Quiltingboard Forums - Mom in a Perils of Pauline Situation

My mom is a very spry and energetic 85 year old. She lives alone in a mobile home in a park, drives all over town, etc. She is very active and sometimes gets herself into situations. She has a fence that goes from the front of her home by the front steps to the other side in the back, but the back door steps are in the driveway, in front of the fence. Both gates (one at front, one at driveway) are locked with padlocks. She has a pomeranian dog who can be a little stubborn when he wants. The other night the dog didn't want to come in when she called him, so she went out the front door to the back yard to find him. Well, she absentmindedly pulled the front door closed, and as soon as it closed, she realized it was still locked. Now, this is at 9:30 at night, she was getting ready for bed, so she was in her robe and slippers...and nothing else. She stood there wondering what to do, as she was not only locked out of the house but locked into the yard. She went and got the ladder from behind the shed thinking she could climb onto the roof of the shed and pull the ladder up and then put the ladder over the fence and climb down to the driveway. But then realized it would be too heavy. So....she decided to try to get the attention of the man who lives next door. She propped the ladder against the fence on his yard side, and started yelling out for him.

Do we get the picture??? 85 year old woman in a robe and nothing else yelling for the man next door?

When she was telling me I was nearly rolling on the floor laughing!!

After about 20 minutes he finally heard her and came out the back door. She said "Can you come over here for a minute?" He said, sure, and came over to the driveway. Without waiting for her to say anything, he said "What did you do??" He knows her pretty well already.

She told him briefly what happened, and where the extra key was hidden in the power box. He got it, went in the back door, and let her in the front door.

My husband and I were out of town that weekend, so we didn't hear about this until the next week. My cousin heard it from her the day after it happened, and she wrote on Facebook, "So, have you heard about your mom's weekend adventure?" I laughed because I had just heard, and I told mom, "don't think you'll get away with anything ever!".

She is too much!!!
