like this (preferably at amazon).

gale: I purchased two ten yard pieces of round (but it's not as wide as you want) that is soft and feels good around the ears, from YARD BY YARD on FB . Reasonably priced and I was very satisfied. Shipping was very quick also.

Be mindful of the pattern fabric you are using. Not sure bones or skeletons are good choice for masks for covid 19

So I was looking at making the origami style 3d. I made a couple and they are so HOT. 3 layers of fabric plus the filter. I found this video online that only uses 2 layers plus the filter.
https://youtu.be/qmkjn5O3XVo I also might try to figure out how to make this one so that it allows for a filter. Maybe splitting the liner somehow. I like how the front is more football shaped than rectangular. https://www.instagram.com/tv/CC57pligmGw/ |
I started out making pleated masks with fabric ties. I knew I had a binder and could make miles of the ties in no time, so I gave all of my elastic to other sewers. Then I bought the Accuquilt medium shaped mask die. Game changer! I have done at least 150 of them, and give them away right and left. I recently bought their child sized die too, and I am well above 150 of those. I have been using a soft round elastic from Kamsnaps.com. Good price, and good quality. I also use the nylon strips she sells for nose shaping on adults. For my own sanity, I now make masks just once or twice a week for a few hours. I keep the ones I have made hanging on a rack, and visitors can take some if they want. As I accumulate excess I take them somewhere. The schools are in real need of child sized masks, and they have been very thankful for the ones I drop by there. I even made some odd ones for my granddaughter and her friend just starting trumpet at school! They had a slit for their mouth and then an added little flap to cover the mouth. Cool idea from their teacher!
