I do not like to travel, either. Always afraid I won't like strange food and that I'd starve to death. LOL

ann clare 06-21-2010 03:39 PM

Not strange. We are all different. Some are home birds, others are travellers. Each to his own.

granniebj 06-21-2010 04:01 PM

If I had the money I would like to travel...just here in the U.S and short periods of time. Hubby was a long hauler (truck driver) and not interested.

mimistutz 06-22-2010 06:54 AM

We like to travel a lot, but also are ok being home. We have camped in 24 states and would like to camp in all. We like to see all the differences and similarities in different parts of the country.
On the other hand we also like to be home and near family. My DH was away for 2 weeks visiting DS and except for work, I didn't leave the house or even turn on the TV except for 1 time and I was totally fine..
I will say, I'm not totally happy with my house and with the previous comments about the parents who moved from the mobil home, I wonder if that is also part of the reason we like to travel. Maybe the reason we like what we like really doesn't matter. After all believe it or not, some people don't like to quilt.

What ever - I agree, what ever makes you happiest is OK.

I don't think it's strange. If I haven't seen it by the time I retire, I guess I don't have to.

MillieH 06-22-2010 11:47 AM

We just bought a very nice travel trailer, and I'm already wondering why. What were we thinking?

waquilter 06-22-2010 12:06 PM

Be it ever so humble, there is no place like home!!

Pamela Artman 06-22-2010 12:18 PM

It's great if you and hubby both like staying at home... or if you and hubby both like traveling! With us, I love to travel and I'm always ready to go anywhere and my hubby has no interest. There's been a couple times when he indulged me (our honeymoon for one) and a trip to Virginia Beach a couple years ago. But usually, he refuses to go anywhere except to visit his kids and grandkids. I'm lucky I guess, that he doesn't care if I go without him, so I travel all over with my girlfriends. I want to go on a cruise with him though, but he has no interest. He just likes to camp.

I'm 52 and my husband is 54. I've been a SAHM since our first was born and he'll retire in his early 60's. Even now we don't really travel unless there's a reason, seems we can't go anywhere unless there's a good reason. The last few years it's been to see our son who's in the Navy. When he had to take an 8 wk course at Pearl Harbor, that was the reason we needed to go there, we couldn't just go there for us! A couple of years ago him graduating from Nuclear school was the reason we visited Charleston. Maybe someday he'll have to be in Australia? We sort of like just being 'here.' We've been here since we got married almost 30 years ago, and I don't envision us moving

waquilter...I hope you won a great prize for catching that fish in your avatar. Thanks for showing it!

I did lots of going when I was younger and hubby being in the army when he was young and traveled all over Europe etc. I think we had enough.

I find that retired people are always going on a trip somewhere and I thought we were strange lol...we just love to be home because for one..there is nothing I would much rather do than quilt or paint or knit or make a doll..that is the ultimate vacation for me lol....and hubby is just happy watching his races and games and working in the yard and doing housework.

We do go visit friends and family but that is it.

Don't let what other people do make you feel you should be doing the same thing or something different. Just be happy & don't waste time second guessing yourself.

I would rather be home! We spent 20 yrs in the service so we got to see some wonderful places. My DH wanted to travel back east this summer - I just couldn't go, at least this year. I don't have the patience for air travel and sitting for long hrs on end in a car really hurts the body! Even going between our home and our camping property is more than I care to do. Love it when I get there - but would rather stay at home!

PJO 06-22-2010 07:57 PM

I love to go on road trips and long vacations - just as long as I can sleep in my own bed, in my own bedroom, in my own home, in Kansas, every night!!! Love to Travel!!!!

We didn't travel at all unless we could drive there when we were young because of cost. What I consider our first real vacation wasn't until we were married 10 yrs. and 2 kids later. Then later my inlaws bought a place in Florida and that became our only destination. I'm still waiting to travel to other places, like Europe. We will get there someday. Can't seem to get those kids (29 & almost 28) married off.

After working all those years, I'm happy to be at home. There is plenty here to keep me busy. I hate shopping, it wears me out. After an hours drive I can barely walk when I get out of the vehicle. So travel is not something I really care for. We shop once a month to stock up on everything we can. Of course we always seem to run out of milk, bread and eggs. Now DD has chickens and I've been getting fresh eggs from her, yea!

Truly though, the world is so crazy I just prefer to stay at home in my safe zone.

We like simple trips...right at this moment we are at the Berkshires in Mass. ...dh is off golfing and I am relaxing here at the condo..we have a timeshare and exchange to go various places but not into BIG trips..we like simple get aways and mostly enjoy it when our children and their families can join us...going to Williamsburg in Sept. and our son and dil and our grand will join us there..most of the time we are content being home..I have lots of friends I enjoy and my grands and all ..

mjsylvstr 06-24-2010 03:38 AM

We like to do both...

When home there is no place like it..but to travel, that's so interesting and enjoyable........but then it's home and back in one's own bed.

As I mentioned before, there's no place like home !!!!!

We do a cruise each year, sometimes 4 day and then maybe a 7 day. Hubby really enjoys just the pleasure of sailing. We do not do the island hopping.... just the relaxation.

kd124 06-25-2010 10:17 PM

Nothing strange about that at all.

Aurora 06-29-2010 03:08 AM

Heel CLICK! There is no place like home!

How do you go on long vacations and sleep in your own bed? Do you take it with you? ;)

CanadianLoon 06-29-2010 04:05 AM

I've always said, 'give me two hours and I'm ready to go anywhere'

MillieH 06-29-2010 07:01 AM

maryse, somebody needs to be using it! However, my son and DIL are expecting twin boys any day now--and it looks like both are going to weigh in at 7 lbs. or over, according to the dr. I took my DIL to her OB appt. yesterday (she can't reach the steering wheel and pedals to drive). She's only 4'11" and all belly right now. Anyway, they are happy we bought the camper since they won't be doing much flying off to Hawaii or wherever on vacations once the boys arrive. Camping looks like a great way for them to vacation.

Granny B 06-30-2010 10:53 AM

I spent 31 years in retail and we traveled to market six or seven times a year. Now I don't even think of going anywhere far from home unless it's really, really important. There's nothing like your own bed, believe me.
