Does anybody have the new Kindle called the Fire? If so how do you like it and is it worth the money?

I don't think they go on sale until November 15th...I would like to have more information on them also....
|
I'm watching this thread because I want one too.
|
They are not available until the November 15th. :(
I have ordered mine and am on the waiting list and should have it in my hands on November 17th. I have a kindle now and love it, but I really would like the color. I have 3G and the Kindle Fire will not have it. This means I will need to be at a WiFi hotspot to access the web or order from Amazon. Just like now, all your data will be housed at Amazon. The present kindle has the E-Ink which isn't affected by glare. The fire will not have this. I do not know if you have a limited storage alotment. I will have to check into that. Other than the price, those are the negatives that I come up with now. I've promised my brother my kindle with my kindle fire comes and I think I might have done this prematurely because I will not have anything to fall back on, if the kindle fire is a disapointment. |
I have ordered one also. Can't wait to try it out.

I just got DD a Nook Color for Christmas and can't wait to give it to her. |
Am I the only one not interested in having a Kindle? Simply because I love to
hold a book, read ... and add it to my "library". My motto: A book worth reading is a book worth buying. |

If I wish to read it again, I know just where to get it. I don't care to have a kindle, but I do like listening to audio books while quilting. Jean |
I ordered the Kindle Fire. It's not a tablet like the Ipad but a media device. You can read, watch movies, browse the web, check email if in a wireless internet area. No camera or other computer programs, no USB ports and not 3G. It's a bells and whistles E Reader. It cost Amazon $150 to make each one. Amazon intent is to make profits from the book/movie purchases. Like printers are sold with little profit but the ink will be the profit.

Forgot to say the Ipod Touch will do most of what the Kindle Fire will. All the iphone apps can be used on the Itouch and you can download Kindle books on it and go online if in a wireless area. The Itouch is very small screen and cost more then the Kindle Fire but less then the IPad. It's what I'm using now until my Kindle Fire gets here. We have an IPad but I use my ITouch more, it's easier to put in my pocket or purse when I go anywhere. DH and I like all the new technology, it's amazing to us! what we once only read about in science fiction is actually here for us to use.

I pre-ordered one, too.
I've had the Kindle 2 and traded it in on an iPad. I love gadgets and want to check out the Kindle Fire. Depending on how it works, I'll keep it as it is smaller than the iPad and easier to tuck in my purse or give it to my son. I'm an avid reader and always have at least one book going. With an e-reader of any sort, I can take my whole library with me and never have to worry about having an extra book on the plane or finishing one book without another at hand. |
When we travel a couple of times a year, I got really tired of carting books around. I downloaded a book to my iphone and I am hooked on using it as a bookreader. I have to figure out how to get it to work with libary books and audio books from the library.

Yes, there are two libaries in our county that purchased Overdrive. I want to go get a card to download audio books. The library that I retired from does not have it. |
You can use the MEL library system. It is a database the libraries holdings in MI.

This is the MEL system. Each library system has to purchase it for their patrons. Then you have to have a resident card from that library to use it. I do not live in those libraries service area, but because I am a county resident, I can get a resident card. Just need to get to that library and sign up in person. Then it will all be over the internet.

The only books I buy are books that I will use over and over again. (how to books, pattern books etc.) I read fiction once and I'm done. The kindle is wonderful if you always like to have a book with you. It fits in your purse. I order free books and delete them when I'm done. If you think you want to re-read a book just don't delete it. I'm not sure how many books you can download but I think it's in the 1000's.
|
I too, ordered one.....I was excited until I read your thread. I guess it is a poor man's IPad. Can you put apps on it?
|
By no means the only one. I belong to a book group and of the 40 or so members only 4 or 5 are interested in any sort of e-book. I actually have a Sony Reader which I use often and really like but I still love my books.
|
If you have a Kindle, can you trade it in for a Kindle Fire?
|
I too, use my Ipod more than my Ipad. But I love the Ipad for traveling with the 3G. I have the NOOK and love it for reading as I don't want any more books around, don't want to wait for a library copy that I need for my book club. I probably wouldn't have the NOOK but I got it before my Ipad. I love my electronics!
|
I have pre-ordered one after checking with my son who has computer experience. He said it appears to be just like the IPad but much less expensive. I plan to use it in my quilting room to watch video's on YouTube. They are shipping them out on November 15.

I love Melcat http://elibrary.mel.org/ You can also search for any book in the state of Michigan and it will be delivered to your library (non digital copies of books) I have done this many times Its a great tool. Someday I hope to have a reader. How many of you with Ipad type readers use them as a reading device? Is it just as easy to download? I'm leaning towards those that have the keyboard docking stations. |
I love books too but I enjoy my Kindle. I can carry it with me easily and the weight is wonderful. Love "big" books but they hurt my hands and wrists anymore, especially when reading in bed. I just bought my husband one because the book he's currently reading was hurting his hands too so we downloaded it to his kindle and he's enjoying it again. But I still read books too!

did you know you can download kindle for pc for free and read books on your computer? if you have a lap top you can take it with you, not quite as handy as taking a small kindle but you can save a few books. My BIL told us about it, and you can share books with other folks.

Here is the link to all the info about the Kindle Fire. Page down to see a chart comparing it to other Kindles feature by feature which is good for showing exactly what features it has. It looks to me like it does have a USB. I wish it had 3G. My daughter said her and my son are getting it for for Christmas.

I certainly wouldn't replace my current kindle with a Fire. I'd buy the Ipad first. The current kindle is way better for those with vision issues with its nonglare e-ink interface which the new Fire will not have.

Would love to have a Kindle or Nook but honestly; does it have to be so complicated? Why can't they make one model and let it be. I know I am whining but I am tired of all the new upgraded stuff that comes out just before Christmas. This includes cell phones, I phones, Wii, video games and players and so on. Enough already! My wallet can't take it anymore.
Thank you all for listening to me rant  |
Have a kindle , love it have read more since purchasing the kindle. Take it with me everywhere I go. I have deminishing eye sight and can enlarge the print. Don't dare leave home without it. hehe. I nearly feel the same connection to my sewing machine. Don't dare leave home without it.

have a Kindle less than a year old with the case, light and extended 2 year warranty if you are interested for $100. [email protected]

I have the Kindle 3G and WiFi - and I love it, made a little pouch for it out of felt and it goes everywhere with me.
Trade-ins? No, I read on the Amazon site that they are not going to be doing trade-ins on it. I think I am going to take a wait and see - it sounds enticing but it seems like with all the bells and whistles that it could spend a lot of time on the charger, and I have my laptop for the internet, movies and You-Tube stuff. Before I got the Kindle, I downloaded that free app for the PC - so I have both for books. In using the library, I have found that pretty good - I am on my third book. I did have to put holds on the books but the waiting time hasn't been too bad - - - except for "The Help" - I am number 560 on a list that exceeds 600 - - - I may just break down and buy that one! :-) Marysewfun Lastly, |

I'll wait for the 3G.

I know nothing about the Kindle You sparked my interest when you said auido books. Can you listen to them on the Kindle? I bought a IPOD but for some reason I can't get the audio books to work.
