My dad used to say he would kick your *#@ up on your shoulders. If we were pouting he would say stick your lip out a little further and a crow will come along and build a nest on it.

My mom would say, " the cure for disappointment, don't expect anything."

My mom's favourite: I brought you into this world, I can take you out of it ...

My response? But then you'd have to spend the rest of your life in jail, so is it really worth it???

Since there is a possibility AngelaNR and I were raised by clone moms our moms could have been sisters:-) .

The one time I tried that same response ....her reply was " nah all I will need is one of your teachers to testify and not a jury in the world will convict me".

Another of her favorites was "the road to hell is paved with good intentions"

"You have to suffer to be beautiful." This was usually said when she was pulling my hair into a tight ponytail!

My mom always said "People in Hell want ice water." Now she hears that from me.
Also, "A watched pot never boils."

I've told my kids most the ones that have been said on here; however, I told them if you lay with dogs you will get fleas, birds of a feather stick together and if you play the game-you will get the name.

Most important "momism" I told my kids to make sure they were done being carefree, before they had babies, because from then on you are a MOM first and foremost, and forever.

"What part of NO don't you understand?"

"Don't cross your eyes, they'll get stuck that way."

"Just wait until your father gets home!" (I always loved this one!)

"Soup is only a belly wash. You need to eat real food."

One positive saying (which she always said in Yiddish) translated: "Go in good health" ("Zie Geshundt")
