I don't know if seeing me smile on my avatar creeps anyone out but it is my "new smile" that I am thrilled about. I had my permanent teeth come in when I was 8 years old, dark from tetracycline medication taken long term. Anyway, I am 55 years old now, and went in and had porcelean veneers put on my top front 6 teeth. I cried all the way home because it is the first time in my life I have had white teeth. When I say dark, they were really brown all my life. I sat a total of 4.5 hours in the dentist chair but wouldn't change it for the world. Anyway, to make a long story short, never stop your dreams from happening no matter how long it takes.

!! Your smile is beautiful !! I'd be smiling too - that is a long time to sit in a dentist chair - but the results are wonderful. I'm happy for you!

mshollysd 06-12-2011 01:24 PM

Thanks, my daughter is tired of hearing about them, and I have had them only a week. LOL

mshollysd 06-12-2011 01:26 PM

If anyone can imagine going through childhood with ugly teeth, it was horrible, and later I just didn't really care what people thought, but now, I wish I would have bit the bullet and had them done when I was younger, maybe I wouldn't have felt so bad. People with white teeth have been my envy for my entire life.

amma 06-12-2011 01:27 PM

Awww your whole face is smiling now :D:D:D

Me, too.

White, even teeth that match, top and bottom.

I am so happy for you that you were able to get yours the way you want them. Your smile is lovely.

I know what you mean about 'yellow' teeth. I, too was in the group that received the 'miracle' drug tetracycline prior to 'adult' teeth..... Great smile!

LoriEl 06-12-2011 02:54 PM

You have a right to be happy! They look great.

jrharry 06-12-2011 03:16 PM

They look wonderful! I totally understand how you fell as I had an overlaping front tooth. At 55 I got braces for two years and then had all the front 4 capped. Makes you feel so much better. Now I need to whiten the bottom. Love your smile!

cjomomma 06-12-2011 03:38 PM

You have a georgious smile!

My DH has teeth like you explained from tetracycline. His parents never bothered to get them fixed eventhough they could afford it. When he smiles he doesn't show his teeth.

Stitchnripper 06-12-2011 03:39 PM

Beautiful smile and I'm glad you got them!

julia58 06-12-2011 03:43 PM

Keep smiling!!!

dixiebelle162002 06-12-2011 03:51 PM

You have such a beautiful smile and congratulations!

KathyAire 06-12-2011 04:21 PM

Good for you. Your smile is beautiful. I like nice teeth and I don't care how much it cost.
There is a young lady, well not so young, but younger than I, in my Bible Study class and she only has one tooth in her whole mouth. It is right in the front. I don't know anything about her or her life. I just feel sorry that she never had her teeth taken care of. I'm sure she can't afford it. I can't imagine her going through life like that if she could afford it.

sweet 06-12-2011 04:23 PM

Love it that you had that done! Good for you!

true4uca 06-12-2011 04:29 PM

If I had a beautiful smile like yours, I would have my picture for my avatar too. Congratulations!!

arimuse 06-12-2011 06:30 PM

They look really good! Do you find yourself stopping at the mirror when you run for a potty break?? lol. You should plan some picture cards for Christmas.

We (hubs and I) had back to back appts thursday to have what the dentist called divots filled, around 16 each person! They form from old age (gums recede) and brushing too hard or with a hard brush. It just looks like you have these dents in all your teeth at the gumline, and food gets in there and your teeth start to look peggy. I didn't care about the looks so very much but he said if we weakened the teeth that way the fronts might shear off!
I hate the dentist, I brush and floss thru the day trying to keep from any issues. Anyway, we did this, he had to "surface drill", no shots - I thougt I'd have a heart attack it hurt so much (coldair/water on nerves too close to the surface of the tooth! - he said it was ok!!)
For 2 days I thought my life was over, my mouth hurt so bad even opening in the air hurt, couldnt eat, couldnt drink - BUT, every time I passed the bathrm mirror, by gosh, they sure looked better than they ever did in my life! If I were planning an open casket (want cremation)I'd make sure they pulled a toothy smile on my face!
Now, I smile all the time and am still looking (the pain went away, the dentist said it would, he didnt lie)in the bathrm mirror every potty trip, lololol. sharet

roseOfsharon 06-12-2011 06:32 PM

Good for you! Your new smile is beautiful.

SueDor 06-13-2011 03:46 AM

Great smile!

smagruder 06-13-2011 04:00 AM

Your smile is beautiful. I understand how you feel. I had TB ( on the outside of my face and neck) when I was 9 months old.... left a long scar on my right cheek, under my chin, and on my neck. I was teased a lot. When I was a senior I had the scar on my cheek reduced... still have a straight lined scar there. Also on my neck. Nothing under my chin. People can be cruel. I am happy for you and your beautiful smile.

mshollysd 06-13-2011 04:01 AM

Thank you all for your compliments and words of encouragements. When I was about 10 we were in florida (back in the 60s) and I saw all these beautiful African American women with beautiful white teeth. I was so envious of them, I asked my mom if I could turn black too! My parents had the money to fix my color, just didn't spend it on those kind of things. My teeth are excellent except for the color of them so they didn't want to change them.
Arimuse, I understand the pain, I had to get shots both times I went in to have them worked on. I am a baby and they were very sensitive. I may have the bottoms done sometime, but I want to forget about the pain. BTW, instead of getting a longarm I got a Juki and my teeth done. LOL, I guess I wouldn't change it.

mshollysd 06-13-2011 04:03 AM

I am glad I live in a smaller city because I stop by the mirror to see my smile, and also move my rear view mirror so I can drive and see my smile. My girlfriend says if she is going to call me "GARFIELD" soon,.

hospicenurse 06-13-2011 04:14 AM

Yesterday when I saw your picture, I honestly said to myself what beautiful white teeth you had!! I am so happy for you!!
