My husband and I are staying at a hotel with our 2 dogs, both 15 yrs old (dogs not us) while our house is being tented for termites.

One of the dogs paced and whined all night until I gave her a little piece of one of my sleeping pills at midnight. She slept until 4am. And my husband has to go to work - so we are both tired.

Then I am taking both dogs outside for a morning potty trip and we get on the elevator along with a couple other people. They push the up button before I pushed down - so up we went to the top floor. They get off and just before the door shuts my dog follows and the doors won't open. I have one of those leashes that has the line wound up inside so I scream, but the elevator is now going down and I am still holding the leash. It rips out of my hand and flies to the top of the door. I reach the bottom floor and am in panic mode and push every button on the elevator. I go back up and it stops at a different floor, but I don't know that and am yelling at the people standing there where is my dog... help my dog. Now I have the leash with just an empty string hanging there.

I told them I had to go up to the 5th floor and so I did. I reached the floor and the lady, who had ridden the elevator with us was there holding on to my dog. She saw what was happening and disconnected the leash! I am so thankful for her!

BellaBoo 04-12-2011 02:18 PM

I'm so glad everything is okay. I thought all elevators had to have an emergency stop button and an emergency alarm button I would certainly find out why this one did not have a stop button.

pab58 04-12-2011 02:23 PM

OMGoodness!!!!!  I would have been in a panic, too!!!! Thank the good Lord for the quick thinking of the woman who realized what was happening!!!

Know what is ironic? My husband repairs elevators and when I called him -he said he will tell the guy who works on this hotel to check it out...the doors are supposed to open when someone passes through - maybe the dog was too small or it didn't work right. I did push the emergency stop button, it just kept going to the bottom.

frauhahn 04-12-2011 02:44 PM

Your dog had an angel by his side-I'm so glad it all worked out okay!

moonwork42029 04-12-2011 02:54 PM

Now that your heart has quit racing I'm glad all of you are ok.

OH MY! I was about to stop reading your posting, cannot handle reading about pets being hurt, when I pushed myself and YAY a happy ending. I am so happy that lady was there and saved your baby. I can only imagine how horribly scary that would be.

I don't even have any pets, but that story got my heart racing! So glad your dog is OK.

catlover 04-13-2011 05:49 AM

Whew! I feel your panic. I'd be screaming and in such a panic that the whole hotel would hear it. So glad it turned out OK.

I was sitting here, reading this story and holding my breath. I could just see that poor dog strangling to death. I was so relieved when I got to the end of the story and found out all was well. Bless that woman for saving your poor dog, or should I say "lucky" dog.

CarrieAnne 04-13-2011 06:33 AM

SuzyQ 04-13-2011 06:35 AM
