I added a filter for private messages to help locate all messages from/to a specific user.

When reading a PM, you'll find two new links next to the user id of the person with whom you are corresponding: "all from" and "all to". Clicking on them will show you a list of PMs you received from and sent to that person respectively.

Please let me know if something isn't working as expected.

Nope. It only lists the messages actually present in the inbox and sent box. So if you delete them, then they are gone.
