We will be going to Chicago right after Christmas and the winds in chicago can be nasty...so I figured I better make Meadow (my guide dog) a coat!

Grandma Peg 11-22-2012 06:20 PM

Meadow looks like he is ready for the holidays. You did a great job.

Meadow is beautiful. Where is she from? We raise Leader Dogs for the Blind, headquartered in Rochester, Michigan. She looks exactly like Bridget, the first leader puppy we raised. We named Bridget after the young woman who lost her husband and gave my husband his new heart. We love to see working dogs, it makes our year long effort all worth it.

Lori S 11-23-2012 04:56 AM

What a irresistable fuzzy one! And quite the fashion statement! You can always tell a well dressed dog by their accessories! Have fun in Chicago! There are some very nice quilts shops here. Hope you have time to check out a few.

Good job and a proud dog too. It looks like a good pattern for a dog coat, can you share? One of my Goldens, Sam, has a big no fur scar on his back so he needs sunscreen in the summer and a coat in the winter.

It is a green pepper pattern actually the pattern number is F703. I know that JoAnn's here sells them. If you cannot find it where you are I would be happy to mail you one.

Good job we have two Shih-Tzu and I made them both 2 coats apiece out of duck material it kept them warm and snuggle. A lot cheaper to make than to buy.

Grinster 11-24-2012 03:19 PM

Meadow is one lucky dog! Beautiful and it will come in handy in the Windy City. Merry Christmas to both of you!

Nonna Judi 11-24-2012 08:12 PM

Meadow will be the most fashionable dog in Chicago! Enjoy your trip!

ShirlR 11-25-2012 01:19 AM

Wonderful coat, and so very well fitted to your precious Meadow! He's a handsome fellow!

Retired Fire Chief 11-25-2012 03:52 AM

Thank you for the website link. I have never heard of Occupaws. I know there is Guide Dogs for the visually impaired in California. Leader Dog is also a non-profit. The biggest contributor is the Lions Club and their fun raisers such as the white cane campaign where they give white cane lapel pins out for a contribution. We take our leader dog puppies to their funraisers and the Christmas party they hold for needy children. I'm glad there is another organization that trains these remarkable dogs. My prayers and blessings to you and Meadow, may she give you many years of independence and comfort.

He is a total blessing....I am so much more independant now than before. People look at me funny when they ask if I'm training....and I say nope he's mine...

quiltingfan 11-25-2012 02:27 PM

I take it his vest goes over the coat? My husband service dog gets cold and shivers but did not know what to do about the vest he has to wear. Any suggestions?

SonjaG 11-25-2012 02:30 PM

LOVE it! Don't know what is cuter, the coat or the dog. LOL.

It looks like the Green Pepper patterns are sold through Butterick patterns. I will try to get one here.
