Another one... "That's as clear as mud"

When I was little and we had something special, like a really good dinner.. my Mom or Dad would comment that we "were walking in tall cotton now".. the funny thing is that we were California people and they were from Nebraska.. no one I know of was from the South.. I'm not sure any of us had ever seen cotton growing!!

Don't do anything you would be ashamed of me seeing - sayeth my mom. Boy did that keep me on the straight and narrow sometimes. Now she's watching me constantly ( or can if she wants to ) so I have to be on my best behavior! ;)

"If you can't say something nice do say anything."
"If they all jump into the fire are you going to do that" " beauty is only skin deep " |
"Better pick up that lower lip before you trip on it." Boy did I hear that a lot!

Watch your mouth - the Devil'l come and cut your tongue out!
The one I told our son that I hope he remembers "Your father gave you his most prized possession. His name. Don't do anything to besmirch it. Edie |

What's for dinner? Wind pudding and air sauce.
My Mom always said "See you in the morning with a Happy Face" as we went to bed. It's so wonderful to hear my Grands say it to us when they sleep over "It doesn't matter worth a hill of beans" When I was complaining over something this morning at the Dentist office he said to me "When you woke up this morning did you spread your elbows and feel wood?" No "Then what's to complain about?" And ain't that the truth! |
Sew something and tear it out, recipient will live to wear it out.

My grandpa was FAMOUS for the sayings he would use. lol He also had no qualms about cussing in front of us kids.
He would always say.... "Uglier than a hand full of arseholes" "feels like a young mockingbirds arse during pokeperry season" He used to love to see me laugh and he would always say, "Dingy, you know what hell is?" I would say "No Poppy, whats hell" he would say "being in a bucket of s@#$ up to your neck and some dumb SOB throws a brick and you have to duck!" I would laugh so hard I would almost wet myself. He use to say "slicker than greased owl S%!^" or "Balder than an apes arse". When one of my cousins would be talking crap about what they were "going to do" to someone, he would always say "Don't let your alligator mouth overload your hummingbird arse!" NO ONE was EVER allowed to sit on the table no matter what kind of table it was. He would always say "tables are for glasses not little arses". Mom always told us "do for others what you can but don't expect anything in return!" I can't say NO because of this simple statement drilled in my head as a child! lol thanks mom. |
