I read with interest the topic on naming your machine(s). I just got a new car yesterday with a GPS in in and that lady giving directions needs a name! It's a silver Kia Sportage and the inside of the front doors is orange and the seats have orange stitching! Not what I thought I would be coming home with but she is fun to drive and such a happy color. She gets much better gas milage that I needed since I live out in the country. Any suggestions from any of you creative folks?

I think it sounds like a fun car!!! My GPS is named Betty. I don't know why, it was just the name that came to mind the first time I heard her!

Chris Little 09-04-2011 06:02 AM

scowlkat 09-04-2011 06:39 AM

Kooklabell 09-04-2011 06:45 AM

My GPS came with a man voice and a woman voice. The guide called them Amy and Jason. So Amy is my new best friend, although she is NOT always right!!!!

Emma, good one! That would be appropriate for me...
I thought of Lady Marmalade, too long?

Grannymom 09-04-2011 07:00 AM

yea, well, we call the gps "the b%$*h" because 'she' always wants to argue with us.... 'make a legal u-turn', or 'she' wants us to use dirt roads, or the dreaded 'recalculating'...

Dont' ever just depend on a gps - always keep a map handy just in case LOL

caquiltingdeb 09-04-2011 07:02 AM

We call ours Dora, after spending time with 5 year old niece and seeing Dora the Explorer a million times it seemed appropriate.

We call ours "Lola" from the Robin Williams movie RV.

We had just seen the movie when we got our Goldwing (that has the GPS built in)and the voice was the same. We cracked up. What Lola wants, Lola doesn't always get.

We have also noticed that Lola likes to take us through some "unsavory" neighborhoods at times...think she is laughing the whole time too.

With a Silver and orange combo...how about "Flame" or "Sassy" (you'll find she'll burn you or get smart pants with you)

blueangel 09-04-2011 08:16 AM

I like the name Sophia.

Lacelady 09-04-2011 08:20 AM

Onebyone 09-04-2011 09:47 AM

Mine is from On Star with turn by turn directions. One good thing, I never get RECALCULATING over and over. LOL

Ramona Byrd 09-04-2011 10:03 AM

Gypsy...since she's always traveling...and checking her magic seeing all Crystal Ball so she can tell YOU where to go...

GYPSY

annyroony2 09-04-2011 10:11 AM

my gps is named "gracie". that was a nickname some one had given my mother years ago. when mom and dad went on trips she always had the map in her lap and she was a great navigator . . . hence "gracie"

taylorsgmom 09-05-2011 04:20 AM

My GPS is named Ginger. I figure she will keep me from getting lost on my three hour tours.(Gilligan's Island)

My quilting friend's Onstar is named Bob after Bob Denver from Gilligan's.

fmmcbride 09-05-2011 04:22 AM

My Garmin uses the male voice and I call him "Jack-Jack", the baby in The Incredibles.

Sharoni 09-05-2011 04:39 AM

We call ours Penelope. She seems somewhat prissy and has an authoritative voice. My husband is having an emotional attachment to her and has actually threatened to run away with her!

Yooper32 09-05-2011 04:41 AM

My GPS is Arlene Maki, 'cause she pronounces some words just like my best ol' friend who is Finnish. I miss my old friend.

cpre1031 09-05-2011 04:42 AM

Mine is named Greta....Greta Garmon!

jitkaau 09-05-2011 05:01 AM

LOL. I always think my GPS sounds so disgusted with me everytime she says "RECALCULATING."

tanderbear 09-05-2011 05:40 AM

I was raised in a strict home, and I call my GPS "Ma'M". She sounds so proper, when she tells me to turn my immediate response is Yes, Ma'm. I had it on a male voice, and was responding "yes, sir"...so changed it back to female and just call her ma'm. Manners are so stuck in my head it just seemed normal.

susanwilley 09-05-2011 05:41 AM

I call mine "Dora the Explorer" I got that from my sister in law.

OmaForFour 09-05-2011 05:54 AM

How about Matilda - like in "you go a-waltzing Matilda with me".
