My Guide Dog Meadow

1 Attachment(s)
Since there has been alot of questions about my puppy Meadow he is trained already and now I am currently in training with him. I am glad to have him home. He is a very loving dog. He is as English Yellow lab. Very well behaved I will be taking him with me while I finish the last couple of semesters of school. So that will be fun. If anyone has any question please feel free o ask me.

Susan

He's adorable ... and obviously enjoying his "time off"!

Here's to many good times for the two of you together.

Good for you, looks like he will be a good dog.

Caroline S 10-02-2012 07:24 AM

Awe, a typical Labrador. Meadow is a sweet name. Labradors sure do enjoy their comfort :). I have two English bred labs and one other American bred.

CajunQuilter2 10-02-2012 09:07 AM

What a beautiful dog. Such a sweetheart!!! What is the difference between a yellow lab and an english yellow lab?

Jim's Gem 10-02-2012 09:11 AM

He's precious!!! I love labs. Mine were the English style, I only have one left now, she's 14 years old.

He is of smaller stature than an American Lab

Beautiful Pup!!! After a while you wonder how you ever got along without him. A Service Dog becomes part of who the handler is. When I lost my first "partner" I thought I was going to die.

Yours is so cute as well... I can feel him become part of me already. It only has been 2 days and he has my heart totally and I trust him as well.

This picture brought tears to my eyes. We lost our RALPH the end of March. He looked just like your puppy. He lived to be 7yrs old. What a joy and such a gentle ben, he was the love of our life. I hope MEADOW brings as much love as our RALPH did for my husband and myself.

Caswews 10-03-2012 04:37 AM

what a sweet picture ..Meadow will be your best friend, enjoy and remember Meadow is there for your protection !

She is beautiful. I have an English that looks just like her, an 8 month old male we have named Oliver we are raising for Leader Dog for the Blind out of Rochester, Michigan. He is the fourth we have raised and once again, he is one of the loves of my life. Many people say they couldn't do what we do because they could not give them up. And raising them for a year and then giving them back is one of the very hardest things to do, but seeing a guide dog working, giving someone confidence and independence makes it all worthwhile. It is very rewarding to see a new owner love our puppy just as much as we did. Best wishes to you and Miss Meadow, may you have a long, blessed relationship.

English bred labs are the original stocky, blocky blood lines. American bred labs are what they term field trial types being lighter boned and taller. Sort of like the difference between an old style Quarter Horse and a Thoroughbred. Color makes not make a difference. My two English bred labs, one very blond and the other black are both from the same litter and had two chocolate littermates. It is all about genetics.

MimiBug123 10-03-2012 10:43 AM

What a precious baby! Labs have the best disposition!

Meadow is amazing and it is a beautiful name.

What you all do when you train the dogs is amazing to me. Lots of work . . But I understand about seeing them go to do their jobs. It makes your heart swell. :)
I only did family pets , and no where near the training, just the basics, but the joy in the eyes of the people getting the dogs was well worth it. And no one got one of mine unless I saw that joy in the eyes of the people and the dog.

Labs are the best dogs, so smart, I swear my black Lab knew every word spoke to her, I lost her 18 years ago, doesn't seem possible it was that long ago...
Have a wonderful life with Meadow.
"Yes" "Meadow" is a very cool name.

We also have an English Lab - born March 29th of this year and her name is Molly. Our first Lab - and we just love her. Although she went thru a stage where I nicknamed her "Puddin' Brains". Are you raising Meadow to then become someone else's guide dog or will he be your own? I've often thought about volunteering to raise a guide dog.

Kathy Osterby 10-04-2012 08:40 AM

So happy for you!! I know you will have many happy and fun years ahead.

quiltingfan 10-04-2012 09:28 AM

We just received my husbands PTSD dog last thursday. He is not trained yet but will be training with my husband hopefully starting soon. I am so glad that you have such a handsome guy to help you.

Meadow is beautiful. Congratulations on adding this sweet baby to your family.

quiltjoey 10-04-2012 09:53 AM

I am so happy for you to have such a wonderful guide and companion. She is beautiful and Labs are wonderful. I'm sure you will have greater feelings of freedom and safety now that you have her.
God bless the both of you as He meets all our needs...

Actually me because I still have sight and I need to learn to trust him to take me where it is safe to travel. I am doing great though. My trainer says that I am leaps and bounds ahead of anyone else that she has trained.

Yes, He is a very handsome boy, I love him already and he is apart of the family. I want to say Thanks for raising the dogs for leader dogs it is a great thing that you do. I know how hard it must be for you to give them up. I am lucky the organization that I got him from is training him here right with me at home. The organization is called Occupaws, it is a small organization but the trainer is wonderful!
