When I was working multi-tasking was easy and necessary but after 10 yrs of retirement I wonder how I ever did it.If I get up to empty the waste basket- get a cup of tea and go potty I usually forget the most important task-going potty. So I've decided to do one thing at a time-even if it requires more indoor walking. The exercise is good for me and I no longer forget to go potty......: )

I was watching a piece on the news the other night, and they were talking about researching kids who " multi -task" and what they found was that multi tasking is not accomplishing more, it is just breaking several tasks into smaller sections and not giving ANY of them a good effort. You have to keep refocusing your attention, and reorient yourself, all which takes a fraction of a second sometimes, and sometimes more, but the end result is worse than if you just finish one thing and the start on another. I've tried to remember this I jump from one thing to the next - I'm trying to " multi task" less, but it IS difficult!

doesn't cooking at the same time as quilting count? in the winter dinner will be in the oven or summers in the crockpot while i'm quilting or whatever. the oven usually gives me a couple of hours and the crock up to 8 hours guess which is my favorite. (crock of course)

I used to pride myself on how well I could multi-task! Well, the brain has changed just a bit!! The other night I was making chicken salad and fruit salad for a late dinner and my neighbor stopped by, so I was talking to her too. She left and I took dinner to the lvg rm to eat and watch tv. an hour or so later I suddenly smelled something from the kitchen....oh no! I'd put a dozen eggs on to boil when neighbor was here, didn't set my timer I wear (see, this has happened before!) and the eggs boiled dry! Needless to say I had to use the hints here on cleaning a burned pan....= one lost dozen eggs! Just can't get distracted anymore! very depressing!

Don’t know why, but when I retired my multi-tasking ability declined. When I start sewing, I forget to check on what’s cooking in the oven, or to swap out the washer dryer loads, or to let the dogs back in.

I just received my Polder 3-in-1 clock, timer, stopwatch with neck strap from Amazon. The sound of the alarm is enough to remind me that I’m multi-tasking. I can definitely relate to Pollytink's experience.

I really like to sew & have the football game or my very favorite, a hockey game on. My family can't understand how I can "watch" hockey & sew at the same time, but it's really easy. Hockey moves so fast anyway that "watching" is kind of impossible as it is, so listening becomes really important & I can do that while I sew. Then if something really exciting happens, they always have an instant replay so I look up & watch that (ditto football) . Oh, it's sheer heaven for me & I cannot wait for the various sports seasons to begin!!! Go, Broncos! Go, Red Wings!
