I think most of us agree that air, water, food, and shelter are necessities.
Just think of the changes in the past 100 (even 10) years of what we think we "can't live without" Of the "modern conveniences" - which would be the easiest for you to "get along without"? |

Oh, whoops, GOSH!!! I am dying my hair, the color must be frying my eyes out. No, that would be a new thread, what I cant live with out!
|
Television, since we don't watch it anyway!
|
Cell Phones. !!!!!!!! I think they are annoying when you are shopping, 2 the movies, in theDr's. Office and having dinner. I just don't understand why people can't wait till they are done with things and then talk on them. I don't care to hear about Uncle Bob being arrested for a DUI when my child is out on the roads

Does Starbucks coffee count ?

Land line phone - don't have one now!
|
Yeah -- cell phones....LOL

My land line has been gone for 2 years. I like the satallite tv, but got rid of the movie channels. Don't own an electric can opener. I have not turned on AC yet, but will this weekend I am sure. (It is super steamy). I guess I could give up ebay, as soon as my "new" old sewing machine comes next week.

those automated answering systems that so many businesses use
Segways cell phones GPS navigation systems dishwashers (I know this one will make me unpopular) cable TV (and then we'd all have decent reception for network TV again) |

Dishwasher for sure. I have one and haven't used it in 3 years. Do mine by hand. Even when I have company, I usually do the dishes while I am cooking and it only takes about 5-10 minutes to clean up after. No waiting for the dishwasher to get done.
Also fax machine. Don't have one! Time Warner cable. We are 2 blocks away from their headquarters and it is down at least once a day. Let alone the phone and internet. I logged my calls and made over 80 complaints last year, went through 4 DVR's, their service is terrible. If my husband didn't want the sports channel, it would be out of here! |
Only the ones I get along without now---Ipod, cell phone that does everything but laundry (but I do like my bare-bones cell), big screen tv, dishwasher, electric can opener, all the electronic gadgetry, and the blues--blue tooth, blue ray, blue man band, etc.
|
I could live without my cell phone!! Rarely use it :D
|
Cell phone. I do not wish to be on call 24/7.

I could get along without my clothes dryer. Did it from last Spring until it was too cold to hang them out. Hubby finally put his foot down and we went and bought a new dryer. His dark blue police uniforms were turning purple from the sun. I must admit my t shirts hand nicer if they have not been flung over a clothes line most of the morning.
My dishwasher has been used about 4 times in the last 7 years, would rather have the sotrage space. Guess I could put fabric in there! I don't use the garbage disposal, all that stuff goes into the garden and gets tilled down. |
Very interesting topic....I think I could do without a dishwasher and landline phone. I often think about how technology has changed over the past 30 years...my mom, a brother and my grandfather have all been gone about that long. I sometimes wonder how amazed they would be if they could see all the changes in just that short amount of time. My 2 brothers farmed together...my deceased brother would be amazed at the GPS technology and auto-steer on the combine and I know my mom (who loved to sew) would be amazed at the embroidery machines! I would love to be able to share with them!

No GPS system in my truck, I just drive around looking like an idiot until I find where I need to go! lol No voice mail on my land line, if a call is that important, they will call back, and if they are lucky I might even answer! lol No self cleaning oven, the key to not having to clean the oven is not to use it! lol
Could live without internet if I had to, satellite television, I only listen to the music channels mostly anyways, and that is just so there is some noise, and if someone sees me talking to myself, they think I'm singing along! lol :) |

I would be lost without my iPhone, internet and TV. I love technology! I have a quiet dishwasher and love to bake. I'm always going somewhere, so a GPS is very helpful.
Tiptoeing out of this thread because I can't think of something I would like to live without ... |

No GPS---- Don't like being told make a U turn  and gets nasty if you don't do it  * Two years ago on vacation, third in a line of vacationers, front car had the GPS. We left N.C. to come to Il. I said, "We're going NE we need to be going W." (My Jeep has that little thing by the roof that indicates which way you're going) After the third time of me saying it in an hour the woman in the passenger seat of my car (her two daughters had the gps) got really nasty about it so I kept my mouth shut until I couldn't stand it anymore and yelled, "WASHINGTON D.C!!! WHAT ARE WE DOING IN WASHINGTON, D.C.??????" These new fangled contraptions are only as good as the people operating them. Give me an old fashioned map anytime. |
