I recently cooked a pork roast in my crock pot using BBQ sauce. Well, I must have let it cook too long because the bbq sauce is now part of the bottom of the crock pot. I don't know how to get it to come clean. I have soaked it for days, I have chipped at it with a butter knife, I have boiled it, nothing is removing it. Do any of you have a suggesting for removing the baked on bbq sauce?

Glassquilt 07-22-2011 07:22 AM

Since it seems to be ruined, I'd fill it with water, cover it, put it in a corner of the garage and forget about it. I'd check it again come September or October. If it softens I'd finish cleaning it and be happy to have a 2nd pot, because by then I would have replaced it.

mochasue 07-22-2011 07:24 AM

hahahahaha! That's what I've been thinking!

nativetexan 07-22-2011 07:24 AM

i cleaned burnt food off my stainless steel skillet by soaking with CLR. worked like a charm. you might try that.
some say baking soda works though.

qbquilts 07-22-2011 07:26 AM

I use the scrap pads that come with my pampered chef stoneware. I've seen similar scraping pads in Walmart or Meijer. Here are the pampered chef ones for reference: http://www.pamperedchef.com/ordering...&outletSubCat=

They are designed to scrap the food off the stoneware since you're not supposed to use soap in stoneware. I've used them on other bakeware, pots & pans, and even my iron skillet.

Vicki W 07-22-2011 07:26 AM

I might put water with baking soda in the crock pot and turn it on over night. This should soften the cooked on material.

scrappy happy 07-22-2011 07:29 AM

try putting vinegar in it and let it cook.

SewSydney 07-22-2011 07:33 AM

Leave it out in the sun for a few days, I've had success doing that, it seems to dry it out and the gunk lifts off. Good luck, hope you don't have to trash it!!

Up North 07-22-2011 07:33 AM

I would try soaking it with dishwasher soap.

Conniebury 07-22-2011 07:53 AM

Then once you get it clean, use the crock pot lining bags, you can find them by ziploc storage bags. They are sooo worth it!

ssgramma 07-22-2011 07:58 AM

Dawn Power Disolver - best stuff I've ever used!

emerald46 07-22-2011 07:59 AM

Cover the burnt area completely with tomatoe sauce...let sit for however long necessary. It is amazing what tomatoe sauce can clean up! Good luck.

carslo 07-22-2011 08:01 AM

Try a few fresh dryer sheets and leave it a day or too. They work amazingly for me.

Good luck

Ramona Byrd 07-22-2011 08:01 AM

I've heard some folks use water and a couple of dryer sheets and let it sit for a day or so.

Put a couple of dyer sheets in it, fill it with hot water. Leave it over night, in the morning it will wash right off. I do it all the time, it works great on dishes you cook in in the oven to.
Hey, I'm all for no unneccessiary scrubbing!!!

mochasue 07-22-2011 09:21 AM

Nover heard of dryer sheets! Gonna give it a try! Amazing how people find things out! I will let you know. If that doesn't work I will try all of the above! I just have to give the dryer sheets a try because it sounds so odd! Thanks everyone!

What I did when I burned baked beans in mine. It worked for me.

lalaland 07-22-2011 09:42 AM

I soak my burnt stuff in vinegar overnight. Sometimes I have to clean what I can and soak a second time, but it always works.

bakermom 07-22-2011 09:55 AM

Dawn Power Disolver - amazing what it will remove.

mmdquilts 07-22-2011 09:59 AM

Get denture tablets. I would use 2 and fill the crock pot with hot water and let it bubble away.

lovestosew 07-22-2011 10:21 AM

Water and salt and just let it cook. I don't cook much, DH does about 95%, but when I do, I found that this really works.

I agree with this. I cleaned burned on grease from my cooktop with straight vinegar and it worked where nothing else I bought from the store did.

TonnieLoree 07-22-2011 12:05 PM

Oven cleaner?

auntmag 07-22-2011 12:22 PM

I have used Oxyclean and hot water with good results.

Sallyflymi 07-22-2011 12:56 PM

Get the cascade out and put some in the pot and simmer all night. Should be clean by morning.

mcdaniel023 07-22-2011 01:18 PM

I have put dawn in mine and turned it on high and let it cook for the day or overnight. It loosened everything up.

My dad used to collect antique bottles & used denture tablets to clean the insides. I've used them too with good results!

mom-6 07-22-2011 04:04 PM

You can also try oven cleaner.

IrelandDragonQuilting 07-22-2011 04:20 PM

Well I have heard that coke cola works, if you let it sit, it eats through a metal coffee can, so it should eat through cooked on food Sorry to hear that happened.

wanda lou 07-22-2011 07:15 PM

try an sos pad.

Tropical 07-23-2011 03:03 AM

Try using white vinegar and baking soda. Sprinkle the baking soda all around and then squirt around some vinegar. Use just enough to cover the bbq sauce. Cover the top of the pot with foil and let it soak for a several hours possibly overnight. I do this all of the time and it works great for me even on my pots and pans. Usually after soaking, all I have to do is wipe it out with paper towels and then wash as usual. Hope it works for you. :)

Tropical 07-23-2011 03:05 AM

I posted once but wanted to add that using the crock pot liner bags make it all so much easier. I love them.

Fill it with the boiling water, add automatic dish washer soap and soak overnight. Cover it to keep the water hot longer.

I've cleaned "burnt" pots by filling the pot with water and adding CREAM OF TARTAR. I find it in the seasonings section of the store. Perhaps you could set your pot of high and run it for a day and see what happens.

jaciqltznok 07-23-2011 05:37 AM

fill with vinegar or water and baking soda and put it in the oven on 400 for about two hours...then turn the oven off and leave the pot sit over night!

fuzzymom 07-23-2011 05:42 AM

Why not try cream of tartar and water, turn pot on low for a couple of hours. That is what I used when something sticks to my pans.
Good luck.
